So, I'm here 2 years later to tell you only one thing: Thank you Thank you because you made me discover Gojira, their music, their life, I love most of their songs, I cried along with their songs, I could watch them live last summer and I was there, on front of the stage, from 10a.m to 10p.m, only to wait for em, I resisted thru Pantera and other bands moshpits only to watch them from the front of the stage, screaming at Joe, Mario, Jean Michel and Andreu, and gaining a Joe guitar pick at the end of their performance, i made so much friends there that could be all my brothers and sisters. So, thank you

It's honestly crazy how 2-3 years ago I watched this video of a band who at the time I'd never heard of, and now here I am those years later after having gotten my first ever tattoo, which is a recreation of this very album's cover art. Just came back from RotR 2017 a few days ago, got to see Gojira. First time I got to crowd surf and the pits kinda went nuts. 10/10 would recommend seeing live. We all lost our minds when they played this.

I judge a drummer on how skill-full he is behind the kit, how cleanly he plays, how well his drum parts fit the music, how musical he sounds, how pumped up I get listening to them play, and yes, how powerful a drummer is. Marco is a clean cut example of all of those things. And I mentioned the powerful thing for the full reason of Marco hits hard haha. If you've been lucky enough to see them play live you'd know what I mean. You feel every single hit deep in your chest. And they had a part in their show where Marco and Joe switched instruments for a song. Also Joe isn't a drummer so it doesn't help much, but Joe had nearly half the power Marco does and I had a hard time hearing him play due to the drums didn't project nearly as much. So, long story short, yes I guess I judge drummers on who hits the hardest, but also those who do it musically. There's a lot of guys that hit hard, but have horrible technique behind it and it hurts to watch. Marco looks good doing it, I'm not afraid he's gonna break his cymbals or his kit. (I'd keep going on various other points but I think you get the gist of it there.)
For heavy metal, Mario is an absolute beast on the drums. But in my opinion Brann Dailor of Mastodon is my favorite drummer of all time. He does all of these insane drum fills, great metal drumming, and he even sings while doing it all. Mario is a better "metal" drummer, but Brann is just more skilled in all kinds of ways. This is my opinion, just sayin'.
Playing this on drums is one of the best experiences with how much fun it is and keeping that whole backbeat in the first section of the song is so intense. The fills are insanely fun and it's just honestly really great musical writing

The beauty, the atmosphere, the eeriness, the message about global warming and extinction of creatures and of course the sheer heaviness and brutality of their music opened the door to many many new bands and in general the genre of death metal. I don't know why but this song never got me. Something in the riff at 02:42 just really turns me off. The heavier riffs had me headbanging like mad then it cuts to that lighter riff again and I feel no love for it...
