- SVG picked up his first career top 5 finish in the NASCAR Xfinity Series after many ran out of fuel at the end of the race at Atlanta. SVG and his crew chief, Bruce Schlicker, made the call to pit late and top off on fuel. This ended up being the right call to get SVG a P3 finish. @@troygillum5 If you think single file saving fuel waiting for a stage break then rinse repeat 2 more times is racing that's pathetic. The racing was real racing ... hammer down stretch the lead. Not this stage brake high down force any zero skill can keep up in draft crap if you think this is racing you must have dementia ... I'm all for driver safety but now also drivers reckless because less chance injury and probably fewer brain cells.
@@Bogues_88 If its zero skill then why do the same guys keep winning? And fuel saving isn't new, only changes is that its stage long not race long. No one today wants to see one driver lead an entire race anymore and if you have a problem with that then blame the culture shift of the fan base, not the racing.

I'm a Kiwi and have been a NACSAR fan for 25 years. SVG is awesome and can drive the wheels off anything. For me, it is just so satisfying to finally see a New Zealander in NASCAR.

the mclaren cap is a great touch
3rd place, first time out, is a pretty fair finish. We'll miss him in the supercar series, but it's great to watch him doing OK over there in NASCAR.
I love your post race commentary, I know nothing about NASCAR and you fill in the gaps. I love SVG and he has a learning curve, he will have and downs. Ovals are a different beast and its just not turn left. Hope for the best, lets see how he learns and goes. Kiwi Power!!!
Here's something for you to chew over and how good a driver SVG is. Entered the NZ Grand Prix in Open Wheelers, a car he had never driven before, had to start from pit lane, and came through and won the race. He also had heaps of great drives in Rally Cars, only being beaten by NZ Top Driver Haydon Padden, ex WRC. Beat all the Aussies and other who have been rallying for years. Drove an Aussie car, small replica's of Supe Cars with Motor Bike Engines, what did he do? Went out and won. Whatever he has driven, he always seems to win or is runner up. Very Good Kiwi Driver.

The guy is bullet proof. Thought the plate tracks would be tough but he survived. Spotter was excellent. Be interesting at Las Vegas where he can sink his teeth into riding the ragged edge.
Scott McLaughlin adapted to Indycar pretty quick SVG drove many different series over years..

i recomend listening to the incar radio with his spotter there is alot more going on than just driving around in circles

If the guys that was in front of him hadnt run out of gas he wouldn't have finished 3rd. But he did run a good race.

As I said last year, if you take the top 5 drivers out of every category in the world and put the in equal machinery, SVG will be a top 5 finisher every time. Especially if they changed the machinery and tracks to 5 races out of every category, he will always be there, not only on talent, but tenacity and adaptability.
Shane also said in one of his interviews that he was saving fuel and was going to have a look at Austins data. Would have been interesting if he had saved enough and didnt pit. That is pretty cool that in Nascar that everyones data is able to be viewed. SVG will make good use of that tool as well. Couldnt do that in Supercars.

Need investigate how Jessie Love and Austin Hill car can go so much further on gas. Very suspicious when u see Jessie leading didn't save any fuel at all while others in draft saving ton fuel ran out.
