- Angkor Wat is a massive temple complex located in Siem Reap, Cambodia. It was built in the early 12th century by King Suryavarman II, who dedicated it to the Hindu god Vishnu. Angkor Wat is surrounded by a moat and an outer wall that encloses an area of approximately 200 hectares. The central tower of the temple rises to a height of 65 meters and is surrounded by four smaller towers. The temple is known for its intricate bas-reliefs, which depict scenes from Hindu mythology and historical events.
Despite being originally built as a Hindu temple, Angkor Wat was later converted into a Buddhist temple in the 16th century. Today, it is still an active religious site and a popular tourist destination. The temple complex is also a UNESCO World Heritage site, recognized for its historical and cultural significance.
