At the ripe old age of 12, she has garnered significant training and natural artistic abilities to do an amazing job of covering this piece. And, of course, she is developing as we watch her today at 15, as ever, trying her wings with great support from family and her label. I really didn’t know what to expect when she signed, as I have no understanding of the industry. I see mentoring and patience, which my jaded mind wasn’t expecting. She gives no indication of slowing down, so the future should bring us more enjoyment.
Everything thing she sings is a 10. This one makes my eyes water every time I hear it. This one, Stay and A Million Years Ago are my fav choices. I love this girl's voice and have been a fan before the AGT performances. But I have to agree with you about the last 2 covers. Angelinas performances of Lana del Rey songs are in the upper echelon of her covers.. Tone that stops you dead in your tracks.... No comparison who sings it better, but not to diminish LDR who wrote this brilliant song ...

You mentioned the pop filter. Some complained they couldn't see her singing, almost in disbelief a child could sing so deeply. For her Whitney Houston tribute, she stands sideways towards the camera. Later home recordings she seems to abandon it completely. Very good reaction. I appreciate you're lack of exaggerated facial expressions and over the top commentary reactors have, like they are doing the ringside announcing for a wrestling match. Some are too much. 🍁

I think Lana is an outstanding artist, with a compelling voice. Angelina covers her songs beautifully, and in my opinion, sounds better than the original. And remember, you're comparing a home-produced recording to an professionally and painstakingly produced one.
Yup, I know. On the other hand home versions can have an advantage since they haven’t been produced to death(over produced) just like live versions can be better than studio versions.
When you listen to Lana’s music you have to appreciate the whole artistry - she is an exceptional lyricist who is hands on with production and makes decisions on how the music will sound. She might not have the best voice, but is very experimental and influental. I think you can not compare creating music and covering music.
Lana del Rey is not so much known for her vocal abilities, although her Style is so individual and special, hard to compare her to any other vocalist for that matter, but live she did show quiet some weaknesses. Nevertheless, as a composer she is just outstanding. Angelina we know is the more versatile vocalist, just always outstanding. Both are 2 exceptional artists.

You have to realize first that Lana has a very unique voice that is difficult to emulate. There have been other attempts to cover this song, and all have come up way short of Lana's version, mostly because they try to sound like her. Then we get Angelina's version, which for me, is far better than the original. Immediately, when I heard Angelina's version, having never heard Lana's, it was in my Top 10 of AJs performances. Once I compared it to Lana's, I was even more impressed. I still see it as one of the best things Angelina has ever done.
As far as the timing be off, that would be on purpose. Angelina knows how she wants to sing a song. She is known to her close associates as " the BOSS ". I think when she hears a song, she is singing it in her head they way she would sing it & we get to hear her gifted version of the original song.
Pavarotti vs. community opera singer. Anyone who can't hear how much AJ improves this song, even to a track, needs to seek ENT support. Danny, one of these days you'll overcome your John Legend phobia and listen to AJ's cover of "All of Me." She redeems the song.

The lower register of Angelina that she weaves into this makes it more interesting musically. The song is quite monotone on major parts, and Angelina breaks that with those beautiful, resonant lower notes and tones. Also, the texture that Angelina can turn on and off in her voice is probably unique for my experience. This one gets the Angelina treatment with texture, low and high registers, runs, and subtle vocal fry leading into and out of notes. It’s soothing, and we get introspective when Angelina sings about the good and bad in life. Yes, I watched your review of Billie Jean. You were not a fan of the song itself or what Angelina did with it. With all respect, I have a slight disagreement. It is a spectacular, inventive, courageous cover of another iconic song that Angelina turns on its head with beautiful jazz timing and her incomparable vocal flexibility, giving us music we’ve never heard before. (Music most of us love.) I think it’s a classic already.

Hi Danny, you are the first to point that out, and I totally agree that the timing sounded off. , although the rest is stunning.. I 'm a huge fan of hers.
To use a crude analogy, it's almost as though if most singer's are 6-string guitars, Angelina is a 12-string. Her voice is somehow thicker (not necessarily higher or lower but fuller) and more capable (especially when she inserts all the vocal effects at her command)!
I have got to start by mentioning that I am not one to look at singing as a competition (despite the realization that a competition is how we all first learned of Angelina😬). Having said that, I really do believe that this song is tailor made for Angelina’s beautiful voice. This is one of Angelina’s best covers IMHO. Of course she is not flawless as you have pointed out Danny, but the song is beautiful nonetheless (I suspect she would correct her timing faux pas on her second take😜). Maybe this slip up was purposely inserted for what I refer to as “the Navaho factor”. It is said that the Navajo Indians purposely inserted flaws in their hand made blankets to differentiate them from the perfectly made mass-produced counterfeits. 😳😆 In any event, this cover is sheer beauty. Excellent reaction and I always appreciate your honesty. The thing what made me admire the Billie Jean cover and If you believe was her dancing with the notes in a matter that can't be matched, just like her song, "Still holding out for you". Very few artists attain that capability and she is doing it at such a young age. She don't need them high notes, but knows how to pierce the soul with Emotion like no other! God Bless!
I agree with you, Danny. Angelina's deep and resonant low register is stunning, and her emotional delivery of the lyric hits exactly the mournful and slightly jaded note the material calls for. If I had one criticism of Angelina's technique, it would be that she seems to miss the pocket on a lot of pop material. In many pop styles, there are certain beats that must be hit precisely to deliver the authentic style. A little practice with a metronome when rehearsing songs of this type would be all Angelina needs to get the hang of it, I'm sure. And she's still better at it than Lana Del Ray; Lana's time sense is my biggest complaint about her version. What do you think?
Hmm, interesting. In this instance I think Lana’s got a good flowing sense of timing that didn’t disturb me but AJ’s did. AJ usually has great timing for the jazz covers at least and I loved her Still Holding Out For You.
Yeah, as you said, maybe it's an artistic choice with the timing. Sometimes she chooses to lag a little, sometimes she goes ahead of the beat. Whatever it is, it keeps us engaged!

First of all: I dont agree with comparing. Angelina is absolutely an artist standing out on her own! Doing covers doesnt mean to sound like the original but making it outstanding as your self. Danny, I know it's 2 years late but I think the little glitch when she says COME AND TAKE A WALK WILD SIDE is a chorus but she has no backup singers, so she is trying to fill it in herself. GREAT REACTION!
Yes, this is definitely one of Angelina’s «improved originals». She does start that higher phrase a tad early, but ends it on the beat…twice. That, and the fact that she normally has impeccable timing (yet usully backphrases) makes me think it is on purpose. As for artistic direction, that still seems to be up in the air. Her latest performanced are still very varied. That goes even for her own songs: «Million Miles» and «7th Heaven» don’t seems to have much in common except runs in the pentatonic minor (blues) scale. That may be an issue in commercial terms, but at the same time it is good to see that Republic have not put her in an artistic straight jacket. At 15, she still has lots of time…
Yeah she’ll develop more and more. Hopefully not into a run-of-the-mill pop or super singer that’s hard to differentiate from any others. What she has is unique and I hope she keeps it 👍🏻
I personally prefer the original! I quite like the cadence & monotone glamour style lana sings it in. I think it fits in perfect with the overall instrumental/ feel for the song.

I don’t think her timing hurt a thing. The songwriting was funky there. Word choice forces the accent to land different. Lana chose to deliver a hard straightened teeth gritting attack to be decisive while AJ allowed the softening and rounding of the schwa in place that you might hear in natural speech. I love her aesthetic choices. This whole song conveys the feeling beautifully.
Angelina knows Exactly what she chooses to do. She does a lot of back phrasing, and some think she's not keeping the right time. Definitely an artistic choice.
Lana is a really great singer, but sometimes a bit monotone, linear. In this case, i prefer Angelinas cover because she puts more dynamics here. Simply amazing !

This is my first time to hear the original. I am shocked at how much better Angelina is. She adds much more depth and feeling to almost everything she covers, compared to the original artist. To me, Lana sounds like a novice and Angelina the seasoned performer.

Just more proof that some people need to write some songs for her, so she can get more originals out. She can sing any genre and sound wonderful, so, it shouldn't be a problem.
This is one of my favorite's that Angelina covers. I so much prefer Angelina's version. Her voice is so rich in tone and curls. I think "high" can mean "high on life", or bigger. I love how there is actually emotion in the song with Angeline's version. Lana's voice sounds really lovely, but not a fan of the lack of emotion in the words. I believe this type of song is right up Angeline's alley and i feel she actually made her cover better than the original. Great reaction, Danny. Thank you.

I know Angelina has done covers and subtly changed the words to be more age appropriate. I just assumed she was using a different definition of the word "high". I have noticed a few songs recently that i was rather surprised that she did NOT change some words that were not child-appropriate. I do love her version of this song. That rich low tone with all the curls. There is so much beauty in it.

I like how she went early in “come and take a walk on the wild side”, it just works for me because it’s rushed and that’s the feeling I get. Like her character had switched from sad reflections on her life, to blurt out an invitation to join her in her addictions. I think that’s Angelina’s interpretation.

Wonderful song and her voice as a 10 y/o (or 30 y/o) is just magical singing this song. (Also video of her singing at the Proysen festival in 2017 with only a piano. Both are very good.)
Great reaction! Not for the opinion, which was spot on, but for checking on the original and then going back to it. Angelina usually slows down songs in her covers, but this was was sped up, as it needed to be. She also uses a karaoke backing track and that is what caused the timing to be off. I dpnt think you would hear that on a studio produced version. Also, the song you really liked was I'm Still Holding Out For You. Its in most Angelina fans Top 3, including mine. AJ does another Lana Del Rey song, Young and Beautiful that is also fantastic. Much softer than Born to Die. When you have time, cover that one please AND do it in the same format!!! Play the originals first if you dont know the song. Thats just brilliant and much different than 98% of other reactors.

She's young but while she's searching for her trademark style she seems to be trying on what others have done as original and focused on doing them better. Her voice is strong and beautiful and she has great control, but all those covers of old jazz standards sounded like amazing mimicry. That is frankly easier in some ways (especially when music was recorded when there was no special equipment or acoustic environment, let alone a modern studio...and yes I know she's not in a studio either, but the mike alone is way better.) It's to be expected when you're too young to have had those real emotions yet, but most of all it is not (yet) original or trailblazing. And that's okay if you are young and exploring and you have a versatile beautiful voice. But why are people over-the-top praising everything as though she invented everything about a song or unique style when she does a cover? Giver her some room to grow with already having the "big "O" every time she opens her mouth. Hard to get excited when people are treating her like she's already outperformed every artist who ever lived before she's even ripened into her own style. "Million Years Ago" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" give us more of w glimpse of the future that simply a somewhat stronger richer version of a previous song.

You see she's at home, not a studio... it's beyond me that when you listen to a COVER you get so easily perplexed at differences/deviations from the original? And yet "I'm surprised that her parents let her sing that 'lets go get high' is something you mentioned..so which is it? A cover needs to mirror the original? Like "coming in a little late, that's the 3rd time" and then stating you'd have to listen to the original to confirm it? in it so just MAYBE we can hear a reaction that's focused on technical issues, microphone, electronic enhancements, timing is off, etc... oh...and let's not forget your state of the art "Chills Meter" 😉😉😂. If it’s hard to listen to, why do you? I’m not perplexed. Her timing choice was ugly in comparison to the original. Timing is not affected by a home studio setting. Yes she usually changes the lyrics when they have more adult themes as I understand it. Never said it has to mirror original, in fact I like when it doesn’t. In this case her timing was not an enhancement imo, on the contrary. Again if you don’t like my style, why watch? Seems...stupid. Not sure what Quincy has to do with anything here but I can almost guarantee you he’d agree with me on her timing issues here. So, for your sake and mine, don’t watch any more of my reactions. Thanks

Very nice reaction Danny. Usually not a fan of "comparisons" but this was pretty good. Like Lana's version but definitely think Angelina's vocals are much better. To be fair, this appears to have been done in one take, so there's bound to be a mistake here and there. And she is known to be better in a live setting with an audience so I wouldn't put too much importance in those mistimings. Cheers!!!
Try I have nothing, a whitney houston cover, which i believe she does better at 12 then whitney did at 29. And as for her being early, Angelina is renowned for altering songs slightly to suit her own style and generally makes them her her own.

To those of us who are not experts on music theory or rules....we don't notice a few microseconds of being off time. Since she did the same thing twice...it must be the way she wanted to do it. I loved it and a couple of very minor timing flaws doesn't change that.

Angelina has more dept and layers in her voice than Lana Del Rey,and she is emitting much more emotions than Lana,and she is able to make you the lisstener hear an feel these emotions as well,Lana is not able to do that,so I think Angelina is not only better but way better than Lana Del Rey,and if you don't recognice that as a fact,you must have been a long time fan of Lana and therefore unable to hear the great difference in their voice.Lana has an ok voice and may be you can hear 3or4 songs by her before you want to listen to another artist.Angelina on the other hand you can listen to 24/7 without her ever getting boring,and if you don't recognice Angelina singing this song better than Lana,with all respekt I think it must be something wrong with your ears,or that you have lost your hearing aids,at least I think you are in the minority.

Early. Yes. Unusual because she usually tends to do a lot of back phrasing. But, for one take in her bedroom with a cheap karaoke track compared with Lana's very polished (who knows how many takes)high end studio version, I think Angie did a good job. I have mixed feelings about her Michael Jackson cover(I would have done it differently)but the other song you mentioned (the Whitney Houston/Mariah Carey cover) I absolutely loved. Sometimes it's just a matter of taste. I don't know if you're familiar with lutefisk, a traditional Norwegian Christmas food(at least it was when I was a child)but I always hated it while the rest of my Norwegian family loved it. Everything thing she sings is a 10. This one makes my eyes water every time I hear it. This one, Stay and A Million Years Ago are my fav choices. I love this girl's voice and have been a fan before the AGT performances. But I have to agree with you about the last 2 covers. Lana del Rey is not so much known for her vocal abilities, although her Style is so individual and special, hard to compare her to any other vocalist for that matter, but live she did show quiet some weaknesses. Nevertheless, as a composer she is just outstanding. Angelina we know is the more versatile vocalist, just always outstanding. Both are 2 exceptional artists.

You have to realize first that Lana has a very unique voice that is difficult to emulate. There have been other attempts to cover this song, and all have come up way short of Lana's version, mostly because they try to sound like her. Then we get Angelina's version, which for me, is far better than the original. Immediately, when I heard Angelina's version, having never heard Lana's, it was in my Top 10 of AJs performances. Once I compared it to Lana's, I was even more impressed. I still see it as one of the best things Angelina has ever done.

As far as the timing be off, that would be on purpose. Angelina knows how she wants to sing a song. She is known to her close associates as " the BOSS ". I think when she hears a song, she is singing it in her head they way she would sing it & we get to hear her gifted version of the original song.

The lower register of Angelina that she weaves into this makes it more interesting musically. The song is quite monotone on major parts, and Angelina breaks that with those beautiful, resonant lower notes and tones. Also, the texture that Angelina can turn on and off in her voice is probably unique for my experience. This one gets the Angelina treatment with texture, low and high registers, runs, and subtle vocal fry leading into and out of notes. It’s soothing, and we get introspective when Angelina sings about the good and bad in life.
Yes, I watched your review of Billie Jean. You were not a fan of the song itself or what Angelina did with it. With all respect, I have a slight disagreement. It is a spectacular, inventive, courageous cover of another iconic song that Angelina turns on its head with beautiful jazz timing and her incomparable vocal flexibility, giving us music we’ve never heard before. (Music most of us love.) I think it’s a classic already.

you are the first to point that out, and I totally agree that the timing sounded off. , although the rest is stunning.. I 'm a huge fan of hers.
To use a crude analogy, it's almost as though if most singer's are 6-string guitars, Angelina is a 12-string. Her voice is somehow thicker (not necessarily higher or lower but fuller) and more capable (especially when she inserts all the vocal effects at her command)!

I have got to start by mentioning that I am not one to look at singing as a competition (despite the realization that a competition is how we all first learned of Angelina😬). Having said that, I really do believe that this song is tailor made for Angelina’s beautiful voice.
This is one of Angelina’s best covers IMHO. Of course she is not flawless as you have pointed out Danny, but the song is beautiful nonetheless (I suspect she would correct her timing faux pas on her second take😜).
Maybe this slip up was purposely inserted for what I refer to as “the Navaho factor”.

The thing what made me admire the Billie Jean cover and If you believe was her dancing with the notes in a matter that can't be matched, just like her song, "Still holding out for you". Very few artists attain that capability and she is doing it at such a young age. She don't need them high notes, but knows how to pierce the soul with Emotion like no other! God Bless!

I agree with you, Danny. Angelina's deep and resonant low register is stunning, and her emotional delivery of the lyric hits exactly the mournful and slightly jaded note the material calls for. If I had one criticism of Angelina's technique, it would be that she seems to miss the pocket on a lot of pop material. In many pop styles, there are certain beats that must be hit precisely to deliver the authentic style. A little practice with a metronome when rehearsing songs of this type would be all Angelina needs to get the hang of it, I'm sure. And she's still better at it than Lana Del Ray; Lana's time sense is my biggest complaint about her version. What do you think?
Hmm, interesting. In this instance I think Lana’s got a good flowing sense of timing that didn’t disturb me but AJ’s did. AJ usually has great timing for the jazz covers at least and I loved her Still Holding Out For You.
Yeah, as you said, maybe it's an artistic choice with the timing. Sometimes she chooses to lag a little, sometimes she goes ahead of the beat. Whatever it is, it keeps us engaged!

Yes, this is definitely one of Angelina’s «improved originals». She does start that higher phrase a tad early, but ends it on the beat…twice. That, and the fact that she normally has impeccable timing (yet usully backphrases) makes me think it is on purpose.
As for artistic direction, that still seems to be up in the air. Her latest performanced are still very varied. That goes even for her own songs: «Million Miles» and «7th Heaven» don’t seems to have much in common except runs in the pentatonic minor (blues) scale. That may be an issue in commercial terms, but at the same time it is good to see that Republic have not put her in an artistic straight jacket. At 15, she still has lots of time…
Yeah she’ll develop more and more. Hopefully not into a run-of-the-mill pop or super singer that’s hard to differentiate from any others. What she has is unique and I hope she keeps it 👍🏻

I don’t think her timing hurt a thing. The songwriting was funky there. Word choice forces the accent to land different. Lana chose to deliver a hard straightened teeth gritting attack to be decisive while AJ allowed the softening and rounding of the schwa in place that you might hear in natural speech. I love her aesthetic choices. This whole song conveys the feeling beautifully.
Angelina knows Exactly what she chooses to do. She does a lot of back phrasing, and some think she's not keeping the right time. Definitely an artistic choice.

This is my first time to hear the original. I am shocked at how much better Angelina is. She adds much more depth and feeling to almost everything she covers, compared to the original artist. To me, Lana sounds like a novice and Angelina the seasoned performer.

This is one of my favorite's that Angelina covers. I so much prefer Angelina's version. Her voice is so rich in tone and curls. I think "high" can mean "high on life", or bigger. I love how there is actually emotion in the song with Angeline's version. Lana's voice sounds really lovely, but not a fan of the lack of emotion in the words. I know Angelina has done covers and subtly changed the words to be more age appropriate. I just assumed she was using a different definition of the word "high". I have noticed a few songs recently that i was rather surprised that she did NOT change some words that were not child-appropriate. I do love her version of this song. I like how she went early in “come and take a walk on the wild side”, it just works for me because it’s rushed and that’s the feeling I get. Like her character had switched from sad reflections on her life, to blurt out an invitation to join her in her addictions. I think that’s Angelina’s interpretation.

Great reaction! Not for the opinion, which was spot on, but for checking on the original and then going back to it. Angelina usually slows down songs in her covers, but this was was sped up, as it needed to be. She also uses a karaoke backing track and that is what caused the timing to be off. I dpnt think you would hear that on a studio produced version. Also, the song you really liked was I'm Still Holding Out For You. Its in most Angelina fans Top 3, including mine. AJ does another Lana Del Rey song, Young and Beautiful that is also fantastic. Much softer than Born to Die. When you have time, cover that one please AND do it in the same format!!! Play the originals first if you dont know the song. Thats just brilliant and much different than 98% of other reactors.

She's young but while she's searching for her trademark style she seems to be trying on what others have done as original and focused on doing them better. Her voice is strong and beautiful and she has great control, but all those covers of old jazz standards sounded like amazing mimicry. That is frankly easier in some ways (especially when music was recorded when there was no special equipment or acoustic environment, let alone a modern studio...and yes I know she's not in a studio either, but the mike alone is way better.)
It's to be expected when you're too young to have had those real emotions yet, but most of all it is not (yet) original or trailblazing. And that's okay if you are young and exploring and you have a versatile beautiful voice. But why are people over-the-top praising everything as though she invented everything about a song or unique style when she does a cover? Giver her some room to grow with already having the "big "O" every time she opens her mouth. Hard to get excited when people are treating her like she's already outperformed every artist who ever lived before she's even ripened into her own style. "Million Years Ago" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" give us more of w glimpse of the future that simply a somewhat stronger richer version of a previous song.

Hard to listen to your reactions sometimes... You see she's at home, not a studio... it's beyond me that when you listen to a COVER you get so easily perplexed at differences/deviations from the original? And yet "I'm surprised that her parents let her sing that 'lets go get high' is something you mentioned..so which is it? A cover needs to mirror the original? Your REACTIONS more resemble CRITIQUES, but I attribute it to "just having fun"👍🏻 Atleast you recognize the unique, beautiful and creative use of her talent that IS her voice... BTW... Globally known record producer, Quincy Jones, invited her to open his 87th Birthday Show with FULL ORCHESTRA singing FLY ME TO THE MOON (there's a video of her practice session with the orchestra and also a very short one of when she sang/auditioned for him). His reaction to hearing Angelina sing was "Angelina is the greatest young talent since Michael Jackson"..Now THAT'S a reaction😉 (BTW, Quincy produced MJ's album THRILLER" among other singles for MJ) Thanks for your unique approach to reactions... Glad you're willing to listen/endure all kinds of 🎶🎶. Remember, it would be an oh so boring world in music if it all sounded the same... Angelina's mind and heart are of one accord, to interpret, sing however she FEELS, we're ever so fortunate she shares her growth/journey with us!!
If it’s hard to listen to, why do you? I’m not perplexed. Her timing choice was ugly in comparison to the original. Timing is not affected by a home studio setting. Yes she usually changes the lyrics when they have more adult themes as I understand it. Never said it has to mirror original, in fact I like when it doesn’t. In this case her timing was not an enhancement imo, on the contrary. Again if you don’t like my style, why watch? Seems...stupid. Not sure what Quincy has to do with anything here but I can almost guarantee you he’d agree with me on her timing issues here. So, for your sake and mine, don’t watch any more of my reactions. Thanks

To those of us who are not experts on music theory or rules....we don't notice a few microseconds of being off time. Since she did the same thing twice...it must be the way she wanted to do it. I loved it and a couple of very minor timing flaws doesn't change that.

it's one thing to appreciate a cover but THERE IS NO WAY that anyone sang that song better than lana del rey. I don't care if you are 12 or 13 or 80 you don't sound better than lana del rey.
Angelina has more dept and layers in her voice than Lana Del Rey,and she is emitting much more emotions than Lana,and she is able to make you the lisstener hear an feel these emotions as well,Lana is not able to do that,so I think Angelina is not only better but way better than Lana Del Rey,and if you don't recognice that as a fact,you must have been a long time fan of Lana and therefore unable to hear the great difference in their voice.Lana has an ok voice and may be you can hear 3or4 songs by her before you want to listen to another artist.Angelina on the other hand you can listen to 24/7 without her ever getting boring,and if you don't recognice Angelina singing this song better than Lana,with all respekt I think it must be something wrong with your ears,or that you have lost your hearing aids,at least I think you are in the minority.

I have listen to this song a lot of times,and Lana's voice is like she is singing in 2 D( mono)compared to Angelina singing iin 3 D(stereo)so to say that Lana's singing because she wrote the song is better than Angelina and that she must be better to emote,becauce it's she that has had tid experiences that the song is written about.The best I can say about your standpoint is that you are in the minority,becauce if to is neutral,you have to admitte that Angelina compared til Lana is in another division,she is way better.

Early. Yes. Unusual because she usually tends to do a lot of back phrasing. But, for one take in her bedroom with a cheap karaoke track compared with Lana's very polished (who knows how many takes)high end studio version, I think Angie did a good job. I have mixed feelings about her Michael Jackson cover(I would have done it differently)but the other song you mentioned (the Whitney Houston/Mariah Carey cover) I absolutely loved. Sometimes it's just a matter of taste. I don't know if you're familiar with lutefisk, a traditional Norwegian Christmas food(at least it was when I was a child)but I always hated it while the rest of my Norwegian family loved it.
