SRO announced that there'll be a new GTWC Europe Endurance Cup round next year that will be hosted at.... Jeddah.
Welp it's now becoming a reality that Jeddah will host a 1000km endurance round of GTWC Europe next year. (Not sure why an European GT Series hosted a round in Middle East but ngl the prospect of watching Jeddah under the sunlight is very tough to just skip)
Why Europe, when GT World Challenge Asia exists? That would be better, geographically-speaking, and a nice variety boost, as Japanese tracks dominate the current GT World Challenge Asia calendar.
Maybe the Baku F1 Circuit will become one of those videos in the very, very distant future. I am not too convinced anymore whether it's a good F1 track. The snoozefests (2016, 2019, 2021 until Stroll's tyreblowout, 2022, 2023) start to overweigh the good races (2017, 2018, 2021 final three laps) 😅
Honestly any track I can just enjoy watching a solo car go around is a track I like. Baku is one of the very few left on the F1 calendar that is exciting to watch an onboard of. (Besides Spa, Zandvoort and Monaco)
This video came up in my recommended page, and it brought back some nice memories - I used to work in motorsport journalism, and one of my first writing gigs involved being the Blancpain GT Series editor/writer for a startup magazine back in 2014. Not only did that mean I got media access to the Sprint Series round at my home circuit of Brands Hatch, but also meant I watched and covered the 2014 Baku race mentioned here! I remember it being quite a funky circuit, a nice mix of fast wide sections and tighter technical parts, a challenge but still capable of putting on good racing - and compared to the earlier layouts, you're right, it was WAY better. I'd be curious to see a full overlay of the first circuit layout with the current F1 track layout - I get a bit geeky about street circuit layouts, I blame Gran Turismo xD TL:DR though - awesome video!

Of the tracks in this series, this is so far the one I'm most surprised to learn existed I think the current F1 layout is my favorite however I wonder if the castle section is too thin for certain types of cars (basically non-single-seaters) I also wonder what a Baku E-Prix at the second layout would have been like, and if it could have been a calendar staple for Formula E, preventing Baku from doing the same thing for Formula 1.
I would absolutely love a video about the AVUS in Berlin Germany wich was a great Circuit in its day but failed in the modern times and is long gone now althoug defenetly not forgotten. Atleast in germany Keep this series going. Absolutely amazing videos and i love it
Excellent video as always. I love this era of GT3 racing. I just wish there were Porsche/Ferrari’s of the era GT3’s for assetto corsa. In the meantime, I’d love to see the Blancpain series (yes, it will always be Blancpain to me) attack the F1 track
I would like to see how F1 cars would do at this Baku, the first bustop would have been a sight to see getting the current F1 cars through especially on the first lap or after a restart and seeing the cars go through the non-existent chicane. That could have been slightly too dangerous especially with how bad the barriers were at the track. I think a good track to do is the old Marrakech street track that was used in WTCC and F2.
I don't think that F1 would work at that layout. Would be a cool sight seeing them go round though. Marrakesh may feature in this series at some point.
You can literally make a full series of lost/failed FE circuits. You can also do a video on the Birmingham (UK) street circuit and the Halifax street circuit.
i don’t watch f1. but here’s something. when will their fans stop blaming race tracks for boring races and maybe look toward their cars? or do fans simply expect too much from races, leading to them labelling 95% of their races “boring”?

Perhaps it's rather short tenure may have had something to do with that. I completely forgot about this track as well until I started doing this series.

I´d honestly like to hear your opinion on the Berlin Avus (in its last DTM iteration perhaps, the 1930´s Version is just mental by design) Maybe thats because I live in Berlin, and see the abandoned grandstands all the time...
I feel like this circuit would be perfect for TCR World Tour (2014 version, of course), but sadly I can't see that happening, not as long as F1 races at Baku
It was watching the 2013 race, that made me think Baku would be a good track for F1, with a few changes. Shame they made a new layout, but I do think the GP layout is better than these 3, but it’s sad that the GT cars never used the 2014 layout again. Looking at the 2012 layout, it looks very Formula E to me.
Never been a fan of Baku, but the video does remind me of how much worse it used to be. Still, it's nice seeing how they never gave up on the track to make continuous improvements year after year (at what cost to the local economy?) until the current F1 circuit. I consider it one of the better street tracks in the world today and would watch a dozen Baku races over something like Monaco.
I’m fond of the final layout honestly (as someone who hasn’t driven it) I’d say for F1 to give it a try but they’re too massive probably. Lower tiers, other categories? Probably fine.
The unfortunate part is for anyone to use the old circuit F1 would have to stop using the current one, which isn't likely to happen as they bring in the most money and when F1 leaves a location they usually don't move to a different course...
baku f1 circuit thrives only with chaos, there genuenly wasn't a really good race without chaos and crashes. But seemingly that's what F1 wants for now, so I don't think they'll be getting rid of it anytime soon (also they just signed a contract extension). However I'd take GT3s at the layout they last raced on 1000 times over F1 racing there tbh.
I personally think that F1 should stay away from Azerbaijan completely. But F1 doesn't exactly play the "stay away from countries with a bad human rights situation"-game very well.
There's something about GT cars on street tracks. Really wish there are plans to get one street race in the GT World Challenge Europe in the coming years. Zandvoort is an awful track for anything bigger than F3, replace that.

It really should be "honored" with a video. Baku only ever produced good entertainment when cars got together.

Honestly I really liked the 2014 layout, was much better than even the current F1 layout, was very exciting to watch the cars lap that layout.
I thought the 2014 layout was pretty good. Certainly, an improvement on the year prior.

As much as I like the track, yea it's too narrow. The bridge and the stadium are cool points, just need to widen it out a bit
