New sub! Love the content. I’m a Diesel Tech 1 year in. About to move on to my third fleet job in that time. 5$ raise from one job offer, potentially a $14 raise from another company (might get lucky on that one.) It’s out there if you go for it. The tech shortage helps in some ways. I’m studying hard still and showing I care about the job and providing value. It might actually pay off. 😅
I don’t regret working on big trucks probably the best career move I did. The automotive industry just seems to be in shambles. Seems to be more work in the heavy duty and equipment side of things.
You’re crazy! 9 kids!! You must really bring home the bread. You mentioned Edison motors, very interesting stuff. I hope to work on those trucks rather than a tesla truck in a decades time.
Either choose money or lots of kids. You can tell what my hobby is. We are wealthy in the important ways. I also see the change a coming. I would love to be in r&d for new technology. Canada has self driving fleet capability but still powered by diesel. The torque to battery power will be a stumbling block till feasible materials science advances. Thanks for the comment brother
Esg is an understatement with parts. Black Rock will see a lower esg score if a manufacturer supports an older vehicle. Hence the companies no longer support the old stuff or they lose funding in the future whether they make money or not.
Huh, I guess I’m an old timer now lol, one thing I do have to say is it’s hard to find younger people to fill these positions,I have been employed at the same place for twenty years and I’m one of the youngest ones in the garage
The old guys that taught me in my 20s didn't move fast or lift heavy either. Im 44 and still able to work 14 straight hours no problem. Far longer if it's not physical work 😆. Maybe we are just specimens of manliness.

I could not agree more. The auto industry lacks standardized shop practices and HD places far more value on the technicians. Great comment!
