Thank you for your videos, your tutorials are the first ones that really helped me! Great clear, explanations things are starting to click. (Lovely backdrop too 😍)
I love this, thank you for sharing :) I was blessed to spend 9 months in Kauai and had the ability to transform the entry into a teaching space :) I am back in Los Angeles but my family owned home rink is closed permanently. But! I have a lovely backdrop for future tutorials in whatever space I find! Skaters are resilient.
Wow. You are my favourite trainer from now on. Such a sophisticated technique. Everything calmly rolled out and explained. I've been at it for 2 months but am now starting again. Thank you very much and greetings from Hamburg/Germany👋🏻
You know again, here I guess I skipped the details of this tutorial because I figured hey I can skate backwards and do most of the time when I am actually at the rink but then when when more advanced skills required backwards skating correctly I learned that the way that I was skating backwards is not correct at least not if one wants to excel in learning advanced moves in artistic or figure skating. You are so correct too, its hard to break bad habits. (sigh) but I am going back to the very beginning and doing it right and get the building blocks down solid ! Hey if nothing else ya gotta appreciate my honesty. lol
Back to basics oh no haha. In the end there’s no right or wrong way to skate backwards if you’re focusing on being a recreational skater, but you’re right for figure skating foundation I would recommend honing on the basics 👍🏻😊🙏🏻
Ah yes … I taught beginner classes for decades ! My mom wrote an article for RSA (Roller Skating Assoc) they have a Learn to Skate program that goes over teaching teachers to teach beginners -advanced skaters
I love your videos and the way you teach! Great techniques and lovely vibe. I’ve been struggling so much learning backwards skating but I’m excited to go out and try again after watching this video :)
Thank you appelusa for these tutorials. I'm 41 years old, I'm starting to rollerblade for the first time (and to a sliding sport) and your tutorials are great. I will watch them all until I master everything you have presented. On your side, do you think of creating others or do you have a paying platform to learn a lot of techniques and in particular in roller dance? Thanks a lot 🙏
Hi! So sorry for this delay to respond! It was my intention (and still is) to create a multi level platform, free, donation, memberships. But I have been living out of a suitcase for the better part of two years as we transition from a moldy home to no home haha- we are actually moving to Kauai this week for a while and I can focus on school and perhaps build what I intended 😊👏🏻 hang in there with me! We are about the same age! I’m stoked for you skating journey and it sounds like you are self disciplined and well paced. 👍🏻
@@appelusa Great thanks for this detailed answer. Yes looking forward to following you and seeing your evolution as a teacher 😊I can't wait to continue learning again and again
Thank you for asking! The arch under your foot to the inside is what I’m referring to. Most people push their arch down with the pressure of standing on it, or some people are what is called “flat footed” where their arch is flat to the ground where it should be raised. There are arch supporters at grocery stores and orthotics for those who need support for alignment issues - knee problems that become associated. So in skating that can become a problem for balance if you arch drops. Does that make sense? I refer to it for certain edges or turns.
@@appelusa thank you for your detailed response. I have an extremely high arch & used to wear insoles from Dr Scholl in my boot. Since I have removed them I can feel different points in my boot now. So I think this explanation does make a lot of sense to me. Again thank you love your TH-cam videos sooo helpful. Can you do one on two foot spins on balls of feet.. having trouble doing the heel toe spin
Hey Lauren! Have you tried bubble forward and backward? Biggest thing that comes to mind is where weight is. For backwards should be balls of the feet knees bend. The push foot turns in and digs down into the ground to crate friction- propelling you backwards. The standing foot (rolling foot under you) can have weight a little more center if you have trouble staying towards ball of foot. Hope that helps. I have live zoom classes and private zoom lessons available!
@@appelusa thank you so is there situations when you can collapse the arch in your boot, hoping I’m not over thinking it, such as possibly cornering or any other situations
@@dianefinamore2285 yes any time you do inside edges you would be pressing down to the inside of your foot. It’s mostly the “flat footed” people who have to think about lifting their arches or adding support because they tend to cave in which also they caves their knees in.
@@dianefinamore2285 you might be over thinking it but I always not it in my videos when it’s important for that skill. Check out the slalom video if you haven’t yet.
OMG! I've struggling to go backwards because my feet were too far apart but NOW I GET IT! Thank you so much, I'm gonna practice a lot now.
I must say your tutorials are some of the best I have seen on TH-cam. Thanks for the detailed and thorough explanations.
Thank you so much @manaucci ! I appreciate the feedback😊 Make sure to subscribe if you haven’t already as I upload more advanced tutorials 🙏🏻
@@appelusa I did! :)
I agree! Definitely among the best
I watched 5 videos over and over before finally understanding your way of teaching! Thanks!
Hey Jazmine! Thanks for the comment and feedback! I’m curious now about what you mean exactly, would you mind elaborating further ? 😆😊🙏🏻
Your instructions make the most sense! :) Thank you.
You explain technique so clearly
Thank you, this is the tutorial that I needed to progress in my backwards skating. I'm looking forward to watching and learning more from your videos.
Oh awesome! Thanks for the feedback 🙏🏻 I do also have live zoom classes- hit me up on IG if you’re interested in info! Info in Linktree 😊
Wowwww. You are an amazing teacher!!! Just learned two new moves in like 1p minutes. Wowwww. Thank you. Can't wait for more. 😍

Love how ya just never know when you will include a dance in your tutorials!
I don't know if you can call it that but yes haha you gotta transition from being so technical and just have fun right?
So clear and helpful!
Thank you so much! I'm a former ice skater now roller derby coach and I've struggled to break down basic backwards skating for derby players.

What do you mean by not collapsing the arch?

For some reason I can do bubbles just fine, but can’t figure out how to do the backwards push.

Hi what do you mean don’t collapse you arch as I have very high arch
Just that you should try to keep space between the boot and your arch, so not meeting the arch of your foot press down onto the boot.
