    There already is great skill in correctly identifying the language, even if it isn't a language you speak. It's always great to see their reactions once you mention their language and they are pleasantly surprised!

      You reaction is so interesting haha. Sometimes I didn't speak the language, but people were already surprised when I recognized it was Romanian or Estonian. It gives me even more motivation to learn these languages now.

    Bro, Romanian and Irish Gaelic should be the two top languages to get conversational skills in for you, as it seems like those two seem to get you the most. I kinda get the feeling most of the folks catching you in Gaelic are doing it with canned phrases, though.

    As I'm watching your videos I've noticed middle European languages are missing, Hungarian, Romanian, Slovakian, Serbian, Croatian... I am from Hungary only very few people speak my difficult language, it would be a pleasure to hear you speak Hungarian 😊 besides of course you are making a wonderful work with languages 👍🇦🇨🇦🇩🇦🇩🇦🇪🇦🇪

      Mayoral is considered to be a middle European language, the rest are eastern and southern.
      You are correct though. But, in his defence, they are all dead languages. There is no way those dialects are going to be useful to him at some point.

      Nowadays there are a hell of a lot sources to learn any tongue a wish is the only thing needed 1-2 year is enough for any language to reach fluency.

      @@Dariusuzu depends. You can get to a decent level in 1-2 years but if you want to reach near native fluency it'll still take many years.

      Originally, the Italian peninsula was home to several states with different languages, even though they are related to each other and given the fact that they were conquered by the Romans, today Italian is the base. So what I'm trying to say is that they are different languages.

      @@sisonoiolorenzo724, yes and no. Today Italian is really different from the old language. Neapolitan language have common roots with Latin rather than Italian. It's a different language. I'm Romanian, not Italian, but I've been studying history, especially Dacian and Roman, so I have some knowledge about the topic. I suggest you do the same. Regards from Romania.

      And another thing: knowing only Italian will never understand someone speaking in Neapolitan. It's too different.
      Genoese, on the other hand is indeed an Italian dialect. Neapolitan no. It's a language, not a dialect.

    The ability to speak (even more if you know how to write) thirty (I didn't remember the exact number) different languages, even if some of them at a basic level, is really impressive.
    A small suggestion, if you allow me: try to learn the most difficult language in the world, namely Romanian.
    A little hint: it's not hard to pronounce, it's a phonetic language after all, I think the closest to the base of sounds that make up the human communication system as a whole. It is difficult in terms of meanings, with many words that mean different things depending on the context, and on the other hand, having extremely many completely different words that mean the same thing regardless of the context.

    Hi Wouter. I'm a native speaker of Polish, but I just like language the same you do. Many times I've heard you saying "puedo hablar" but I think it should be "sé hablar" the same in italian "so parlare". It's not to criticise you, I love your videos. You motivate me. Thanks

      I speak English but now i live in Mexico so Spanish is my first language now I almost speak french fluently. I understand Portuguese, italian, papiamento, and catalan but can't speak them I can only make out what they're saying. i have also been learning Japanese, mandarin Chinese, Russian, and Turkish and but i only speak a little. Out of all those languages I've mentioned I always feel ashamed that i haven't studied other like Arabic and Karen and french creole (not the one from Haiti from Dominica) because my family speaks it

      I've noticed this as a recurring theme in his videos. People would purport that their dialect is a language. Another one would be someone from Valencia (Spain) saying that Valencian is a language when in actual fact it is just a dialect of Catalan.
      I don't get why people would take this challenge so seriously and blatantly lie for a few cheap dollars. I'd have been happy to just have multilingual conversations with Wouter lol.

    Wouter your English is great but in your introduction you always say "speak a language which I don't know". Proper English would have it as "a language that I don't know".

      @@WouterCorduwener Linguistically, a dialect is a language. You can also say that Spanish, French and Italians are just dialects of Latin. Meanwhille you often count Swiss German as a separate language than German while it's a dialect. Same with Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Malaysia while they are dialects of the same language

      There is no "real" version of the language. Languages evolve and take shapes of different forms over many decades and centuries. American English is just as real and valid as British English much like Brazilian Portuguese is to Iberian Portuguese.
