  • Review of the Matrix M2 Archery target
    ** I talked to the Matrix folks about the field tips they recommend. They're asking people to use the blunt tips, not the bulbous ones. I'd edit the video, but i don't know how once it's published!**

    Great video. I'm a recurve shooter so I know that makes a difference. I also see that someone else has recomended a Big Boy Target. I've been shooting one of theirs for about a year and it holds up great. They do make one that will hold up to broadheads, just not mine. Anyway. Check out the Big Boy, you might like it also.

    Hey Brandon, I ordered 2 of the new SEVR 21" target that came out in January. I like a few features that they instilled into it that the Matrix & Rhinehart missed. I will keep u updated this spring once the weather warms up here in MN.

    It’s been a while but for field tips, the Bulldog bag targets are the easiest to pull arrows out of (I pulled 6 or 7 out all at once while filming with the other hand), and they have a lifetime replacement warranty on the faces when they get shot up. They have a bunch of different sizes and they free stand just fine.

    Hey, just a thought to help when you flip the cells, use spray foam insulation to fill in the back of the cavity to help the second side last longer.
    In the 90s when I was a kid, our first deer target was made by my dad, digging out the shape in our sandbox, a few cans of spray foam insulation, a core of a few sheets of 1" foam board,. 1x1 boards in the legs. Then all wrapped with brown burlap. Thing lasted for years, and could be patched up anytime it was getting shot out with a few $ can of spray foam.

    Great review about the only thing you missed was when talking about the price vs a lot cheaper block is that once you shoot the block out it's done you have to buy whole new block or whole new Reinhardt so you have to spend another 100 to 150. With matrix especially if your a good aim and majority of your shots hit just one module. All you have to do is buy one module which is 40 bucks so in the long run you do save money going with a the matrix over other brands.

I had some major issues with your 5 bow 2 party shoot out and can’t see the demise if sight tapes, I want this target[shit I shit a bbq 2 times and my shed 3 times tuning a new bow, so metal buckles I can cope with as the vaps were unscathed ...however sending a container of foam to Australia tends to restrict what we get[or jack up the price in a major way]

    Target Manufacturers are never gonna make a truly indestructible target. There's a pretty strong correlation between price and durability, the longer a target lasts the more expensive it is. They could probably make a target that would last forever now, but they would put themselves out of business. That's just how it is. Good video btw

I also have a block that I throw in my truck and carry hunting with me in case I need to shoot where I park before or after hunting . It’s only been shot maybe a couple hundred times and it’s honestly in bad shape for as little as it’s been shot. The holes don’t heal, one you shout a spot is ruint forever .

    Look into a “Blob” target. These are by far the toughest and longest lasting targets that I have ever owned. They are expensive but not $245. The only down side to them is they will sand the tips of your arrow down. I do not shoot my 3-d arrows into them! I have had one for over 4 years and still use what’s left of it to broad head tune my bows.

      I actually bought an M1 as well for a different spot. I think it's worth it. With the more bulbous tips they stop great, reasonable pull and then the ability to always shoot the middle is awesome. I hate wallowing out the middle of a target and being forced to shoot corners. I like to back up and shoot from 60+ and shooting at the corners just sucks...

Rinehearts heal up. You have to shoot the same spots over and over to wear it out. I’ve had the same one in my yard in the sun for 7 years . The core is wore out , but for the most part it’s in good shape .

    I loved the Matrix target idea but my complaint with the first one was that it was cheaper to just buy a new target than if you were to wait and replace all the cells when you get down to the last one. I mean I could literally blow out one cell front and back in less than a week so replacing one at a time every week would get insane expensive.

    There is such a thing as healing rubber/ plastic, the only issue with that material is that it's super expensive and the other issue is thst it has to be maintained in perfect conditions, such as being kept indoors. I've had (still have) many ideas for the archery industry, such as a self healing target, but to make any idea a reality is about five thousand dollar minimum for the cost of a patent lawyer and that doesn't even guarantee your newly discovered idea from already being in the hands and shelved by big corporations like Hoyt. I unfortunately had to find all this out the hard way and after paying up front and yes there are loopholes but it's a two year long process and being a father to eight children, I dont exactly have five to seven thousand dollars laying around.

    • @brandonmcdonald6121
      @brandonmcdonald6121  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you came up with a Target that is as awesome as it sounds like it could be I guarantee you could get a partner involved that could handle the business side of everything including the finances. The hardest part is coming up with the target that's better than the Matrix

    • @tylerdfoust6071
      @tylerdfoust6071 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The traditional hunting industry is extremely competitive and it would be an amazing challenge to get an opportunity to compete with great design ideas such as the matrix target, but in the same token it's not such a bad idea to improve and innovate something new especially having great motivation for something I'm greatly passionate for. If I had investor's for every prototype and or idea of mine, it would definitely help bring this industry closer into a new era, I dont mean to brag, or sound arrogant it's just something inside that tells me that this is going to be a game changer. I honestly wish that my ideas were patented alredy so I could actually make sense of what the hell I'm saying, rather than just seeming like I'm blowing smoke to anyone who reads this. I'm one of those crazy people who wakes up in the middle of the night with an idea and has a note pad under my pillow to right it down and then try to make it with what little technology I have on hand. This is why I like your videos so much, it inspires me to improve my ideas based on your honest opinions of what you would like to be improved. Great work, you deserve that high paying TH-cam income.

      To the dumbass who just soiled my greatest achievement on this planet with such ignorant moccary: Its funny that you mentioned investment because everything we invest our hard earned money in is not for stuff, its to leave a legacy of all the things we've learned and to keep it alive by procreation raising children, and making sure that we keep our everlasting life through them and their future. The Bible in fact talks about being fruitful and from where I stand your wasting your money by not simply pulling out or being faithful to one person that has you paranoid of catching an STD. And sure you can always get condoms for free, but obviously you're not that kind of guy are you... In fact, I'm willing to bet that with such a snarkey, unevolved comment like that, that you're an egocentric dickhead that buys the top shelf Trojan magnums, flavored like little Wayne's lolly pop, ribbed and textured so that way to make your girlfriend feel more reassured that you even have penis that she can feel, and if that wasn't enough im sure they vibrate too for redundancy. The only "investment" you are tuely making is a false sense of security by looking BADASS in front of your guy friends (because we all know that your not fooling the girls you piddle around with so of course its true that you buy condoms for guys, sad) and showing that you have the attention span of chimp and you nevertheless really considered to think about the words that came from your hereditary pre-ejackutated tendencies that triggered a habitual reaction into your neurological functions between your frontal and temporal lobes. You should have listened to mother, or just simply watched the Disney movie Bambi, just like the other kids and if you actually had paid attention you would know that they explain if you don't have anything nice to say, than shut the fuck up. Now that I am thinking about why your such an ass I now feel a little bit sorry for saying anything myself, nah not really, its really more like petty for the well-being of your overall mental health, I am curious however because it could be an early warning sign of a tumor near your hypothalamus. Question; do you experience the smell of rotting eggs at random moments followed by an unexplainable reason why you like that smell? You should seriously consider redirecting your priorities and "invest" in getting that checked. Thank you for your extremely late, stupidly disruptive and very millennial comment. Thanks for taking the time in reading this far, you may now stop here and go about your day.
      To Brandon McDonald, I am sorry for any excitement that this may stir up, keep up the great work, your latest video was fantastic and well worth the wait. Thanks for all that you do.

    I know why you say this about curing the arrow hole, but they want to sell more than one target stopper to you. If they would do what you ask, you will only buy one in your lifetime.

    Nothing beats a good bale of straw !! The baler compresses the hay or straw so nothing goes through and you can let them outside for months with any degradation. When it's time to get a new one or two you spread the old one on the lawn or garden!! Why would anyone spend 250.00 for a target ????

      Not a chance. I’ve tried bales and punch clean through them. The cost of arrows will far exceed the cost of the M2 or even the M1 in no time. I’ll stick to the Matrix

      Bales are worth there weight in gold for 20 to 50 pound bows unfortunately for stronger bows you need a matrix style , and I do love that you can change them that is great idea

    Was just looking at their website to see if they have changed their prices on the replacement cores lol nope. $39.95 to replace one for the M2 and $59.95 to replace one on the original target. Absolutely ridiculous. $39.95X9 is $359.95 😂🤣😂🤣 the whole target is $250....... Not worth the money.

    • @brandonmcdonald6121
      @brandonmcdonald6121  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wont be buying the replacements either but based on the amount of my shooting and the wear of the target it should last 3 years if it stays consistent with my use so far. I was wearing out a Block target every single summer. So cost wise it makes more sense for me to replace the entire target every few years. This is the biggest benefit, after I blow through the center of a block target, Im shooting at 70 yards at the corners of the target, which inevitably ends up with more full target misses. The rotation is a big deal. Some of my reviews Ive changed my mind on, but not this one. Im ordering an M1 at some point and paying full price.
