  • MIDWIFE VS HOSPITAL BIRTH - Dr. Brytani gives her birth story of her hospital vs birth center birth. During her first birth, her hospital birth, her delivery was more traumatic than her second birth with midwives, Midwife Kira and team. In her birth story video she explains what happened during each birth.

My husband and I are thinking of starting a family soon. Would you recommend looking at birthing centers before the pregnancy to give them an idea on your goals and timeline?

i am pregnant with my first.
I am very nervous about giving birth.
I want a water birth but I don’t know if I want a midwife birth or hospital birth
I don’t do good with pain so if I go the midwife route I probably won’t be able to have any pain management

Hi Hanna! There are a variety of pain management options that do not involve medications. However, don't forget you can always transfer to the hospital for pain management during labor if it just turns out to be more than you thought it would be. However, getting prepared to handle an unmedicated birth, staying out of the bed and surrounding yourself with a support team makes all the difference in making it through. Hiring a doula is also a great idea, no matter where you choose to give birth!

The pain is unbelievable and only the hospital gives epidurals or any painkillers!!!

Dear Kira, I am trying for a vbac in august and the doctors at my hospital have given me a rather non committal response. They are willing to try but no one is being my champion about it. My question is is it a fair expectation to want a doctor who says "You can do this!" rather than someone who says, we will give you a tolac and see how it goes? What can I do to help my doctor gain more confidence in my ability to give birth? Thanks.

My mom had to have an emergency c-section with me (nearly 30 years ago) because I was breech. Her original plan was to have me at home under the care of her midwife. The midwife was apprehensive about delivering a breech baby with a first time mom, so she suggested my parents transfer to the hospital (and she went with them, I believe). Two years later, my mom had my sister at home, and would go on to have my three other siblings at home as well. VBACs can definitely be done. I hope you were able to have the birth experience you wanted!

I want an unmedicated birth and a birth center sounds perfect for me but I feel scared about not having a doctor in case it’s needed like if there’s an emergency or something like that.

What if the pain is too much and you need an epidural?

    • @Chelsea-bq1zn

That’s completely understandable. Midwives provide adequate healthcare but sometimes complications occur that are beyond their scope of practice. They will make sure that you safely get to a doctor if that were to happen. Midwives also provide services at a hospital so that might be reassuring/convenient knowing that there’s a doctor nearby.

@@cupcake1406 Dude, stop fear mongering! I’ve seen you comment on multiple comments about epidurals! Women have been delivering without them for centuries.

I’m expecting! BUT....... my hesitance about a birthing center is just what my insurance will cover. If they cover it I am Johnny on the spot!!!!!

Call your local midwives first! Insurance companies may not give you the entire picture. Good luck!

I’m paying less using a birthing center than my deductible and 30% after that at the hospital.

First time mom! Just found out I’m pregnant but don’t know what to do first! I want to do a natural pregnancy and birth! Do I still go into my local hospital and then seek out a midwife?? Or can you go straight to the midwife!

Praise God he is ok 🩷 I’m fully convinced hospitals are simply not the safest place to give birth for normal healthy pregnancies 👍🏻🩷
