Johnny Winter was definitely one of the greats. I’ve been listening to his music for over 50 years, and still enjoy it like I did the very first time that I heard it. I saw him perform live in 2014 about a month before he passed way and he was still killin’ it on stage. Here’s a few of his other songs that you might enjoy: “Highway 61 Revisited”, “Mean Town Blues”, “Be Careful With A Fool”, and “Memory Pain”. As always, thanks for the great tunes, memories and smiles.
Johnny Winter is considered by many to be the greatest slide blues guitarist ever. I absolutely agree! If you ever had the chance to see Johnny perform live then you would've been completely blown away. I know because I was.
My first time seeing him was at the Bessie Smith strut in Chattanooga in the mid 80s, I was about 15 feet from him tearing up the stage. It was the best show I ever saw bar none.
I've been a HUGE Johnny Winter fan since I was 14 I M now 67. He was a very humble good guy never trashed any other performer. Just 1st class all the way and in my humble opinion the best there was.
You got that right buddy Johnny Winter was the best & there's alot of old timers like you & me that got to hear him recorded & live (40+ times ) that know it as fact !
Can't believe you've discovered Johnny! I saw him live a bunch of times and he never failed to kick ass! Don't stop now, there is a treasure trove awaiting discovery.
Johnny Winter, Muddy Waters, James Cotton, and Pinetop Perkins recorded a couple of albums together including Muddy Waters Hard Again album. Awesome session and every track that came out of it is worth a listen.
NoLegalPlunder In the 70's I went to a JW concert. Surprisingly out comes this kid with a guitar on stage with Johnny. This was not expected because Johnny was usually as much guitar as any stage could handle. Well that concert they played the songs from that And Live album and it was amazing seeing Rick and Johnny trade licks. Having seen Santana, Clapton,Beck, Page, Buddy, Stevie and many other greats over the years, that JW concert still ranks as number one. I last saw Johnny in 2010 and he was still cranking it out on the guitar. Definitely my favourite bluesman. Rip Johnny.
Johnny was a friend of Jimi Hendrix and was a pall bearer at jimi’s funeral. He’s also the only artist to have a double album with only three sides the fourth was just blank!
They did that to keep the volume high. They could have fit it onto one vinyl disk, but would have to make the grooves too small which affects the volume, but didn’t have enough material for two full records.
I once drove across the state of Oklahoma with my teenage son just to go see Johnny Winter and opening act Eric Sardinas in an Ardmore High School Auditorium sometime in 2005 maybe. Both were pretty proficient slide guitar players. Eric played slide with a full beer bottle he brought in, which he used as a slide, shaking and sploding beer all over the place, but he still couldn't top the show Johnny Winter put on. The man had to be helped on the stage and off because of his restricted vision, but then proceeded to burn it down with face melting music. My son was so impressed, he decided to buy a slide for his guitar and learned how to use it quickly.
Jamel, thank you from the bottom of my heart, I know how busy you are with all those requests but now I can die a happy man seeing you react to request. I knew you would enjoy him, I have for over 50 years and he is like no one else. Once again THANK YOU for doing this.

He was personally responsible for reviving Muddy Waters career in his (Muddy's) later year. Third Degree the name of the album that Johnny Winter recorded was an incredible album. With songs like "Tin Pan Alley", Evil on My Mind" & "Mojo Boogie"

I finally got to see Brian play last summer. He & the Red Special still sound fantastic. I'm very lucky, I also got to see Hendrix play just two months before he died. It's funny, I don't play guitar but I know when I see & hear something special. My list of people I was LUCKY enough to see also includes Ritchie Blackmore with Deep Purple in their early days, Joe Walsh, Robin Trower, etc. So many really famous ones, but I really wish Rory Gallagher was known & remembered by more people.💙
@@deborahcornell171 it’s crazy how many people have never heard of Rory Gallagher. My father in law is in his 60’s, big music fan from Johnny winter to the Beatles to the doors to ZZ Top, zeppelin, Joni Mitchell. You get the point, but he had no clue who Rory was!

Rumour has it that before Johnny made it big, he was down in New Orleans and met a certain Docteur John Creaux, who brought him on down to Rampart Street for a good luck hoodoo gris-gris. A gypsy woman prepared for him a mojo to give him extraordinary powers at guitar mastery. That was some powerful conjuring obviously! Word is that Johnny always kept that mojo tucked into his back pocket. Le bon Docteur also had the gypsy mix him a trick bag, took up the piano, and shortened his name by dropping the Creaux. Dr. John, the Night Tripper was borned! Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Legend has it a reporter asked Jimi Hendrix what it was like to be the greatest guitarist in the world, to which Jimi replied, "Maybe you should ask Johnny Winter". :)
You really need to see Taj Farrant, an 11 year old guitar player who is already playing amazing music and has played with Santana and been the youngest player to be signed up by Gibson guitars. Truly phenomenal not just for his age but as a guitarist in general.
I can only hope, even if it's for your own listening pleasure, to find "Second Winter" and just kick back and be amazed at one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time.
Saved Muddy's career! What a great thing to do for your idol...man that album is crazy good! Cross Eyed Cat, Deep Down In Florida, Can't Be Satisfied...Hard Again is just an essential blues album!
Johnny spent a good bit of time in New Orleans. North of the city is a recording studio called Studio in the Country in Bogalusa, Louisiana where he recorded.
@@Dervanism that's your opinion. There are bands that have been reacted to here that I don't really care for and I haven't been negative . I just don't say anything about . Every one has different tastes. Peace out.
Johnny was a incredible guitar picker, his style of playing was always on the attack, but then he would put the steel slide on his little finger and become a monster of slide guitar action as in this song. Johnny packs more slide notes into a 5 to 10 second section then most do in an entire song. I've seen him live going back to 1973 until his death in 2014 and one thing about his shows was how much energy was released into the crowd. He would just wear me out. RIP John Dawson Winter III
Been grabbing 78rpm records with Boogie titles for years. Johnny's a legend, and you got a great song choice to start. You won't have disappointments hearing any of his songs.
Cool man! Johnny winter. First big Texas rock and blues guitarist. Please check out his version of rock and roll hoochie coo. Also his very bad ass version of jumping jack flash, if you can find the live 74 version it's amazing. A lot of soul. I was lucky enough to see him in the 70s. He was an albino with the soul of an old bluesman. One of the greatest guitarists of the 60s and 70s.
If you want to react to the greatest resonator slide guitar song ever performed, you should listen to Johnny Winter's "Dallas" from his self-named album. It is a song that slips through the cracks when people listen to Johnny. Most people don't know that a guitar can even be played that way. The song isn't well known, because it didn't get any airplay back then, as it was a stripped down Texas Blues tune. This was a great musician and I once had the pleasure of watching him perform from an arm's length away. One of the high marks in my life. Listen to Dallas even if you choose not to react to it. You own it to your ears.
Great to see you getting into Mr Johnny Winter! His album White, Hot and Blue is freakin awesome. Saw him live in the late 70s. Wasted off his azz, a guy was running around behind him with a chair! Guess he was worried he would fall. Still love him, blues guitarist extraordinaire!!! 💜💜

Johnny was more than just a great musician, producer. He was a hell of a nice guy. He was generous with his knowledge and time.
Been a Johnny Winter.fan for a long time. He was real good live. This was a good pick. Thanks for the great memory.
Yes! Great reaction Jamel! 🔥 I had the chance to watch Johnny play live and his energy was infectious, he was a super talented musician! RIP🙌🏻
Johnny Winter's Guitar intro on this song reminds me of Taj Mahal's Statesboro Blues. He also does a mean version of Chuck Berry's Johnny B. Goode.
Taj is the man! Chevrolet...talk about some stank!
He was at Woodstock! 500.000 people. Grooving! Don't forget to boggie! Help these young people brothers and sisters in great music! Try Rambling gambling man! Bob Seger! Detroit baby!
The white tornado! I was lucky enough to see this legend live!
Tommy Shannon played bass for the two of the greatest modern blues guitarists Johnny Winter and Stevie Ray Vaughan 20 years apart.
Legend has it a reporter asked Jimi Hendrix what it was like to be the greatest guitarist in the world, to which Jimi replied, "Maybe you should ask Johnny Winter". :)
This made my day better! Thanks to Johnny Winter and Jamel_AKA_Jamal! The stank face is here to STAY!
wait til you hear him play "the sky is crying". no words for it.
Here comes the stank face maximus 🤣🤣
You really need to see Taj Farrant, an 11 year old guitar player who is already playing amazing music and has played with Santana and been the youngest player to be signed up by Gibson guitars. Truly phenomenal not just for his age but as a guitarist in general.
All I can say is man I'm proud to be a Texan! I grew up on these guys too thanks to my mother!
I can only hope, even if it's for your own listening pleasure, to find "Second Winter" and just kick back and be amazed at one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time.
Now you can check out some of Johnnys work with Muddy Waters like Mannish Boy
Saved Muddy's career! What a great thing to do for your idol...man that album is crazy good! Cross Eyed Cat, Deep Down In Florida, Can't Be Satisfied...Hard Again is just an essential blues album!
That would be terrific!
Johnny spent a good bit of time in New Orleans. North of the city is a recording studio called Studio in the Country in Bogalusa, Louisiana where he recorded.
Another New Orleans song is New Orleans is Sinking by the Tragically Hip. Will also bring out the stank. Love Johnny and Edgar Winter.!
Make sure it’s the live version! Killer whale tank UH! killer whale tank UH!
Tragically hip suck 🇨🇦✌🏻🇨🇦
@@Dervanism that's your opinion. There are bands that have been reacted to here that I don't really care for and I haven't been negative . I just don't say anything about . Every one has different tastes. Peace out.
Derek Beaton you’re the minority on that one bud
@@lakai475 no..Derek obviously mad....as he has no bud
STANK FACE SPECIAL-“GIVE IT TO ME” (full version) by THE J. GILES BAND! Do yourself A favor, you won’t regret it!
Jamel needs to do a J Geils deep dive fo sure.
"Any song with New Orleans in bring out the stank"....Tragically Hip "New Orleans is Sinking ", it got plenty of stank
Tragically hip are very overrated Gord downie can’t sing at all 🇨🇦✌🏻🇨🇦
Johnny was a incredible guitar picker, his style of playing was always on the attack, but then he would put the steel slide on his little finger and become a monster of slide guitar action as in this song. Johnny packs more slide notes into a 5 to 10 second section then most do in an entire song. I've seen him live going back to 1973 until his death in 2014 and one thing about his shows was how much energy was released into the crowd. He would just wear me out. RIP John Dawson Winter III
jw is amazing, he is playing a f-ing song within the song.... with his solos. he is a genius in its true meaning....
Johnny Winter - "Memory Pain", "Rock & Roll", "Let It Bleed"
Been grabbing 78rpm records with Boogie titles for years.
Johnny's a legend, and you got a great song choice to start. You won't have disappointments hearing any of his songs.
Been rockin to JW since 1972...his 'And Live album is one of the baddest live albums of all time
Please do Johnny Winters “Be careful with a Fool”. Thanks,
Another great song!
He does a great cover of Johnny B Goode
