  • Well, this year I had a lot of luck pre-sprouting my ranunculus and not so great luck with the anemones. The ranunculus were so prolific that I literally ran out of room to place them. Watch as I get the ranunculus and anemones planted in a combination of raised garden beds and containers. So excited to be growing ranunculus and anemones in my cut flower garden this year!

    Great video. I sprouted ranunculus for 1st time this year, zone 7a. Surprise all but two sprouted and quickly. I put them in 4" pots and keeping under grow lights in a cool sunroom until I can safely plant them outside. They are growing rapidly with multiple leaves and stems and I put them outside during day. I'm not going to have enough room either . Planting some in containers is a good idea. Most years I buy established plants from nursery and stick them in my containers and they do well. Good luck with yours. I'm sure they will be amazing.

      I didn't pre-sprout, but I did soak and put in 3" pots. I put the tray in a dark cool space but now I'm wondering if I should have them under grow lights. It's been about 2 weeks and I see a little green in one pot. Since the processes are similar, minus the pre-sprout, what do you think I should do? Thanks, also zone 7 in Maryland.

      I put some potting mix in a 1020 tray a month ago and then put my corms in and covered with more soil....make sure soil is damp...not wet but not dry....I put a 1020 tray on top of them and put them on my floor in the dining room...Temps around 68-72 in my house....it took like 3 to 4 weeks for them to really sprout but they did finally and I spritzed with water every day when I checked them hoping for life....thinking it would never come....but it did...I just needed patience ....once a bunch started showing green sprouts I moved the trays outside under my porch and then after letting them grow another week I just put them in some raised beds....so long story short...it took alot longer than I thought it would so hang tight....I bet you will see life soon....also when the Temps went below 35...which wasn't too many days...I just brought them back inside my house

    I’ve never tried either of those so I’m really looking forward to seeing how well they do in our area, and it looks like they will be in full sun.

      +Marion Nixon yes they will be in full sun, so here’s hoping for a mild spring and not a hot one!

    I just put in a large order of ranunculus for fall planting, in ground. I'm in zone 8b, I'm going to leave them and see how they do coming back on their own.

    **Viola Update - we planted the same variety of Violas from Baker Creek - out of 15 seeds only FOUR germinated. Not happy (either) at all about the lack of germination.

    Seeing you silver raised troughs, I was wondering if you had a problem with them getting too hot? I’m going to have to replace my wooden raised beds and buying some similar to yours but mine will get full sun from about 11 til sunset. I just live about 2 miles from you , so same conditions as you have. Saw your videos with the plants you had in them last year and looks like the plants did fine. Enjoy all your videos!

      +Sandra Traugott they have done great! However I did put up shade cloth during July and part of August due to the 90 days of drought and excessive heat.

    Good morning/afternoon/evening not sure where you come in. Looking forward to seeing all them in bloom. Especially the white ones. Fingers crossed that they all come up and you can make many bouquets. Enjoy the rest of your day.

    I had to use my vegetable raised beds for my ranunculus corms .....my corms sprouted really really well this year too. I have not had success with ranunculus for the past 3 years...I have tried fall planting them since we are in 8a....no luck. Maybe this will be the year of the ranunculus for all of us !!!! Can't wait to see yours ....how long do they last for you...when do they start to bloom and when do they stop?? Also do u dig out your corns in the summer or just buy new ones. I think mine rotted when I planted them in fall....I have irrigation and I tend to overwater. I'm trying. Gardening is an Art.

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  ปีที่แล้ว

      +Nikki Holton they tend to bloom beginning to mid spring and bloom for about 4-6 weeks as long as the weather doesn’t get too hot too quick … if we are going to be getting over 80 consistently, then I’m going to put up some shade cloth.

    I didn’t know you could buy plugs from Covington’s. Do they sell other plants as plugs ? Do you have to ask for them specifically?
    I’m growing ranunculus for the first time this year. Pre sprouted and then put in 4in pots under grow lights. They are doing great so far. Now to decide where to plant. Always nervous to bring plants out of the “nursery” and into the big, bad world lol

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I should the word plant not plug … they sell 4 inch pots of lisianthus … they are typically available at the end of the spring.

    I didn't pre-sprout but I'm trying to start them in pots after soaking. It's been about 2 weeks and I see a little green in one pot. What was the timeframe for you? How soon are you expecting growth from planting in the ground?
    Do you think they'll do ok with 4-5 hours of sun? There are 2 reasons to not enjoy a partially wooded lot; when looking for a full sun area and raking leaves in the fall. Although 3 years ago, I found out you can mulch with those leaves (even if my husband hates the idea and process).

      Sorry I missed this comment! Truthfully I still think I started too late on mine … next year I’m going to perhaps start them in the fall!
