Looking down the camera while he says it hits different too. We as fans forgive heels for heinous acts all the time, because that's just what we do. We *have* to. Adam is a booking genius.
The old one was the "smartass" persona, which in a way symbolizes the hubris of fame that you can never go wrong. And he's already learned from that. So this new one, is coming from a humbled yet earnest individuality, learning from your past, doing something better for yourself, letting go of the hubris that you used to have. And that's wonderful!
If you really pay attention to some of the things he says, you can tell Adam from his Whatculture days could have never booked this. This was a story about understanding trauma, the effects it has on not only yourself but those around you. This is a story about forgiveness of haneous acts. Frankly, the moment when he looked down the camera as Dean and said "you'll forgive me, because you have to, " gave me chills. Cause that felt too real. I respect Adam's growth and journey. But if I'm honest, I think he booked this so well BECAUSE of it. He has probably seen himself as a dastardly monster. But he's also probably seen himself as someone who thought he couldn't be wrong because he was working for the right reasons. Respect
Vince would shoot down all these great ideas and instead insist on pooper scooper and vomit jokes. He doesn’t understand all this amazing nuance anymore.
@@YungEZ1 And that is sometimes the problem I have with Vince and his handling of the ideas from the writing team. Adam here makes Netflix and Fox worthy booking, Vince makes Cartoon Network worthy booking. Also, I understand WWE is a business first and foremost with moneymaking being the #1 goal, but I get the feeling that Vince kind of flushes all of the nuances that make a good story down the toilet and just insists on printing money out of the first thing that comes from a wrestler's mouth that sounds catchy (nickname or catchphrase)
This story seems TOO good for a pro wrestling show. I love the nuances, the twists, turns, and emotion regarding Dean Ambrose heel turn and the complexity of Ambrose's character. I felt like the title of the video was mis-titled in a way because is Dean Ambrose truly a heel or is he an anti-hero who has become broken because of tragedy to the point the character had to be gone and reborn into something else?
I feel like if they did this, Ambrose could be considered truly broken compared to Matt Hardy. He's been broken and went into a bunch of creative ideas. Ambrose on the other hand, would be broken. Truly broken. 𝙋𝙍𝙊𝙋𝙀𝙍𝙇𝙔 broken from circumstances beyond his control that forced him into AEW not as old Jon Moxley from CZW. As Adam said, a new Jon Moxley. A dangerous Jon Moxley. A desperate and savage man
I got a similar feeling listening to this, it's actually too sophisticated for pro-wrestling, certainly WWE. It's a fantastic story with a REALLY good, powerful message but it's not what people expect or want from a wrestling promotion. You can blur the lines, should in fact to write great wrestling, but the interactive nature of wrestling with a crowd to (ideally) create a rock concert type atmosphere makes feuds like this, so emotionally charged with such a sympathetic heel, very challenging to work as intended. It's a wrestling based story that belongs in a drama, not within the fictional wrestling universe.
I think he's a sympathetic villain in this booking scenario. You can understand why he did what he did but it doesn't make what he did any less evil. But those scenarios when done right can lead to compelling storytelling
Hey Adam , He debuted coming out of hell He ripped the front door of the cell He teamed with taker , fought with taker Torrie warmed his baby maker He learned to speak the big Red freak Then a champion for less than a week Now his Outlook got much better Royal rumble record setter Smiling patriotic looni Then a godamn kane a rooni Katie Vick. ..... Man the part where Dean is begging for Seth to fight him while sobbing almost made me shed a tear. This definitely is my favorite Fantasy Booking video by far.
How Adam would book: Special RAW hosts. How Adam would book: Shinsukes heel turn. How Adam would book: Shane vs Miz. Any of these would be fun (for me at least) Edit: I had another idea. How Adam would book: A possible UE breakup.
I've gotta say, Adam's emotional maturity impresses me, because he helps explain feelings I have about matches but have yet to formulate a coherent way to express. Adam has a sensitivity to issues, that's not only comforting, but helps me to understand a lot of my own emotions. Thank you so much, for illuminating these things that elude me otherwise. I had seen the light go out of Dean's eyes when I had seen that skit-thing, and was so confused. But y'all's perspective really helps me sort it out. Thanks for helping me understand the feely things that had made me wonder why I was so affected. Honestly, almost cried in empathy a few times in this video.
Same. Hope you're doing well, or at least ok in the 3 years since you left this comment. You're right, Adam is very astute and sensitive and emotionally-intelligent to articulate the feelings so well. The explanation of Dean's emotional state from 13:35 to 15:11 is a very similar place that I've been in myself, for longer than I'd like to admit. Don't really know how to get over it (tried counselling/therapy, hasn't really helped), I've just learned to live alongside the grief.
This was some of Adam's greatest booking When he describes that match between Reigns and Ambrose I could feel the emotions I would have felt had that match actually happened
*Govardhan Posina* Yes. I felt it deeply. This man is a national treasure. WWE should watch all videos of him doing a better booking than all those FAILURES in the "creative" team.
I remember at the time thinking the motivation was so clear when the turn happened. Dean had always been an angry violent person who solved every problem with his fists (moreso than even the average wrestler). But here was a problem he couldn't punch. He can't DDT cancer and pin it for 3 seconds. He can't do ANYTHING about it. And he doesn't know what else to do. He sees Seth is in the same position. They're lost and powerless. So Dean, largely subconsciously, but maybe being just aware enough of what he's doing, makes it make sense. He makes himself the villain, because he understands that. He can be the bad guy, Seth can be the good guy, and they can punch each other. It makes sense. That's how it's supposed to work. And as long as they can keep punching each other, neither of them have to think about what's REALLY going on. If you want to get really meta about it, reality has become too painful, so he looses himself in kayfabe. Even the hypochondriac stuff can work if you do it right. Between Roman and his own near-death experience, why WOULDN'T he be on edge about his health? But go meta with that too. Make it explicitly clear that he's covering up this very real fear he has with a big silly wrestling gimmick. He's retreating further and further into "wrestling" because its the only thing he understands anymore.
I read the whole situation as Dean trying to burn bridges because he was emotionally destroyed. The Shield made him weak because in his mind he viewed his brotherhood as a weakness. He had just come back from injury and a nearly fatal staff infection and now he’s back to just being another hound of justice. Still being regarded as a lunatic. He wants to take the past burn it down and start a new. And ya I do agree that the Germaphobe stuff maybe could’ve worked. It just should’ve been in the direction of life is precious and I’m not wasting time anymore.
When Dean went on Chris Jericho's podcast, he mentioned that Vince did want to continue playing off of Roman's cancer announcement, but that he didn't want to say the stuff that was written. I do understand that using raw emotion in storytelling is often needed, but in this case, I think it hit to close to home with Dean and his friendship with Roman.
The thing is, Vince wanted Dean to say horrible things about Roman's cancer to draw heat. Adam wants Dean to say realistic things about Roman's cancer to make his character sympathetic
@@tafua_a 100% guaranteed there would have been something about how the problem with Romans cancer was it was black, with a significant enough pause to make it sound worse.
@@Zack_410 I've said this before, but Randy Orton is good at playing characters who would say this. While MJF is better at being a complete jerk and Charlotte is great at being the 'tall poppy', Randy Orton is good at mixing pure cunning and venomous hate that gives him the nickname of the Viper. Dean Ambrose would just be too good of a person to do that stuff, but Randy can actually be that malevolent.
Seeing Ambrose vs. Reigns at Wrestlemania in a proper as Adam said “I’m sorry, I love you” match would’ve been amazing. Just imagining that final moment when Roman is about to spear Dean Ambrose for the final time and you seen the tears/emotion in Roman’s face right before he sends out of WWE
I honestly don't believe WWE is capable of this type of storytelling. Whether it be laziness, incompetence or both, I don't think they could've pulled off something with this depth. Great job, smartass! *Ding* Only thing I'd change is that since Anderson and Gallows were on Smackdown at the time, AOP can be in Finn's Club. He always wanted to team with them anyways.
My guess is that the reason the storytelling is horrendous these days is because there’s such a massive team of writers and they have to sift through so many details and try to make multiple people happy without “offending people” in the audience. I had similar experiences working in a gym trying to promote creative things.
@@dizzyparkermusic Or try to make One man Happy because it has been recorded many times how they are writing for Vince, not the audience. Writing for the audience is far easier than writing for Vince.
DGMC I think them switching brands would be completely fine, they weren’t doing anything on Smackdown at the time anyways and I guarantee a large portion of people wouldn’t even notice the brand switch.
The best part of this booking video is absolutely the ending to the Three Stages of Hell match, with Seth losing the battle but winning the war by saying "I quit". That finish would be one of the best moments of booking in WWE history if it had happened.
Good lord, this is absolutely emotional. I was expecting something intense but not this intense. In a perfect world, this would be the sendoff. You've done it again, Adam. If I could give a million stars for this, I would.
I like how heel ambrose wasn't just evil but was an extremely tormented person who can't get over the past. It makes his turn to the dark side believable
How Adam Would Book: Finn Balor's return. Finn has always felt like a next level star, and it feels like WWE knew it, but then...kinda forgot it. He won the universal title right after being called up, but got hurt. Then he finally came back and it was like they forgot how cool he is. Give the Demon the fantasy run he deserves Adam!
Honestly? He should have returned and won the chamber (make it raw ppv) and challenged owens for the title at Mania. In sensible straight forward booking. I know Adam can do it better
my idea, turn him heel, it makes sense. He would be on a mega ego trip (he did in one month what some people take years to achieve if they ever do), he didn't even lose his belt, and he was injured for months. Put him in a rivalry with Rollins because of the injury, and have them become a huge problem as both are beating each other to a pulp, carry it down to Summerslam, with Balor winning, he tries to finish Rollins for good before Ambrose (who was also a victim of Balor) runs down and makes the save, before Balor beats him at the next PPV, this can set up the shield reunion, and give Balor some high profile wins. Kurt Angle tries to get him into Survivor Series for team but Balor refuses (it's not worth it), and instead faces Chad Gable (Kurt's Son) when he's forced into it. Balor enters the rumble at number one at the direction of Kurt Angle (since Balor refuses to compete on Raw if it's not for a belt, so Angle allows him to take time off, but in exchange Balor has to enter at 1, Balor accepts because of overconfidence. Balor finishes second to Nakamura but manages to eliminate Rollins who finishes third. Balor wins the chamber match (Balor, Rollins, Reigns, Miz, Joe, and Zayn), and advances to Wrestlemania to face Braun Strowman (who is undefeated, and took to belt of Brock at No Mercy and retained at Royal Rumble). Balor brings out the demon and gives Strowman his first loss, and wins his Universal title back, before holding onto it until Summerslam, where he drops it to Rollins, who finally gets his win over Balor. At this point, Ambrose makes his return for Summerslam and attacks Rollins, kickstarting their rivalry (Ambrose's injury and near death is motivation since Ambrose feels he's on borrowed time, and needs to make every moment count), which carries onto mania. Ambrose and Rollins finish with Rollins winning and sending Ambrose packing, and Balor beats Brock Lesnar before going to Smackdown. thoughts.
Nope after he got injured after he won the universal title immediately after coming up from NXT Vince was done with him. The one thing Vince hates is injury prone wrestlers.
Wonderfully comedic moments, but a story so good that it made me tear up a bit. The gold streak in the hair, the “I Quit” match ending, Roman’s return, Dean’s betrayal, and the ending to the Roman match genuinely give me chills. Thank you, Adam.
Bro this booking is PERFECTION! Too bad wwe creative is no where near capable of doing anything like this. Hence, why they are loosing fans by the thousands now
Just imagining this whole scenario of how Adam did.. Almost put a tear in my eyes .if WWE would have done this than man, wm 35 would have been really really emotional
Can you imagine the pop Roman would get returning unannounced and saying he’s in remission? Like imagine the pop when Ambrose is calling out Rollins and then Reigns music hits. Chills just thinking about it
I really love the "How Adam Would Book..." series, but this one has to have been the best one I have ever watched. I remember watch WWE when all of what really happened, happened, but now I wish that things played out exactly the way you listed. In my opinion, your version would have been a much better story that the crap they feed us as Dean was on his way out.
How would Adam book EC3? How would Adam book “The Chosen One” Drew McIntyre? How would Adam book “The Monday Night Messiah” Seth Rollins? How would Adam book “Glorious” Bobby Roode?
These videos are about individual feuds/storylines, not someone's entire career. That would take an insane amount of time. I would maybe consider something like "EC3's WWE debut", "Drew McIntyre post-3MB", "Bobby Roode's main roster call up", etc.
As someone who has watched multiple family members struggle with cancer I really appreciate the respect you gave to the emotions and feelings you experience when you face that.
This is by far my favorite fantasy booking, the way Adam said "you don't get to erase the person you used to be" gave me chills for real, good job mate
I thought the next "How Adam Would Book" video would be about Shinsuke Nakamura. Also, like if you think the next "How Adam Would Book" video should be about Shinsuke Nakamura.
I love how invested I get into these videos, Adam really has a way of making his angles feel like it’s really happening. When Adam said that once Dean was tagged in he Dirty Deeds Roman, I legitimately popped. It such a great swerve for a really awesome story
This was infinitely better than any writer that WWE could have or in this case actually came up with. Actually that’s not fair... this is better than anything Vince McMahon came up with. I fully believe the writers are actually talented and very creative, just none of their ideas get approved.

Recently I read an essay that talked about why wrestling is great, and part of its point was that wrestling is simplistic. It’s easy and basic and to many will seem trite and crass and juvenile. And yeah, I suppose to some degree that’s true, it’s not high art and sometimes that’s for the better. But thank you Adam for reminding me how wrestling always has the capacity to be more, to tap into real genuine human emotion through the connection that the fans can have with these real people who are on our TV screens. Your work may be fantasy, but that doesn’t mean it’s not incredible.
This came at such a good time, I broke my collar bone in an MMA fight and I’m out for at least 3 months and might even need surgery, and Adam I want to thank you personally for making this shitty day better 💜.
That was beautiful. The story, the setup, the booking, the emotion, the way everything connected was probably better than anything I or any of us could have done in booking the end of Dean Ambrose's WWE run. I especially liked how real it felt in regards to the way these characters are presented in this emotional personal conflict and how in a way all of this can relate to the way we live our lives, especially with what you said at parts like 14:05 and 28:57 those are things that we probably need to hear in these troubling times and all the crazy things happening in the world right now. Well done Adam. Stay safe!
How Adam would book: Ciampa going to the main roster. I know he doesn’t want to go to the main roster and I know they probably wouldn’t book him well but I think if they were to book him correctly he would be incredible on the main roster.
Genuinely love this series, and this might be my favourite. The best thing about these booking videos is that it’s not just “let’s put two good wrestlers in a ring and have a good match”, its using the characters and the history to create a story that even with an average match would have us all glued to our screens. This one is a genuine pull at the heartstrings, that plays with the balance of real and kayfabe, that uses the history of the characters as fuel, and a perfect sendoff for Dean Ambrose as a character.
This is an exceptional episode highlighting Adam's talent & passion for intense & important storytelling, crafting stoies with deep emotional/ personal stakes, continued build & ultimate resolution that benefits the characters for years to come & blows away the minds of fans everywhere as it unfolds. Tears of joy for these videos! Thank you, Adam! 😃
How Adam would book: Cesaro after WM30 How Adam would book: Samoa Joe Ec3 and Robert Roode main roster debut How Adam would book: John Cena road to redemption in 2013 How Adam would book: Bray Wyatt wwe championship reign How Adam would book if he could do TNA: Aces and eights, Fortune, and Immortal if possible
For aces and eights it was great up to the end where it was a mess I loved bully ray as the leader made lots of good talents but the ending was jumbled
Touching on the subject of how to book a wrestler who will soon be leaving your company, let's compare 2 different ways to go about it... The WWE way: Use that wrestler poorly and make him look as bad as possible on his way out. The wrestler ends up with the competition and wrestling fans think to themselves "here's a wrestler that has more potential than he was allowed to show, I am curious to see if he can thrive in this new environment". The Adam way: Use the talent to the full extent of their ability and give him a feud people will talk about for ages. The wrestler then goes over to the competition and wrestling fans think to themselves "that's a great signing, but there's no way that this company can provide him a feud as good as the one he just wrapped up with the other company". Tell me which way would be more effective if you were the biggest wrestling company on the planet looking to undermine the chances of your competition to gain steam...
I think a third option also is possible to happen. Everything you said in option 2, but with an added notion that the wrestler DOES get another chance in the new place. It actually happens more times than you think it does. When people come from PWG, Stardom, New Japan, All Japan, Noah, Impact, ROH, CMLL, AAA or wherever...and put on amazing feuds/matches in those companies that are fondly praised/remembered by the fans in the know. Then the go to WWE(specifically NXT), and do the same there...happens alot more than it doesn't. Hell they could, even go back to where they originally came from in the first place, and remind the fans how amazing (and underutilized by Vince McMahon) they truly are...it happens all the time.
I think WWE actually do it to make an example out of wrestlers leaving for another promotion. If they did it Adam's way, it's almost like they're rewarding people for leaving. Then everyone on the card who is desperate for a push can just threaten to leave so they can get a good angle.
When he said it’s a proper “I’m sorry I love you moment” I pictured it in my head how it would go down here. “ I’ll always love you brother” and boom he hits the spear
I find this booking quite relatable. I had a bad falling out with someone I used to be friends with. And, I was SO angry with for SO long. And, admittedly. I still feel that anger toward them. So, hearing a story like this was beautiful (I actually meant to put this comment up much sooner)
Should've been simple: My best friend's sick. The friend that has stuck by me no matter what, unlike you. My best friend is sick... It should've been you. Ride this blood feud until WM. It's Seth vs Brock, the ref takes a bump and Roman walks out. Dean comes out a few moments later. Roman hugs Seth, Dean seeing this let's all of his hate go. They triple powerbomb Lesnar and Seth wins.
Thank you so much Adam. I had been waiting for a Dean Ambrose heel turn for ages when he was still with the company and they didn't just butcher it, they ran it over several times with a truck before blowing it up with a tank and to make sure it was dead, they nuked it.
This booking actually made me emotional. I LOVED the Shield and Ambrose was my favorite of the three. WWE pushing him out the door is a big reason why I'm not watching as much wrestling anymore, because I was heartbroken by him leaving. This booking would have been the perfect sendoff for his character, a fitting end to his WWE career.
I love how these videos are consistent with each other, wish there existed a good wrestling simulator so there could be a Machinima of the Adam Cinematic Universe
The Three Stages of Hell match described here is one of the few times that I will say that getting color is 100% necessary for the story. During the I Quit portion, where Adam says it just gets ugly in the violence, both Dean and Seth need to get color. It makes the violence uglier, and also feeds into Seth's emotions at the end: "Look at us. We have one another's blood on our hands. This *has* to end."
I honestly feel like this might be one of the best stories you've ever done. It honestly felt very personal at some points too. Also, I would genuinely have their I quit match go full CZW levels. Make it horrific. Make it honestly hard to stomach and watch. The emotion warrants it in this case. It should feel NOTHING like a clean WWE product. As for bookings I'd like to see, I'd like to see a lot. A Sami Zayn face turn. Sami Zayn on the main roster in 2016-17 (One of the most underutilised stars in WWE) Bray Wyatt the cult leader in WWE Raven in WWF DDP in the WWF
I can imagine Ambrose screaming into the mic, almost breaking down, holding back tears with so much anger inside him Desperately shouting "You don't get to make this choice Seth"
July 17, 2020: Adam says WWE should have booked Dean Ambrose in an I Quit match on PPV. October 21, 2020: AEW books Jon Moxley in an I Quit match on PPV.
Hands down one of the best bookings Adam has done. Sends an amazing message that some people forget and especially WWE forgets. Trauma doesn't end through matches, it takes time and willingness to end.
I actually caught onto Balor Club as soon as he said Finn. I'm surprised with myself lmao Edit: I like this Adam Extended Universe and how you stick to it.
The only thing I really take issue with is the notion that Dean never forgave Seth. Their 2017 reunion is one of if not my favorite WWE storylines of the past decade (thanks Jimmy Jacobs!) and I feel like Dean reconciling with Seth was more for his own peace of mind and accepting that he still loves Seth, despite everything. He never stopped loving Seth, as much as he may have wanted to. I headcanon that his injury happening at the height of the Shield reunion, and subsequently almost dying, alone in some hospital bed, while Roman and Seth were off being successful bothering to call him or check up on him even once made him cynical. When he comes back he walls himself off emotionally because he internalizes that the 3 of them aren't who they used to be, they've moved on, become different people, that they're better off not trying to relive the glory days. Maybe Seth's betrayal is a bit of a sore subject but it's not something fixated on? idk, I just don't want the 2017 story invalidated hahaha Sorry for the tl;dr, the Shield are very near and dear to me and I could ramble forever about their character arcs ;-;
They throw each other around like a pair of big beefy boys. After 25 mins Lesnar goes for an F5. Lee counters into a spirit bomb. Adam wipes down his trouser accident. Goes to the ring. Keith Lee proposes. They marry there and then with Oli Davis as the bridesmaid
Simple: My best friend is sick, it should've been you. Seth you turn your back on me at every chance, and Roman has always stuck by me. It should've been you.
You simpleminded fans don’t understand the genius that is Dean Ambrose becoming a germophobe. It’s writing in its best form. Your idea is simply radical

Bro, when he said “...And that’s when Roman Reigns returns”, I felt that throughout my entire body.

You’re quite sensitive
@@alexdelarge703 you say that like it’s a bad thing

Couldn't put it any better mate.
*Andrew Power* Profound comment, man.
Wow dude, the "forgive me" promo gave me chills. What an incredible idea.

When Dean went on Chris Jericho's podcast, he mentioned that Vince did want to continue playing off of Roman's cancer announcement, but that he didn't want to say the stuff that was written. I do understand that using raw emotion in storytelling is often needed, but in this case, I think it hit to close to home with Dean and his friendship with Roman.
knowing Vince it was in poor taste, like when they had Randy say Eddie is in hell 😠
The thing is, Vince wanted Dean to say horrible things about Roman's cancer to draw heat. Adam wants Dean to say realistic things about Roman's cancer to make his character sympathetic

I honestly don't believe WWE is capable of this type of storytelling. Whether it be laziness, incompetence or both, I don't think they could've pulled off something with this depth. Great job, smartass! *Ding*
Only thing I'd change is that since Anderson and Gallows were on Smackdown at the time, AOP can be in Finn's Club.

You could also make the argument that a wrestler coming off a hot angle like that would be more valuable and draw more attention

Idk, colour would have seemed a tad distasteful in this instance, given Roman's illness.
Tbf the 2016 Survivor Series was good

the only bad match on that card was Zayn vs. Miz, and that wasn't either wrestler's fault.

Desperately shouting "You don't get to make this choice Seth"
Fun fact: dean was intended to be romans first wrestlemania defense as champion
They were supposedly planning on having dean take the title off Roman before he got sick and before Ambrose made it known that he was leaving.
I'd love to see how Adam would have booked Finn Balor's injury return run (after forfeiting the Universal strap)
I'm surprised with myself lmao
Edit: I like this Adam Extended Universe and how you stick to it.
The only thing I really take issue with is the notion that Dean never forgave Seth. Their 2017 reunion is one of if not my favorite WWE storylines of the past decade (thanks Jimmy Jacobs!) and I feel like Dean reconciling with Seth was more for his own peace of mind and accepting that he still loves Seth, despite everything. He never stopped loving Seth, as much as he may have wanted to. I headcanon that his injury happening at the height of the Shield reunion, and subsequently almost dying, alone in some hospital bed, while Roman and Seth were off being successful bothering to call him or check up on him even once made him cynical. When he comes back he walls himself off emotionally because he internalizes that the 3 of them aren't who they used to be, they've moved on, become different people, that they're better off not trying to relive the glory days. Maybe Seth's betrayal is a bit of a sore subject but it's not something fixated on? idk, I just don't want the 2017 story invalidated hahaha
Sorry for the tl;dr, the Shield are very near and dear to me and I could ramble forever about their character arcs ;-;
THIS.
How Adam would book keith lee vs brock Lesnar
Big boys , big beef , beef beef
They throw each other around like a pair of big beefy boys. After 25 mins Lesnar goes for an F5. Lee counters into a spirit bomb. Adam wipes down his trouser accident. Goes to the ring. Keith Lee proposes. They marry there and then with Oli Davis as the bridesmaid
When I imagined your version of the story I actually felt the emotions.
Simple: My best friend is sick, it should've been you.
Seth you turn your back on me at every chance, and Roman has always stuck by me. It should've been you.
Ziggler: It should've been me!
You simpleminded fans don’t understand the genius that is Dean Ambrose becoming a germophobe. It’s writing in its best form. Your idea is simply radical
Pow3rh0use hahahahah
As soon as Adam mentioned that this storyline should be a continuation of 2014 break up I liked it
Wow this was a surprise, two booking video in one month!!!👏
ADAM: You never know when they'll land. Everyone should have their notifications on, JUST IN CASE
