My brother has chickens and they do this egg song almost every morning in the summertime, and he HATES it. He has a bad headache rn because he’s sick and like the loving little sister I am, I played this for him which made his headache worse🥰

They do this because: - Some other hen has taken their favourite nesting box - She cannot find any more nesting boxes - She has had a bit of trouble laying her egg (before and/or after laying)
My babies have just started laying, it isn't everyday yet, I haven't heard them do this and I can't wait until I'm finally there for it. Thank you for this awesome video!
Never considered this a "song." We called it cackling. It's what hens free ranged do after laying, and the rooster crows so they can return to the flock.

@@sonofhibbs4425 chickens are very affectionate towards their baby chicks, even roosters protect the chicks from predators and feed them, battery and barn hens only move towards cannibalism because of the horribly confined living conditions, on the other hand I've seen male cats killing their baby kittens, I wouldn't kill any animal for any reason but I really disliked them after seeing that.

I got so irritated and angry this morning that i almost decided their death day was today but i was curious of what their screaming meant b4 i send them to chicken heaven. Oh she did! Twelve boxes, actually. But they liked coming around to the storage part of the coop while free ranging to find dropped food and I gues she liked the spot!
My hens like to lay eggs wherever they like. I'm happy when they lay in the coop because those are easy to find, but my girls sometimes make nests in odd places that strike their fancy. I was worried that Josie, my Golden Comet, was eggbound because she hadn't laid in ages. Then one day, I saw her duck into my neighbor's backyard, so I followed her...and there, in a 4-inch-wide space between two fences, ten feet from the opening, there was a leaf-and-grass nest with ELEVEN JOSIE EGGS in it! I don't know how that little minx managed to squeeze all the way back there. It was way too tight a space for her--but she took a liking to it, and enjoyed laying back there at least eleven times. If my neighbor's fence was wood instead of wire mesh, I never would have thought to look there.
That's so cute how she decided to make her nest in a bag of all places.

Not usually! Typically means they laid an egg or are sounding an alarm to the others for something they see.
