My favorite: 1/2 cup each of oats, homemade kefir (second fermented with chai vanilla tea, esp.), nonfat plain Greek yogurt, scoop of vanilla protein powder - - - then 5 g chia seeds, 5 g ground flaxseed - - - dash of pink salt, 1/4 tsp each turmeric, ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries. Delicious every morning after my 2 cups of coffee! Now I'm excited to try these suggestions from you, Magnus! Thanks for sharing your favorites!

yes the pink hymalayan salt thats a must the most healthiest of ingredients, i wonder how true is the situation regarding microplastics in the ocean when i notice in some occasions of very tiny pices of what look like micro plastic not only in salt but also in fish so this is just to make a mental note to keep a look out for this

That carrot cake one looks _amazing_ - I know what I'll have for breakfast tomorrow 😂
As a T1 diabetic, oats are pretty good to start off the day - they have a moderate glycemic index (averaging 55) so my blood glucose doesn't spike and their fiber content is excellent for gut health.
I'll definitely adjust the net carbs _(no additional sweeteners)_ as it is quite the sugary breakfast but it does sound absolutely tasty!

Hey Magnus, try this one as it is one I love:
    Almond milk,
    scoop of crunchy peanut butter,
1/3 cup of pumpkin puree (unsweetened)
1 scoop of vanilla protein powder,
    cinnamon,
    1/2 cup of oats,
Let us know if you try it and your thoughts

Oh new ideas, thank you. My favourite is ½dl of quark mixed with water until it's runny, ½-3/4dl of oats, pinch of salt, 1tbs honey, 1tsp chia seeds, ½dl cloudberry. Top it off in the morning with seabuckthorn.
I generally like to mix quark or plain yoghurt with water until it's runny instead of using milk. I usually use frozen berries so they get added in the mix as well the night before. One of my favourites is to just make the base then add whaterver berries are in the freezer, sweeten it a bit mix it all up and top it off in the morning with what I find in the cupboards.
For protein powder I use chocolate since I haven't found good vanilla yet. ½-3/4dl of oats, 2tbs chocolate protein powder, ab. 1dl milk, 2tbs peanut- or almondbutter, 2tsp honey, ½dl bilberries. Top it off with nut mix and berries in the morning.

We sometimes add a bit of dried fruit to our overnight oats (cranberries, cherries, raisins, etc.), particularly if we're preparing them with Greek yogurt. However, you have to be sparing with dried fruit if you're trying to control sugar, and you definitely wouldn't want to be adding the 1-2 tablespoons of maple syrup that Magnus suggests here if you're also adding dried fruit. With this portion of oats, one or two teaspoons of maple syrup or honey (if you're adding sweetener at all) while using the dried fruit would seem to work. FYI, I actually prepare my oats in a larger glass bowl with a tight lid so that I can make enough for a few servings at once. It's a quick breakfast or snack option for the kids.

while it isn't an overnight recipe, my favourite way of having oats is easily probably boiled into a porridge kind of thing with a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder and the zest of one orange. After the oats are cooked mix in a serve of chocolate protein powder and serve with the orange, sliced. I promise it is satisfying and delicious and one of the lowest effort meals I have ever made.

For when I've got a craving. Chocolate Strawberry Oats.
Oats, milk (I use almond), a scoop of chocolate protein powder, and chopped strawberries. You can use maple syrup, honey, and whatever sweetener you like if you prefer. You can also throw in some dark chocolate chips for extra fun. (I use sugar free) Blueberries and bananas also go well. Also I always add a spoon of plain Greek yogurt to any overnight oats for some probiotics. And extra creaminess :)

Hi Magnus - just wondered your thoughts on Jessie Inchauspe’s thoughts on oats causing high glucose spikes as opposed to eating a savory breakfast including protein fibre and healthy fats instead. As a qualified personal trainer and sports therapist I’ve always eaten overnight oats for years especially after workouts & always managed to stay lean combining with high protein such as eggs, meat etc later in the day. Oats seem to be getting a lot of bad press recently.

Is honey a better sweetener than maple syrup, and I thought Magnus said to avoid sugar in general

    • @vanessagoddess1
      @vanessagoddess1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

depends on what you want to achieve from it?? honey has more overall vitamins but maple syrup has much more vitamin B2
the more the refined and processed any form of sugar is the less beneficial it is for you
people ask me (a lot) how I lost my weight (55kgs so far but lost more fat than that as I've gained quite a bit of lean muscle mass over the 2yrs). I've never been on a diet and I don't count calories. True, you need to be in a caloric deficit but I don't look at individual meals or individual food items - like honey v maple syrup. I look at how much sugar I eat over all my food in an entire day and week (same for fibre, protein, carbs and fat).
So it doesn't really matter which one you pick. It won't make much of a difference.
If you just want to maintain your weight and not lose any, rough rule - MAX daily sugar for all your food (not just what you add but what's already added by the manufacturer) 25 grams sugar = 6 teaspoons
      (4 grams sugar = 1 teaspoon)

    10 or 12 at a time?
Wouldn't that make it go bad sitting in the fridge for that long?

Wow kommer verkligen att göra dessa recept. Ser jättegott ut :-) Vi har ju inte Malibu milk i Sverige så tror du att jag ska byta ut det mot Mandelmjölk.

When you say you make a big batch at a time that lasts for a week. Do u freeze them in the mason jars and let ‘em defrost the night before you consume or do you just leave the whole batch in the fridge ?

Hated oatmeal before this.Banana Walnut and Peanut butter changed everything. Have you ever tried a drop of vanilla instead of protein powder? My 5 year old liked the vanilla taste but not wanting him to eat protein powder. Also does this work for muesli too?

I was introduced to overnight oats a few weeks ago. I've been loving it. I didn't know I can make a large batch and eat it over a few days!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My favorite one is, oats, milk, cocoa powder, protein powder, honey, chai seeds that I top up with yogurt in the morning.
