  • We are with our mother Hen and her cute baby chicks. this is their first time we let the Hen take care of her own chicks. and also their first time the chicks go outside, but 3 of the chicks is a little confused and mistaken the rooster as their mother.

    Thank God this video exists. I lost one of my chicks in my house, and thus, the video helped me find it because it also responded to the hen's call.

    • @themusicdropout473
      @themusicdropout473 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      No, if you notice where the rooster is pecking on the ground before the chick comes running over, the chick saw that as a sign there is something good there and just wanted to see if the rooster was eating something yummy. When I hand raised my chicks I had to teach them to peck for food, and so I’d tap the ground to get their attention, it’s a natural instinct.

      This will sound bizarre but I've tried making that clucking sound you hear the hen makes in this video when she's pecking the seeds on the ground to actual baby chicks and they knew the sound meant "come eat this" and came looking for food. Apparently one can learn to speak chicken lmao

    I have a chick that had to be removed from the coop when it was newly born.
    It had yucky eyes and one of its eyes is missing. I was afraid it was sick and I didn’t want my other chicks to get whatever it had. Now I think maybe one of the other hens pecked it and got it’s eye.
    But because it was newly hatched I had to bring it in and put it under a heat lamp. I didn’t have the heart to put it down, but I wasn’t sure it would survive.
    And because it’s alone I decided to play your video for it so that it could hear a mother hen and other chicks. I play it all the time. My chick peeps back. It’s so cute.

      @@foIkwhor3 it’s doing great. But it only has one eye. It’s a rooster. I’m going to have to find someone who wants a “challenged” rooster. If I let it out in my yard my other chickens and rooster will pick at it. If I bring it inside I have two dogs that I found out are not chicken friendly.

      I was wondering if it was a rooster, and thank you for confirming. I have a teenage rooster that won't stop pecking (if given the access and opportunity) at one of my newly hatched chicks, and i suspect it is because it's a cockerel. You know, something like killing off the competition. It only happened when i tried to introduce them to each other, and have since separated them again. @@TM-bc6ld

      @Jesuslovesyou.7 Bird behavior is explained entirely by instinct: Hunger, survival, mating, and so on. They do not have emotions. Your petty remark about pet ownership is irrelevant. Humans that interact with animals frequently project their own emotional on the animals, or interpret instinct driven animal behavior as if the animal was acting rationally, emotionally, etc. Total rubbish.

      In Miami there's a lot of wild chickens. Maybe feral is the correct term. Anyway I see them all the time when I take walks outside. Because they tend to stay in the same areas, I have come to recognize the same chickens and flocks. It is fun to watch what they naturally do when not interfered with by humans.
