      Thank you Sara, I learned a few things while working on this video too. The blue and green difference (header vs pane and axis vs pane) was a new discovery. I think before I kinda knew which worked and which didn't but I didn't understand why.
      For the formatting challenges in general it's still hard. It would be nice if eventually we can get some report that shows us at which level the last formatting was applied 😀 .. maybe in a future version :)

    Excellent work! First 38 minutes video that I don’t want to end.
    A lot of frustration when dealing with formatting in Tableau makes first-time users gave up and go back to excel. This format tutorial should go to the tableau free learning website. I know the amount of work and preparation you invested in making it easy for us, your followers, to grasp all about tableau formatting, and you successfully achieved this task.

    i am in the middle of learning Tableau online. I used Quickview and PowerBI previously. So it is not hard for me to learn Tableau. However, when i took the online course, i still sometimes feel frustrated and confused. and then i suddenly came across your videos. Your videos help me understand so many concepts easily and i now feel more confident to master Tableau. I hope more and more people will find your videos.     Very helpful! The part about discrete and continuous fields behaving differently in a shelf or on the marks card was completely new to me. The hierarchy also clarified a few things. Maybe in a future video, add formatting parameters too. I recently had a dashboard where any changes I made were completely ignored.

    I came to know about your channel through Tableau Tim. I was often getting confused when it comes to row banding levels.I used to experiment with those everytime and stick with whatever works at that point in time. Your video helped me to appreciate the differences and your clear explanations for each of the formatting options was top-notch and very easy to follow. Thanks a lot . I am sure you would have put in tons of efforts to prepare and consolidate topics in a coherent way. Looking forward to learn more from your channel.
    Just a quick question. What was the annotation tool which you are using ? I have seem Tim using a similar tool to annotate and just curious to know about the same. Thanks again.

    Thanks. You are The Best. Is there any way to show expand and collapse ( plus and minus) buttons without hovering. If report contains two columns with hierarchy then it’s difficult to see plus and minus symbol without hover. Could you please advise any workaround to this issue ?

      Thank you. This can be done but with a little bit more work. On top of my head I think you can use a combo of set actions and shape palette to achieve something like this. It is not as straightforward for sure.

    Hello. I'm having issues in text wrapping. When I publish my desktop report to my server, it seems that some of the letters are being left out. Someone said that I should edit my wrapping from Automatic to On. I edited mine but it's still not update. Will you please help.

      Thanks Jers. Usually for text wrapping in Tableau you also need to make sure you have enough space for the text to wrap, ie, you may need to adjust the cell's height. Please give it a try and let me know.

      @@user-re5uv2mm2h Hmm usually it means there is still not enough space. Tableau won't autosize per cell - all cell widths and heights are uniform. Are you able to share a sample workbook (no proprietary/sensitive info) in Tableau Public? I can help look at it.

      Thanks for the feedback. Yes. They are two very different tools with different primary purposes. Other tools will also differ, and sometimes it's just the nature of having different tools (Mac vs PC, R vs Python, Power BI vs Tableau ....)
