Good tip for anyone on a tight budget . Have a look for the rubber foam floor tiles with like jigsaw 🧩 shaped edges get four and zip tie them together on all four corners they make brilliant targets am using a 40# longbow at 20 yards perfect bought these February this year and am only now swapping the front piece and adding a new one will definitely be buying more a have a zombie head and hare 3 d targets but the nearly £100 each crazy money compared to £20 for about 2xdozen floor tiles hope this helps someone 👍😉 Liam 🇬🇧
I would love for you to make a video about shooting out of a treestand, i know you said you hunt on the ground mostly. For me practicing all summer building my confidence getting in a treestand was a learning curve for sure. I think i might need a clicker, a few times i over drew my bow.
I put the Real Wild Big Shot targets on our practice range and they took took all the punishment 240 archers could dish out over a week and still look great. I have their bear and shoot hundreds of arrows a week without phasing it. They are inexpensive and very durable.
Back yard? Glue backed carpet 2'X12' (vary measurements) tied with 550 cord rolls into a nice animal size torso. Takes 1000s of arrows from my 50# recurve. Inexpensive, easy to pull and transport, hang from a limb of lay on ground, weather resistant, Re-roll starting with the used outside end to refresh 'torso' for several more 1000s of arrows. Rubber backed carpet will "black stain" arrow from friction/heat.
Compressed bale of hay ! Tractor supply / ag. Store etc., or online for 20$ & it stops a 370 crossbow no problem ! Comes wrapped in plastic w/ tote handle ... spray paint bullseye 🎯 on it and have at it ! Cheap & durable ...
Last week I bought a NASP bullseye target (32" x 32" with yellow dot in the center) from cbleaas for 40 bucks. I've only been shooting for a month. It's better than the bale of hay I was using. Really love the "thwack" sound when the arrow hits. I'm using a 20# take down recurve, and my 65 yr old shoulder hurts. When I get to where i consistently hit the center, and my shoulder is better, I'll get a 3D deer target. Taking a deer with my dad's 43# bow is on my bucket list! If you're pretty good at hitting stuff, they have a smaller, cheaper target you could try. It's worth it just for the sound it makes when you hit it!
Awesome info Clay. Just got your book as well. Great read so far. I ordered a draw knife and will start off by making a Birch bow. I know it won't be very fast, but the wood cost me $6 so I'm not out much if it sucks :)
@@bryanmilstid4087 red oak is fairly forgivable as long as it's growth ring is chased well, and whatnot, still gotta be reasonably careful obviously lol were not carving spoons here. Lmk how it turns out, im invested bro 🤙
Hi Clay, I have a question unrelated to the video. I bought some meatheads this year and mounted them on some 11/32 diameter arrows and immediately noticed they were not straight. I understand that 23/64 is a smidge bigger, but I kind of assumed the 5 degree taper on my arrow would line it up relatively straight. Do you use a 23/64 diameter arrow? How can I solve my problem without completely buying new shafts?
I've been cutting down some honeysuckle. The wood is surprisingly strong and hard I made a little bow and some arrows. Has anyone ever tried using honeysuckle for bow wood?
I’m curious what the difference is between the pro hunter with the removable core and the medium series? The medium series is more money. Seems backwards. What am I missing? Thanks
Problem I have clay when I leave my targets out I get some kind of bird drill his way in for nest , it drives you nuts know you just gave him a 150 dollar bird house
Not sure what these targets costed 3y ago when most of these comments were made, but they’re definitely not “budget” price now. They’re either similar or in some cases more expensive that Rinehart targets now…
They've gone up about $50 since i bought mine over a year ago. I still thuni its a good value however i wish it was my Big buck was a little bit smaller! Its huge. A lot of good foam to shoot at over the years for the money. Although i wish i would have got the smaller doe one. Or the coyote. Still would last a really long time. Great target but yeah they are getting up there with the others. I love my target, love how i'll be able to replace the mid section someday. Self heals great and easy to pull arrrows. Looks very realistic too but one thing i will say is if you do get the big buck one that i have, it seems as if they give you crappy antlers for it now. The one mine has are awesome. They are thick, knobby & knarly. Mine has 2 metal long wires in each antlef that you can stick into the head & can manipulate the rack to be wide or tight. They poke into the head beautifully and stay pretty rock solid. They still give you nice looking antlers but it has that plastic tab to secure poke into the head and from my experience. Works great for about 2 months until the antler holes start getting to big and they start falling out. Not a huge deal but definitely a downgrade compafed to what we were getting before. And now they are even more money. Its almost as if that older antler was made in-house it was such a great design and now they ordering a mass produced chinese antler that every other budget 3D target uses. Thats why i would get the doe or coyote now. No antlers needed, still a great target that will easily last you 20 years.
@@lukebonagurio4503 I do really appreciate budgeting that focuses on the long term cost. I guess I'd like confirmation that the plan included shipping. Vimes' 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness.
I’m sorry but don’t you own 3rivers? Cus I was going to say, no way you will find those delta mckenzies for $300 ! No way.. Unless this is you saying your retail price for owning a shop. I shoot known pro and I do not know how you are getting those cheaper than marks 3D targets sells em for. If you have any kind of hook up please let me know I have been trying to buy multiple from your site, but they are all about full price, and I mean the smallest javelina being $420 right now! So I was just confused.. maybe you can clear that up for ..?
Mark, find a local warehouse and make friends with the foreman. Ask him to save the shrink wrap that covers palletized material, they're only going to throw it away anyhow. Then, find a friend who buys dog food in the big, synthetic bags that look like they're woven. Fill that bag up good and tight with the shrink wrap, close off the top with a piece of wire, and boom. You got a target that will last for ages. When you've shot the bag out, get another and stuff the same shrink wrap back in. I haven't bought a target in years, and I shit you not, they work. I shoot a #56 recurve and have zero trouble pulling the arrows out.
@@savage22bolt32 Thanks. I can't take credit for the idea. I saw a young man here on YT a few years ago do something similar. He built a wooden frame to pack the shrink wrap in. My idea just makes the target far more portable. You can bring it inside when you've finished shooting so it doesn't get weather damaged. You also don't have to worry about pulling arrows out of a 2x4 if one gets away from you.
Jon, thanks for sharing. Over the past decade, before I retired, I've seen so much shrink wrap get chucked in the dumpster. Now I have a use for it! Perhaps I can adapt this and make an indoor slingshot trap.
