It's very simple. Don't cave to the fans. I say this as a roman hater, if they gave him the supercena treatment and had him going over everyone despite what the crowd thinks, it would end up being a massive success. The only reason he doesn't feel right anymore is because they go back and forth all the time on him. Have some conviction dammit.

People came to him with ideas and they worked out something together so Vince doesn't immediately shut down the pitches. Since I'm pretty sure that guy has long been gone, Vince has probably been running wild on the whole creative team for years
Kinda disappointed you didn't involve some storyline where, get this, the heel uses some dog themed props to attack Roman. Perhaps some canine product which is to be ingested? Maybe a dog collar match which is essentially a strap match but they're wearing dog collars and tied to each other by a leash? What if a heel brings out someone who's wearing a giant dog costume, and as a special stipulation, the person is on a forklift. You smell what the big dog is cooking?

There are two kinds of people who dislike Roman. 1: those who hate him just cause he’s the “top guy”. And 2: those who were watching or were AT the 2015 royal rumble, And know why the boos still go on to this very day.
It's not even that, the reason why people dislike him is because vince mcmahon wants him to be THE main guy and face of the company so bad but it just doesn't work that way. Yes he's very good in the ring but there is somthing that lacks him to be the guy
I dont dislike Roman.....I'm just bored every time I see him. Every angle he's in is so generic. The promos he cuts have zero emotion to them and he comes across as false. You watch one of his matches you've seen all of them. I've sat mumbling "drive by, superman punch, ooooo aaaaaaah, spear," under my breath moments before he does any of them. The commentary keeps TELLING me how awesome and strong and brave and that he's THE BIIIIIIIIIIIIG DAWG!!!! every time he's on camera. I should need to be told that constantly I should have been made to actually feel that about him organically and naturally. I dont want him to go heel.....he doesn't need to. He needs to be an ass kicking take no shit bad mutha fucka. Doesnt need to say much but when he does it should be something intimidating and with some passion behind it. He just needs to be what he is........a 6ft 4 or something, jacked and tatted savage looking islander who would most likely take your fucking head off if you talk shit to him. Dont say he's good or bad, let us decide and go with it you know like they did with Stone Cold......shit he could be there next taker

@@robineir Actually in my fantasy booking of Lana 's return, she would of been plotting a vendetta towards Becky Lynch. Like Lana could of came back with this gimmick of inheriting a fortune. Not just a beauty, but now a spoiled rich brat. But the twist is she's smart. Think about the Triple H/Goldberg fued. When Triple H finally dropped the title, he put a bounty on Goldberg. Lana could of easily done it, and why? She has motive. Lynch took Lana's spot in the Royal Rumble and we all know the rest. And you do this thing were its not just the basic faces of Raw attacking Lynch. Raw, SmackDown, even 1-off NXT appearances all attacking Becky. Then at SummerSlam the match happens. An injured Becky Lynch retains with one good arm.

That's everyone biggest problem with Roman after Shield broke up that everyone moved on from the Shield and changed their attires and theme but Roman has the Shield music(altered but still the same)and the Shield attire but altered,they should have changed his attire completely and remeinded the silent buy deadly character he was when we where behind him
Crazy how like You said WWE was insistent on pushing this "one guy" narrative when it's obvious their best ever run company wise was the attitude era were there were multiple organic "guys" Stone Cold, Roc, HHH, Undertaker, Kane, Angle...... None of them had to be forced down our throats. They organically became who they were and the company was better for it.
I think WWE has just given up on trying to replicate that success because, in their eyes, it's impossible. Much easier, in theory, to smash one guy over than to organically create 5 or more top stars.

When I try to think of a truly bad wrestler in the WWE right now, as far as a truly hopeless case, the only one that comes to mind is Nia Jax. I think the best way to book Roman is by having Seth Rollins start referring to himself as the Conniving Cat. Then have them both dressed in full furry outfits (the Big Dog and the Conniving Cat) in a Kennel Match (both men fight trying to stuff the other in an animal kennel). Roman wins, then this sets off a constant barrage of animal themed matches against repackaged superstars as WWE slowly descends into madness. They even reclaim the WWF (Wildlife Wrestling Fund) in order to promote the Big Dog going up against a pack of *actual* dogs. Isolation is doing things to me man.

LordMANIX they literally teased the shield breaking up in the first place for months with Ambrose and Reigns then they did the swerve with Rollins being the one to turn. That is the definition of long term booking

Bryan is now a legend and doesn't need it and Sami is also a wonderful underdog and in my opinion a much better as a babyface than his current heel character. Also imagine how big of a star maker Roman will be if he beats the Rock

I think because Zayn is such a heel right now it is going to take awhile to get back to baby face Zayn. You mentioned Reigns beating Rock which I’m guessing will be at WrestleMaina and that’s a great idea so by say SummerSlam next year we could have a fully face Zayn again if built properly. I don’t really like talking about Zayn though. He has so so much potential to be the biggest baby face since Bryan or Punk and WWE just didn’t know what to do with him. After he beat Owens at Battleground in 2016 which is one of the best main roster matches that decade he just got lost on the card and I felt bad for him. He should have gone to Smackdown in 2016 or at least beat the Miz at Survivor Series to move to Smackdown. Even when he moved there in 2017 they just didn’t know what to do and they turned him heel. I love him as a heel but he is so much better as a face.

The best time to turn Roman heel was the night after Mania 33 when he beat Taker. DO YOU REMEMBER THAT HEAT?! Like, it was the BEST heat WWE has had in the last 10 years. oh my god combine the WHITE HOT crowd with Roman playing them like a fiddle and then cuts the heel promo of all time in FIVE WORDS. "This is my yard now." gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Whether it was working or not, all of that is irrelevant. THAT moment. THAT 10 MINUTES is what screwed Roman these last few years.
So true. Reigns got SO MUCH HEAT after beating the Undertaker and he dropped the crowd with a ONE LINER which got him booed out of the building. WWE could have used that to their advantage and have him continue to brag about it or something.
Disagree. By that point, fans were so fed up with Reigns that he was getting X-Pac heat. The best time to turn him heel would have been in the finals of the Survivor Series tournament after Rollins got injured. WWE was teasing the Authority, needing a new golden boy with Rollins out, tempting Reigns in the build-up to the PPV--so pull the trigger on that, give him the title, and then your storyline leading into next year's Mania would have been Ambrose (who got screwed in that match) vs Reigns for the championship.

the thing they should've done is just slowly build his character first, turn heel because for some reason when you're a heel you can cut actual good promos but you stick to yourself and express how you feel and not act like some superhero to kids , either that or roman can just go back to his phase in the shield where he was a silent badass
tbh, having Roman in Seth's place during the whole Authority Shtick could've been interesting. Behind the scenes They/Vince wanted him to be THE Top Guy, so having him in Seth's place would've used that mentality on screen.
Being a heel doesn’t mean you can suddenly cut good promos. It just means you’re able to insult just about anything and anyone, which people naturally find more interesting than a babyface promo in most cases
To anyone saying “look at what happened, clearly the answer was a heel turn” he said once the experiment failed, then yes you should turn him heel. But the origin point of everything going wrong was the shield break-up. And if you handle everything from the shield break-up point onwards differently, Roman can emerge from that over as a face.

I am going to cheer for Roman when he comes back. It is not his fault he got pushed to the edge of the Milky Way, or was given the line "suck up sell out full of suffering succotash, son." I think he really is capable of putting on good matches, and his mic work isn't bad either.

I still stand by this that I have been saying forever. The main reason for the whole backlash and refusal for Roman Reigns being THE guy was due to the Social Media Age. It was so easy to get on Twitter or other outlets and read article after article about how Reigns is being groomed to be the guy. Then you add a space on the internet for so many people to voice their opinions and all of a sudden the internet hates Roman and it became the cool thing to do, because everyone else does.
Roman Reigns keeping the shield gear and music puts me in mind of Sean Waltman's X-Pac character coming out to DX music wearing DX gear and doing DX taunts and moves for years after DX was long dead. Having a faction break up, but having one guy randomly keep the music and branding never works.
If this rebooking of Roman Reigns happened in real life along with Adam's rebooking of Dean's heel turn and the rebooking of the shield's breakup (from whatculture) - it would become the greatest pro wrestling story arc of all time
I know you’re asking Adam, but here’s mine: 1. Start with John face the audience in some way, kind of going off of what we just saw happen to him vs The Fiend. That is, where he had his entire character exposed. This allows the audience to potentially get behind a more “grounded” Cena character. 2. Build up a long term rivalry using...his longtime rival, Randy Orton. Randy has the mic skills and experience to give grounded Cena a slap in the face and say “listen, you may have been ‘the man’ and you buried talent but not all of it was fake and don’t let it end this way” or something like that. 3. In addition to Orton, have Cena go through both old and new wrestlers, but have him lose more often to show his age. And make the losses a bit more brutal, to make his victories all the more important. 4. Eventually culminate in a title match against...Orton? Fiend? Idk.

We need a follow up to this... How Adam would book "The Tribal Chief" Roman Reigns. Honestly it'd good as it is, but there are problems no one wants to admit. Firstly, Romans biggest feeling feuds have been vs part timers who fir the most part feel like they've no chance of beating him. Also, no one ever feels built up enough to have a half chance of beating him. Like perfect example was Finn Balor. Because WWE had Lesnar return and set up a feud with Roman, you knew that Balor would lose because Roman vs Brock was next, therefore you can't invest in Balor winning.
He needs a rebrand when he returns. He needs to drop the "Big Dog / My yard" schtik and replace it with something more organic and true to his own character. Keep the Spear but get a new finisher. Something more original with more impact and less explosiveness. Needs a unique submission too. He has none. Also needs to stop trying to play superhero. That "larger than life" image Just doesn't work as well anymore. Fans like relatable characters they feel they helped hoist up on that platform instead of having it choppered in. If it's not mysterious, supernatural, or outrageous in some way... Babyfaces gotta show that goals are obtainable without getting handed the top spots. That's a heel attribute. Egh..... The whole schtik needs changed. Just don't be a goddamn Roman gladiator or something for fuxake. Drop everything reminiscent of the Shield and go more Joe. Powerhouse, hungry, honest and friendly, relatable, don't overkill the leukemia thing... don't portray him as a victim. Don't tell the guy to remember a damn thing. It doesn't end well. Give him the mic and let Joe talk. Vince needs to quit treating the talent like his own personal action figures.
I'd argue we're well beyond fans feeling they played any part in the rise of Roman. His success is the cross he'll bare for his career. Might as well lean into that. I agree. Drop the Shield imagery. Come with a new finish too. Let him just have solid matches and sound like a badass on the mic.
He's a hero to the kids so I doubt they'll drop his "come back and win when all hope seems lost" shtick. Just like Cena and just like Hogan, it's too cookie cut and wears out fast for life long fans. I'm one of those fans that always hoped Reigns would find his own footing despite the fans hating him, I still have hope. But as you can see even Rollins and Ambrose are more respected by fans because of how they were allowed to turn heel or be an anti hero. But after the leukemia speech I don't think WWE is ever gonna book him into a position where people will hate him. He's doomed to forever be a Babyface or se sort of antihero but even as an antihero I doubt they'd push him to go after the right opponents with the right narrative. BUT I can totally see a narrative where he goes to NXT and pretty much acts like he owns the place. Because he's been the golden boy so now he's there to remind the golden brand why he's the (imma say it) big dog in wwe. It would give plenty of the faces a chance to shine with a big star, it will help him chance up his style and moveset, and if done right he can put over a lot of talent. Maybe then Vince would start using some of NXT probably if he watches them face his chosen guy.
I understand thst creative doesn't want him to lose the superhero persona with the kids but...usually kids don't lose interest in a superhero when they lose once or ten times. They keep following them for when they bounce back! And when he returns I think a rebranding will show something more closer to Joe than say, 2016 Roman Reigns. Without outright being Joe. And that's good for the kids because it allows them to see their superhero in a whole new way.
I've always been a fan of Roman. Trust me, It was/is one of the most annoying thing watching the WWE try to take a naturally cool performer like Reigns and just stuff him down people's throats so much that the performer gets nuclear heat for no fault of their own. Reigns is dynamite in the ring and a steady, dependable main event guy. Loved this Vid from you, Adam. Also loved how you get a bit gay for our vested big lad. Dont worry mate, whether we admit it or not, We've all been there.

People came to him with ideas and they worked out something together so Vince doesn't immediately shut down the pitches. Since I'm pretty sure that guy has long been gone, Vince has probably been running wild on the whole creative team for years

The thing that really gets me about Adam's bookings is that they don't feel like fan fiction. They feel like stories I'd actually like to see.

There are two kinds of people who dislike Roman. 1: those who hate him just cause he’s the “top guy”. And 2: those who were watching or were AT the 2015 royal rumble, And know why the boos still go on to this very day.
It's not even that, the reason why people dislike him is because vince mcmahon wants him to be THE main guy and face of the company so bad but it just doesn't work that way. Yes he's very good in the ring but there is somthing that lacks him to be the guy

Every angle he's in is so generic. The promos he cuts have zero emotion to them and he comes across as false. You watch one of his matches you've seen all of them. I've sat mumbling "drive by, superman punch, ooooo aaaaaaah, spear," under my breath moments before he does any of them. The commentary keeps TELLING me how awesome and strong and brave and that he's THE BIIIIIIIIIIIIG DAWG!!!! every time he's on camera. I should need to be told that constantly I should have been made to actually feel that about him organically and naturally.

Not just a beauty, but now a spoiled rich brat. But the twist is she's smart. Think about the Triple H/Goldberg fued. When Triple H finally dropped the title, he put a bounty on Goldberg. Lana could of easily done it, and why? She has motive. Lynch took Lana's spot in the Royal Rumble and we all know the rest. And you do this thing were its not just the basic faces of Raw attacking Lynch. Raw, SmackDown, even 1-off NXT appearances all attacking Becky. Then at SummerSlam the match happens. An injured Becky Lynch retains with one good arm.

Crazy how like You said WWE was insistent on pushing this "one guy" narrative when it's obvious their best ever run company wise was the attitude era were there were multiple organic "guys" Stone Cold, Roc, HHH, Undertaker, Kane, Angle...... None of them had to be forced down our throats. They organically became who they were and the company was better for it.
I think WWE has just given up on trying to replicate that success because, in their eyes, it's impossible. Much easier, in theory, to smash one guy over than to organically create 5 or more top stars.

Roman wins, then this sets off a constant barrage of animal themed matches against repackaged superstars as WWE slowly descends into madness.
They even reclaim the WWF (Wildlife Wrestling Fund) in order to promote the Big Dog going up against a pack of *actual* dogs.

I think because Zayn is such a heel right now it is going to take awhile to get back to baby face Zayn. You mentioned Reigns beating Rock which I’m guessing will be at WrestleMaina and that’s a great idea so by say SummerSlam next year we could have a fully face Zayn again if built properly. I don’t really like talking about Zayn though. He has so so much potential to be the biggest baby face since Bryan or Punk and WWE just didn’t know what to do with him. After he beat Owens at Battleground in 2016 which is one of the best main roster matches that decade he just got lost on the card and I felt bad for him. He should have gone to Smackdown in 2016 or at least beat the Miz at Survivor Series to move to Smackdown. Even when he moved there in 2017 they just didn’t know what to do and they turned him heel. I love him as a heel but he is so much better as a face.

Disagree. By that point, fans were so fed up with Reigns that he was getting X-Pac heat. The best time to turn him heel would have been in the finals of the Survivor Series tournament after Rollins got injured. WWE was teasing the Authority, needing a new golden boy with Rollins out, tempting Reigns in the build-up to the PPV--so pull the trigger on that, give him the title, and then your storyline leading into next year's Mania would have been Ambrose (who got screwed in that match) vs Reigns for the championship.

the thing they should've done is just slowly build his character first, turn heel because for some reason when you're a heel you can cut actual good promos but you stick to yourself and express how you feel and not act like some superhero to kids , either that or roman can just go back to his phase in the shield where he was a silent badass
tbh, having Roman in Seth's place during the whole Authority Shtick could've been interesting. Behind the scenes They/Vince wanted him to be THE Top Guy, so having him in Seth's place would've used that mentality on screen.

Being a heel doesn’t mean you can suddenly cut good promos. It just means you’re able to insult just about anything and anyone, which people naturally find more interesting than a babyface promo in most cases
To anyone saying “look at what happened, clearly the answer was a heel turn” he said once the experiment failed, then yes you should turn him heel. But the origin point of everything going wrong was the shield break-up. And if you handle everything from the shield break-up point onwards differently, Roman can emerge from that over as a face.
Excluding Roman from the aftermath of The Shield's dissolution was such a huge misstep.

I still stand by this that I have been saying forever. The main reason for the whole backlash and refusal for Roman Reigns being THE guy was due to the Social Media Age. It was so easy to get on Twitter or other outlets and read article after article about how Reigns is being groomed to be the guy. Then you add a space on the internet for so many people to voice their opinions and all of a sudden the internet hates Roman and it became the cool thing to do, because everyone else does.

I know you’re asking Adam, but here’s mine:
1. Start with John face the audience in some way, kind of going off of what we just saw happen to him vs The Fiend. That is, where he had his entire character exposed. This allows the audience to potentially get behind a more “grounded” Cena character.
2. Build up a long term rivalry using...his longtime rival, Randy Orton. Randy has the mic skills and experience to give grounded Cena a slap in the face and say “listen, you may have been ‘the man’ and you buried talent but not all of it was fake and don’t let it end this way” or something like that.
3. In addition to Orton, have Cena go through both old and new wrestlers, but have him lose more often to show his age. And make the losses a bit more brutal, to make his victories all the more important.
4. Eventually culminate in a title match against...Orton? Fiend? Idk.
When he does that, he's cocking his fist. Like a shotgun

You know what else moving away from the shield stuff for ALL of them would do? The obvious reunion at some point, massive pop for the music hit and the spotlight on the 3 guys standing up in the crowd in swat gear.
The worst part about the commentators pretending not to understand the booing I think came from Jerry Lawler (I wanna say it was him)
It was some show in Canada, and Roman was being booed, and he had the nerve to say (paraphrasing) "It's Canada! It's Opposite Land here!"

Lesnar vs Bryan would be a better story than the whole “Roman Reigns can’t beat Brock Lesnar” story that we got.
@@nyameleyefekaska2895 I think you're absolutely wrong. Roman Reigns was portrayed as a clean babyface and got jeered badly whereas Daniel Bryan was super over at the time - and he would've made the main event much better because the crowd would've been much more positive towards the match
With the Tribal Chief gimmick, this might be the first time WWE has booked someone better than Adam... It scares me.
He started the booking when the shield broke up in 2014. The tribal chief storyline could have still worked, even in this timeline

We need a follow up to this... How Adam would book "The Tribal Chief" Roman Reigns. Honestly it'd good as it is, but there are problems no one wants to admit. Firstly, Romans biggest feeling feuds have been vs part timers who fir the most part feel like they've no chance of beating him. Also, no one ever feels built up enough to have a half chance of beating him. Like perfect example was Finn Balor. Because WWE had Lesnar return and set up a feud with Roman, you knew that Balor would lose because Roman vs Brock was next, therefore you can't invest in Balor winning.
I like that even in fantasy booking Big Show still turns on a dime.
He needs a rebrand when he returns. He needs to drop the "Big Dog / My yard" schtik and replace it with something more organic and true to his own character. Keep the Spear but get a new finisher. Something more original with more impact and less explosiveness. Needs a unique submission too. He has none. Also needs to stop trying to play superhero. That "larger than life" image Just doesn't work as well anymore. Fans like relatable characters they feel they helped hoist up on that platform instead of having it choppered in. If it's not mysterious, supernatural, or outrageous in some way... Babyfaces gotta show that goals are obtainable without getting handed the top spots. That's a heel attribute. Egh..... The whole schtik needs changed. Just don't be a goddamn Roman gladiator or something for fuxake. Drop everything reminiscent of the Shield and go more Joe. Powerhouse, hungry, honest and friendly, relatable, don't overkill the leukemia thing... don't portray him as a victim. Don't tell the guy to remember a damn thing. It doesn't end well. Give him the mic and let Joe talk. Vince needs to quit treating the talent like his own personal action figures.
I'd argue we're well beyond fans feeling they played any part in the rise of Roman. His success is the cross he'll bare for his career. Might as well lean into that.
I agree. Drop the Shield imagery. Come with a new finish too. Let him just have solid matches and sound like a badass on the mic.
He's a hero to the kids so I doubt they'll drop his "come back and win when all hope seems lost" shtick. Just like Cena and just like Hogan, it's too cookie cut and wears out fast for life long fans. I'm one of those fans that always hoped Reigns would find his own footing despite the fans hating him, I still have hope. But as you can see even Rollins and Ambrose are more respected by fans because of how they were allowed to turn heel or be an anti hero. But after the leukemia speech I don't think WWE is ever gonna book him into a position where people will hate him. He's doomed to forever be a Babyface or se sort of antihero but even as an antihero I doubt they'd push him to go after the right opponents with the right narrative.
BUT I can totally see a narrative where he goes to NXT and pretty much acts like he owns the place. Because he's been the golden boy so now he's there to remind the golden brand why he's the (imma say it) big dog in wwe. It would give plenty of the faces a chance to shine with a big star, it will help him chance up his style and moveset, and if done right he can put over a lot of talent. Maybe then Vince would start using some of NXT probably if he watches them face his chosen guy.
I mean, say what you want about him, Reigns would NOT have the push he does if he wasn't moving merch. Success is measured in several layers
I understand thst creative doesn't want him to lose the superhero persona with the kids but...usually kids don't lose interest in a superhero when they lose once or ten times. They keep following them for when they bounce back! And when he returns I think a rebranding will show something more closer to Joe than say, 2016 Roman Reigns. Without outright being Joe. And that's good for the kids because it allows them to see their superhero in a whole new way.

Trust me,
It was/is one of the most annoying thing watching the WWE try to take a naturally cool performer like Reigns and just stuff him down people's throats so much that the performer gets nuclear heat for no fault of their own.
Reigns is dynamite in the ring and a steady, dependable main event guy.
