    The problem is not to fine the tempo, the problem is to find 1 and keep track when the song changes it

    Although I dance On2 with the syncopated timing ( 8&1-2-3 / 4&5-6-7), I found your remark that the pause ( 8&1 or 4&5) is actually the same duration as the break and rock-back steps quite a revelation - for me that's two eighth notes and a quarter note followed by two quarter notes for the first half of the basic and one measure of music, then idem for the second half of the basic and a second measure of music. Cool!

    I completely agree with the comment below. The tricky part is finding the 1. Would be great if you could provide a few examples on how to find the 1. Many videos on TH-cam focus on the tempo but, not many show you how to find the 1.

    Thank you for this explanation, which gives hope to those of us who find sticking to the rhythm difficult, and dancing offbeat easy!😂 It's a big problem. I had a terrible experience once when the lady I was with on the dancefloor stopped, because I was offbeat 😂☹ I think you made your hand clapping exercises too easy, because I got them right😂 I hope you're not going to say that we shouldn't bother learning salsa moves if we find sticking to the rhythm a problem! Anyway, thanks for the video, which has helped me already by identifying and discussing the rhythm problem. PS finally, regarding the pause at beat 4 and 8 which is not normally a step. I'm sure I've seen, and in fact know, moves, including shines where something is done on either beat 4 or 8, or indeed both.

      Yes these beats can be used for shines… just have to aware where u are in time;) as for being off beat sometimes do you tend to go faster or sometimes u slow down and lag a tad being try to figure it out and let me know

      @@SalsaBailaProductions thanks for taking the trouble to ask. It's been nearly two years since I was on the dancefloor, but I do recall that sometimes I felt I had to slow down, and sometimes to speed up. And of course we were always told that keeping your steps small enabled you to speed up for faster music. But when I looked at our dance teachers, they made everything look unrushed and relaxed!

      @@SalsaBailaProductions I suspected and dreaded you would suggest that! I've been sent to the bottom of the class 🤣 I'll have a look. Or I may just think positive and believe that I don't have a rhythm problem and be cured automatically 😂

    I dont have ear to music. And honestly I dont understand how clapping can help. If dance wrongly I clap wrongly too. Adore dancing but never was good at dancing just because I cant heat rythm. Im like a music invalid though I paint very bad too.

      Yeah - I had the same question. If I can’t find the rhythm to dance - how do I find the rhythm to clap?
      Isn’t it the same rhythm?
      I am a musician for 40 years - playing different genres, but when I watch the video with clapping , I can’t tell how the claps are related to the music. There doesn’t seem to be any sound or beat from any instrument that happens at the same time as the clap.

  • @pcjthe1
    @pcjthe1 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good idea..but...can you remove/lower the actual sound of your clap? It is very hard to hear the actual music beat (drum or what have you) as your clap sound hides it. Much better to see the hand action and match it to a sound from the music.

    The issue I see is that the leads don't notice that the one has a slightly bigger punch than five. And so they start on five.
    Also a lot of the leads don't like it when I point out that we aren't on the right beat.

    • @SalsaBailaProductions
      @SalsaBailaProductions  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In sum i agree… in some salsa theres not much on1… often singers dont start to sing exactly on1… hearing the one is the hardest thing to teach… some hear or feeling it better than others… i never understood why;)

      @@SalsaBailaProductionsin two years of Salsa lessons I have never once managed to ‘find the 1’.
      Don’t know what is wrong with me - clearly some sort of psychological block that I can’t hear it.
      It’s difficult in any dance music, even ball room, but impossible for salsa.
      Very demoralising - but I still keep holding some hope that one day I will be able to experience what it’s like to enjoy dancing like the people I watch.

      @@SalsaBailaProductions sorry if my comment makes me sound ungrateful for all of TH-camr's hard work putting out great content. Viewers time has been squeezed by TH-cam's incessant commercials and forcing content providers to sell stuff on their channels just to make a nickel. My suggestion is to do a very brief intro get to some content and then talk about liking and subscribing.
      After watching 10 videos from the same creator, we've heard the same thing repeating for 20-30 minutes. Thanks!😘
