      Those old corners are crazy - I can't imagine how many warranty payouts they did with the corner being a hole, basically.

    Wow after just reading the first few comments I can see that a lot of professionals are here. If so professional why are they watching a 10 year old install video one may ask. I would put money on the fact that most of these professionals don’t know how to spell Schluter

      Let me give you a tip about any and all professionals, they never stop learning… they’ll watch a whole video just to get a tiny bit of new info they’ve never heard of before

    Schluter. Kinda worth it. But I still build them in mortar. But I consider these almost as good at 1/3 the labor and time.

    This product is supposed to be waterproof? I'm sure it is if done properly? What puzzles me is it is applied with unmodified thinset. What is thinset mixed with? Water. Applying this thinset to drywall without some kind of rain gard just doesn't make sense to me? You're still applying moisture to unprotected drywall?

    Didn't butter the under side of the drain, to support it. Looks like if you stepped on it, it would go down even further.

    I’m still using mortar bed the old way to do it . I don’t know if this new system is 100% no leak

    Can you use modified thinset to put the Kerdi on over the pan and the inside corners and border strips? I used unmodified to put the pan down over my plywood floor I just wasn’t sure on the other stuff. Ty

      you did the two things backwards
      unmodified fro the membrane and modified for the pan to wood

    • @duganfr
      @duganfr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They spec unmodified due to the lack of breathability of the membrane. Modified wouldn't cure properly. What I was told when I inquired about this years ago.

    Supposed to sponge the subfloor before burning in the thinset.

      Not an issue given how loose his mortar is.

    if the curb is foam...how do you screw a glass frame or glass "Stand-offs" to it. Screws won't hold in foam very well. I would not trust glass attached to foam. Also, how come the "pan" piece of kurdi is on top of the corner pieces and Kurdi banding. Shouldn't the pan floor be put in first, then the wall banding, and then the corner pieces over that.

      Their website says the curb will support glass doors & glass blocking - www.schluter.com/schluter-us/en_US/faq/shower-system-kerdishower-curb-weight-support

      Glass is usually just siliconed to curb and screwed to wall.

    • @lciummo1
      @lciummo1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For frameless door mounting, you need to stack wood 2x4 to form the curb, then place the U shaped upside down kerdi curb over that wood, secured with mortar, then waterproof with the membrane.

    He didn’t use the proper shingling method in applying tape and corners. He should have done lower corner first , then corner Kerdi to lap over. This is natural shingling .

    • @gbear67
      @gbear67 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, shingling would also force you to do your floor first and wait for it to dry.

    Hi since thin set is not waterproof, I didn't see you seal the seams, a lot of seams and 4 corners. These will fail about 5 to 10 years in the future.

      @@Regg363 yes thinset is not waterproof but the waterproofing band is. That's why its a waterproofing system. Go pick up a TCNA handbook and read some literature.
