How to Connect with Your Audience Through Data Stories
In this lesson, we dive into data storytelling and creating effective visuals.
As data professionals, we often have a lot of data and need to find hidden insights.
But how do we turn those findings into a story our audience can understand?
This video will provide tips on how to create compelling data stories and pick the right visuals.

This video is one of the modules in a bigger course on data visualization best practices, which I co-created with Data Governance expert George Firican.

    One comment at minute 7:50: Why do we have the same numbers for every year at the most frequent level (17, 13)? I interpret this report as follows: one customer bought 17 orders every year. If I add customers to the tooltip, I see the one who bought 17 orders every year, which seems incorrect. Do you think the calculated field should be modified like this: {FIXED [Customer ID], [Year Order Date]: COUNTD([OrderID])}?

    • @zeeshanahmed9719
      @zeeshanahmed9719 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      "we have the same numbers for every year at the most frequent level (17, 13)" 13 7 17 1 consider 13 first: For this row grand total is 7, it means there are 7 distinct customers each ordered through 13 distinct order IDs. and for every year countd(customerID) is 7, means all these 7 customers ordered in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Similarly for 17 1.

    In customer acquisition trend use case, countd(customer_id) at a given min(order date) can also include those customer_ids that placed its 2nd or 3rd order on that day. Example: On 1st March 2017 five customers placed order for the very first time, including HR-14770. Tableau showing countd(customer id)=5 On 2nd March 2017 two customers placed order for the very first time. countd(customer_id)= 2. Now I added a row for one more order of HR-14770 on 2nd March 2017. This count should not be included for 2nd March 2017 because this is not HR-14770's very first order and HR-14770 is not a new customer on 2nd March 2017. But after addition of this row, countd(customer_id) for 2nd March 2017 changed from 2 to 3.

    Thank you Ma'am, your explaination are excellent. I understood everything explained in the video except @ 30:00 in the acquisition trend chart, I got the same chart, but when I changed week (First order date fixed) to day(First order date fixed) to check the counts manually on Excel sheet, I see difference in the way in which countd(customer_id) and count(customer_Id) is calculated. countd(customer_id) calculation is intuitive and it counts distinct customer_id on that particular date only. whereas, in count(customer_id) calculation it counts all rows of that customer_id including the particular date as well as other dates. Please explain why count(customer_id) counting rows of customer_Id for other dates also?

    Hii, could you please make a video on how to calculate dynamic threshold that can be changed by the end user? The gold is if the dollar value reaches the threshold, a message in sheet title should say something. The problem i have is that if multiple products reach that threshold, the message shows "All" instead of the message i want shown.

    Hi Sqlbelle! First off, #bigFan Offtopic query about CSV downloading: I have a table in my dashboard, that some of colleagues in the company need to download as CSV. And few higher managers don't want to download CSV in regular way - they want single button to download data in view with applied filters. I tried to create a download button, and assigning dashboard URL ending with ".CSV" (Andy Kriebel's trick, a.w.a. extension from informationLab). Issue is - 10s of measures that I have arranged in individual columns get squashed into 2 columns: measureNames, measureValues. How to solve this? It would be helping hand if you can make a quick video about this❤

    Hi Madam How can we automate task in Tableau + Alteryx Project?? In case of Tableau + Tableau Prep Builder we can create workflow in Tableau Prep Builder then we can publish output ( Superstore.hyper) as well as workflow to Tableau Server. Then We can connect Tableau Desktop to data output( Superstore.hyper) from Alteryx which is already published on Tableau Server. After dashboard development with can publish Tableau Dashboard to Tableau Server. Then we can schedule data refresh and Workflow Refresh on Tableau Server.
