Friends, we are protecting our investment and repackaging food to protect it from critters and the elements. How are you saving on food and packaging? Tell us all about it!
I turned 70 in August. I was gifted $70. This whole month, 3 grocery stores had $.99 sales with a limit of 20 items. I picked up tuna, chicken, pasta, rice, spaghetti sauce, canned tomato products and veggies. Also picked up a Milky Way as my sweet treat!! My monthly restock budget is $10, so being able to add 69 items to the pantry is such a blessing. Thanks for the tip on the pickle lids! Prayers for you both and your loved ones, everyone on this channel, our great nation and for everyone who has been touched by this storm. Stay safe. 💕🇺🇸🏜
I just threw out a pickle jar today that I had saved because it smelled like pickles. Guess I'll go dig through the recycle bin and pull it back out. Thank you for that tip!!!
Today. This morning. Such an important message. People are trapped without utilities and destroyed roads. I am devastated by what is going on in the south and thanking God I am prepped. Regarding the plastic and mice. I go through my pantry regularly as I refill. I’m able to catch things early and quickly.
I put my rinsed pickle jars in my dishwasher with my dirty dishes and then when done I set them out for several days and no smell. Just another option. We love you ladies. Troy and I are sending our prayers to you both
Enjoy your videos always learn things. Thank you lady. We were blessed on the last hurricane. But we may not be this lucky next time. Georgia, Tennessee, and Carolina 's are awful
I save every jar no matter the size, something will go into it. Some spaghetti jars are labeled Mason and I have canned stuff in those as the lids and rings fit, if you're not sure of the jar for pressure canning, you can use them for water bath. I keep doing what I know to do to save on food costs, shop sales and markdowns, buy as much of that as I can afford. Most everything is canned or stored just like you two do it. I'm running out of space but I'm not stopping. I do eat what I store so it's always in rotation.
@gardengrowinmawmaw8642 huh! Who knew! You! Might have to try that with the free one I got when I went to Sam's. Club or Costco with my sister a couple years back and they were giving them out as freebies.
@@lindalockerman8437 I don't know where Martin Midlife Adve ntures get theirs. I suspect they order online.sometimes you can find them at hardware stores.
I'm glad to know about the pickle jar lids. Ty. Prayers you and Amy are doing well. We need update on homestead. Is it all completed from move yet? Did you get everything moved and set up? Be blessed Ashley.
@@carolwhisenhunt7504 we are all moved, but not completely set up. We still have a ton to do before winter. We will do an update video when we can sit down together. Thank you for your kindness and support. 🥰🙏😍
Thank you for the idea about getting smells out of the lids. I know glass does not hold odor when thoroughly washed, but I have some lids that I've soaked in baking soda and other things, and nothing has helped. I will be putting some lids out in the sun.
Love all your tips on repackaging! I can't get the spaghetti sauce jars free of smell. Any thoughts or suggestions? I save every container and reuse them! 😊 Been canning dog food for grand dog😊! He loves it and dogfood is so expensive like people food! God Bless, keep prayong and prepping!❤
I cover the jar opening with plastic wrap, then put the lid on it. If I have several jars I don't need right away, I put the lids outside like Ashley described.
Just a tip on what I do with spaghetti sauce jars. I store pasta in them because if there’s any tomato smell or taste it won’t affect spaghetti or mist pasta dishes.
Ashley, I have 4 10 lb bags of sugar that I want to repackage into a food grade 5 gallon plastic bucket--- But the bags won't fit in. Will it be safe to simply pour the sugar out of the bags it came in, Into the bucket itself without a bag? I scrubbed out the bucket with hot soapy water and air-dried the bucket, and ran the lid through the dishwasher... I got the bucket from the bakery department at Walmart with the lid for $2.00--- it was ful of frosting!😁😁😁😁
That’s what I do. I buy 25 lb bags and dump it right into my bucket. As long as the lid is air tight it’s good. The lid needs to have a gasket or be one of those gamma lids.
@Pamela-B Thank you SO MUCH, Pamela! Luckily, the lids definitely ARE airtight--- As a matter of fact, I had to actually SIT ON THE LID to close it up tight for my 25 lb. bag of flour!😆😆😆😆
Just a quick question, Ashley: Do you think the rice will be affected by the plastic on the napkins? Is that plastic food safe? I love the way you store your foods. I think of you when I wash those same jars, and fill them with dry goods. Keep on keeping on! Love your content.
Inflation is out of the roof. Please pray for the states that had flooding. Those in the Appalachians are in my prayers. If you can donate please do so. We got alot of rain, thankfully no flooding.
Just to take up space. I didn't have any more rice so I just wanted it filled so the oxygen absorbers will work better. Too much empty space kills the absorbers fast. ❤😍🙏

Its surprising that the jars hold a pound of rice. Thats good to know. Thanks for the information. 🙏🏻
A little of the alcohol will help 'erase' your permanent marker dates so you can re
Date it with the new date when you use it.
A magic eraser will do the same thing.

Question: Bamboo.
Has anyone planted bamboo either as a privacy fence, or food source ( bamboo shoots)? Thanks!

are you freezing the rice for days then thawing before packaging?
It depends on how I am packing it. If its in glass jars with oxygen absorbers I dont. If im putting it into a 5 gallon bucket, absolutely 100% 👍 yes
@@MartinMidlifeMisadventures thank you for the reply
I have a question? Why did you put the salmon in the jar?
Just to take up space. I didn't have any more rice so I just wanted it filled so the oxygen absorbers will work better. Too much empty space kills the absorbers fast. ❤😍🙏
The smell in the pickle jar comes from the cap. Pour baking soda in the cap and let it sit. Smell is gone
Do you know how I can keep brown sugar I repackaged from getting hard?
😏 Put a capful of bleach, mixed with water in glass jars to get rid of the smell. Turn the jar upside for 24 hours, empty then rewash 😏
