One more practical use case to use 2020.4 new features. Love your LOD when teaching new features, the right click on marks, renaming layers, among other things. One question is why did you use the join to get population instead of logical relationship ( still waiting for part 2 on blend vs join vs relationship I guess, to get a clear answer ☺️)? Also how a single calculated field named Tree turned color to green? I would love a tutorial about sets and parameter action in 2021, and as always, THANK YOU for making a difference
Thank you abderrahim! These are great questions 🙂 1. You are correct. I didn't need to use the join for the population. I could have used a relationship and that would have worked as well. It was just preference that I wanted to show the population as another column from the same logical table. I also wanted to incorporate a way for me to discuss both join and relationship in the video. One that I wanted to incorporate in the video was a calculated join (for example we can check if a point intersects a boundary) .. and this would not have been possible (right now) with a relationship. This would have been the perfect use case for the join (I was not able to include it in the video this time. Next time!) 2. For the calculated field, it was because I couldn't select a color once I changed the shape to the tree. It would have required that I dragged a different pill over, and changed all those values into the same color. That is still an option, because we could technically consider different colors for certain neighborhoods. For purposes of the tutorial I simply wanted to change one field to change all the colors, hence I decided to create the "Tree" calculated field. It just enables me to drag a pill (that has a single value) to color. Thank you for your suggestion - I do have groups, sets and parameters as part of my next videos. Seriously the best tableau tutorial I have seen, and I’ve been watching a lot of them. You don’t leave anything out. I didn’t have the power query add-in for Excel, but I managed by cutting and pasting. I would love a slowed-down video on those finishing touches for more mastery of the aesthetics. In particular, I didn't have AGG(#Heritage Buildings) and AGG(#Parks) - are these calculated fields you added, like % of Population? It could be I'm having other issues :-). Thank you again for such a professional and generous effort!

Love the details with an effective explanation of why we are doing so! I want to create a tableau map layer with a specific Hurricane Path and the number of customers affected. Customer Data will give the exact address/zipcode of a customer but the Hurricane path data may be in geo-json. Any idea how to convert a geo-json into a shape map and then blend it with the customer concentration data with zoom capability?
I would be interested in watching a weekly screencast where you take some data (Kaggle, Quandl or Our World In Data ) and do a complete analysis (including dashboard and Story).
How do I apply a filter on one of the multiple map layers. I ran into a situation where my base layer (similar to your boundary layer) is messed up after applying a filter on the data in another layer. The data sets are connected currently through logical relationships with a common field of zip. Appreciate your help!
Thanks Lydia. I am not sure 100% but I would assume that creating some kind of calculation with a logic statement - and producing a Geometry field - might help. For example, something like: IF condition 1 THEN GeometryField END And then use this calculated field as your base layer instead?
I'm having trouble just loading the file into tableau. I downloaded parks and heritage as shp files because that's what I'm familiar with but when I try to connect to either I get a message column 'neighborho' specified more than once. I get a similar message with the heritage file. I don't understand the error or how to fix as I just want to follow along. Advice?
@@sqlbelle Yes Ma’am, I am getting errors. I used tableau public 2020.2 edition to reciprocate the stuff done in the above video. Now, I upgrade my edition, it is tableau public 2021.1. I tried to implement with new updated version but I couldn’t, it displays ordinal 2 doesn’t exist. I found adding map layers option in updated version. I think this adding map layer option is available from 2020.4. I am sorry it is clearly stated on your video but I missed that detail. Can you please help me how to resolve that ordinal 2 doesn’t exist error, that would be helpful. I really appreciate your time. Thanks.

Hi, I tried to create calculated field WEEKEND TRANSCATIONS. IF datename(“day”, [date]) = “Saturday” or datename(“day”, [date]) = “Sunday” then count(transactions) Else 0 End. It displays error, can’t mix aggregate and nonaggregate functions. I tried case statements, IIF, did some modifications in the above formula. But couldn’t figure out the way to solve my issue. Please help me in solving out the scenario.

Adding another Map layer feature is not available in tableau public 2020.4. How can we make it happen using public edition?
Hello Monika, I tested this out using Tableau Public and it works. Both datasets needs to have geometry fields. Are you getting any errors?
