As a paramedic, I gotta say that you're dead wrong on the drawbacks of brass/copper when it comes very specifically to healthcare. Copper and copper containing compounds like bronze and brass (along with sterling silver but it's much, much slower so less useful in that role) are INTENSELY antimicrobial. Even when oxidized, germs that contact copper containing compounds pretty much just detonate. It kills bacteria, viruses, just about everything. So as a paramedic, I pretty much EXCLUSIVELY use brass fountain pens and a one-off raw brass fisher AG-11 prototype that they sold me. And the "smell" goes away very, very quickly. Within a couple weeks, the oxides on the surface will create a barrier to that interaction between the oils in your hand and the metal that cause the odor. It means that if you want the pen to stay shiny, you're gonna have to deal with the smell, but if you like patina (which is honestly the point - if you want shiny, just get a gold plated or silver pen) then you're golden. For me, the two pens I use the absolute most in the field are a brass delike alpha that I sanded the lacquer off to be raw brass (I prefer it to kaweco's brass sport because it's under $15 and that half inch extra length in the barrel makes it just usable unposted and posted, which is a huge deal, wheras the sport is unusable unposted.) I also swapped in an EF vintage eversharp #2 manifold 14k nib into it, which looks amazing, and a solid copper tactile turn gist with a titanium F nib. I also use, but not as much, the travelers company brass pen, albeit with the nib swapped out for a 14k pilot FM from a juliet that I bought for $25. Honestly, I kind of hate kaweco. Their pens are so close to perfect, but their ergonomics always fail in the details. The sport is a half inch too short in the barrel, and needed a rounded bottom (the alpha fixes this) the liliput and this needed a 1/4 turn screw post to keep it from being obnoxious to use when standing. Also, their pricing seems to be spectacularly arbitrary and pointlessly high, particularly for the poor nib QC they tend to suffer. The failings of a pen's ergonomics become deathly apparent in the healthcare field, when you're holding a clipboard in one hand and writing with the other.
I have this as my edc, and I like how I don’t have to baby it. Although it is kind of pricy for what it is, but this is actually the cheapest non-pocket brass fountain pen from a reputable company. It is cheaper than tactile turn gist brass, ystudio brassing (which only has a Schmidt nib) and namisu nova brass. The only cheaper options are Monteverde tool in brass and Moonman M1 which has a brass section + cap with wood barrel. The only thing I hate about this pen is the amount of turns it takes to uncap.
Nice review Stephen, thank you! I'm afraid this pen is too long capped and too short uncapped (I have large hands ), still better than Sport though. I like Kaweco a lot as a brand, but as you said when you buy one you don't know what to expect from the nib .... Regarding brass I went for the Namisu Nova Brass with a Bock that is quite broad and very very juicy - a real gusher that puts all my papers into a real test.
I LOVE this pen. This pen is what I use everyday for work and school. It's not all that shiny anymore but it IS brass. Plus, I kind of prefer it with a bit of patina.
Stephen, what a fun review. I think I lucked out with the only Kaweco I have in that it writes properly. Looks like a fun pen, but a bit on the skinny side for me. Again thanks for the wonderful and fun review.
Id love to add this to my Kaweco Collection, I think I just found my next pen purchase?🤔 Ive said it many times before it was your review that got me addicted to the Kaweco brand if you get a Kaweco give away ever please may i be one of or Thee winner of said pen. I got a pen package/kit combo in mind.... an SBRE BROWN ink with a Brown Kaweco Sport Classic in a Broad Nib. I'll take one please Yes Sir! 🙏🏽😎
Thank you for this very informative review. Personally I’m put off by the smell of untreated brass from a pen, so it’s not for me. Unless I take the trouble of varnishing it. But that eliminates the charming tarnishing with time. So it’s probably not a pen for me.
How much in USDollars? And where in the USA do you get one? Should fine, medium or broad nib would you recommend? And color of Kaweco ink? Hummm 95 euros🤑
95€ is too much, i'm planning to make one FP in this style with kaweco nib(whole "replacement" nib unit) , and the price with all material and tools came around 50€ for one pen(all manual work on lathe). -Plan is still acitve, but i need time to make this FP
So funny 🤣 I just managed to hold my self back and go for other pens first. ...and now this you release this video. :D It is a pen I’ll get for sure for taking notes and attach to some kind of paperthingy, therefor the thinness is useful. :)
Nice review, as always. I am italian, and when I hear patìna, with the i stressed, just start to think "oh lord, why?" because for us it's pàtina. By the way, me too I don't like narrow pens, but brass is fun. Not one of my favourite pens, but nice video
your lens where sharper back in the days? th-cam.com/video/z04WRsCsXfk/w-d-xo.html I still enjoy your videos, but would accept some video/light enhancements.

I’ve just got a Liliput fp Copper and a gold plated BB nib and it’s great but no line variation
Another great video Stephen!
Thank you for the review!
Nice looking pen. Were it somewhat thinner, I'd be tempted. Thanks for showing it to us.
i highly doubt you'll find a thinner fountain pen...
@@HelenoPaiva Be that as it may, I got one anyway and love it.
Isn't brass antimicrobial ?
It is
Great review as always. Thanks, Doc!

21% SALES TAX!?!
That’s a pretty brass pen. Looks a bit skinny though??
Yes, it is rather thin. You should check out the Kaweco Supra in Brass or Stainless Steel. It has a pretty normal thickness. :)
