As I mentioned in my first comment on your gas mixing video, just bout my first boat 88 ranger v393. I plan on taking it out for my first time, it's a two stroke and I wanted to save myself some embarrassment at the dock, so I was thinking about trying / learning to start my boat in my yard tomorrow, once again your video didn't disappoint
In the early 1990 s the local marine mechanic told me that as long as I was using my 9.9 Yamaha kicker motor once a week or more not to worry about flushing with fresh water. The impeller would not dry out in those circumstances. The boat I have now does not stay in the water and I do flush it unless going out again in a few days. A lot of newer outboards have freshwater fitting for flushing at the dock but often they are to be used with engine not running. Most I.O. (sterndrives ) around here have heat exchanger closed water cooling where you have fresh water and salt water circulating thru a heat exchangerin separate copper tubes. CHEERS from Wetcoast Canada!
I run my Yamaha on the flush port all the time and have never burned an impeller. Just don’t rev the motor. If idling, it’s fine and use a large hose, 3/4” to make sure you have enough water flow.
You ever get a boatload (no pun intended) of tools from a buddy and find that one odd tool you have no idea what it is? Yeah, that just happened. I had no idea what a boat muff motor cleaner thingy was until today. Now I know! Problem is... I don't have a boat, but now I have a muff. I am blessed! Now I just need a boat.
Nice video! It would be usefull to see it with the motor running, imho Im a salt water boater, i flush it every day i run it, exception when i stay aboard on weekends
I flush all the time after I have been out on the lake as it’s salt based I also use this stuff called salt away works good and helps stop the build up of salt corrosion
Hi there, I am 100% saltwater and you need to run fresh water to rinse out the salt every timer you go out. I had mine at several marinas and normally they are suppose to rinse them for you after every time you bring it back in. Since I have mine on a lift now, every time I rinse.
My $.02 I live on the TX Gulf Coast and fish year round. I swear b4 I do anything else after arriving home I hook up the FLUSH-MUFFS, turn on the water and start the motor. Newer outboards have a port to bypass the Muffs... DON'T DO IT.! I run the flush for about 4mins then wash it down. My Evinrude is a 2007 Etec 115hp and its serviced every January. God bless and as always "Tight Lines and Full Limits To Ya" (Good subject, thanks for sharing.)
Some have a new water pump on our inboard mercruiser. When running the muffs on land, there's some water dripping below the pump if the hose is up too high. Is this normal??
I’m a salt water boater and keep my boat a a marina. I use my muffs almost every time I come in. I’m on the St. John’s river not far from the Atlantic Ocean. Many of the folks in my marina do not flush their engines. But a good number do.
I've loved all your episodes I've viewed but this one is like explaining to new boaters which is the top of the boat and which is the bottom so they don't launch their boat upside-down. This was funny.
Just to share a caution that is flagged in my Mariner 50HP owner's manual: Do not have the water flow too high (they suggest opening the tap/faucet to no more than half. Otherwise, to much pressure will damage seals in the engine. If you think about it, the motor can only take as much water as the tell-tale can flow, so not much.
So on my engine above towards the top or midway of the engine there’s another unscrewable outlet that I can attach a hose to, can that also be used to run a boat, or is that just strictly to flush?
Motor ran perfectly on the water all day today with a perfect tell tail even at idle. But upon applying my earmuffs for a flush I had no tell tell. Any idea?
I've heard of that happening. Sometimes the muffs don't push enough water through for some motors. Some people only get water out of the tell-tale when submerged in water.
It depends on whether you're getting a good seal where they mount providing a good flow. If you rev the engine, sometimes a hose will not provide enough water, so keep that in mind.
Salt water only..go with my cuzzin once a week for around 5 months and used the muffs once..we always at full throttle right before we get in for around 20-30 seconds..think the one time we didn't fly it in is when he used the muffs..🤷♂️

Good luck! When do go to the ramp, try to maintain patience and clear thinking because it can sometimes be a challenge!
Thanks i learned something. Appreciate you I’ve used many of your videos. I’m new to boating and learning a lot. Thanks again
Glad to help - and thank you!
Seriously you do a great service and I’m sure there’s more people who would attests

Thanks Wayne. There were no instructions on my "Round Motor Flusher" and needed to test an old outboard I am tuning up.
Very educational and very important
Very good explanation!!
Thanks a bunch. The name of these things wasn't easy to find.
Hi this is a question can u hook up ur muffs while the boat is in the water and flush ur engine in the water
Great video and detailed.. thanks .. you look like Simon on American Idol

I found so much information in this video. Thank you.

Nice!
Great video sir thank you.

I just purchased a 1993 excel 4 cylinder 240 volvo seeking a place that carry parts

Perfect explanation

Thanks for the video, I had no idea what those were for, thanks and keep up the good work 👍👍💯
Thank you for the kind words!
Great video Wayne I just can’t find your description spot to order these on Amazon?
The video description text is just below the video - on mobile sometimes it's hard to access.
Excellent explanations. Great video. Thanks

good point!!
Up in Wisconsin we call those boat motor "cups".
We flush the motor after every use in saltwater, we also run a product called Salt-Away through the cooling system.
That's a good thing to do!
So on my engine above towards the top or midway of the engine there’s another unscrewable outlet that I can attach a hose to, can that also be used to run a boat, or is that just strictly to flush?
I have seen those, but I personally haven't had an outboard with that feature.
I'd like to suggest that you put the muffs on from the front of the drive. this way if you put it into gear you're not going to hit it with the prop
I was thinking the same thing. How do I ensure the prop doesn't get damaged
Just put the muffs on from now side will not hit prop then
if you watch the video, at the 5:15 mark he explains that he can’t do it that way on this particular out drive because they won’t reach
Thanks
Thanks, helped a lot for first time flusher:-)
Glad it helped
Guys, skip the first 27 seconds. You will thank me
that was the best part, where’s your sense of humor!? 😂
That was my favorite part lol, now I like the guy and can start learning lol
Hello, I put a new impeller pump but no water comes out
Check to make sure the outlet hole/pipe/tube is clear. Sometimes there's a bit of debris in there.
Awesome thanks
4:30 looks like a really really tight fitting headset
Yup!
That’s because you’re improperly installing them they go the other way that way when you turn the proper on the hose don’t get stuck in the prop

how long can you run an engine on water muffs?

Hey my boat dose not want to suck the water and I just got a new pump and it over heats and i don’t know what it is
Something might be clogging the passages. Sometimes pieces of the old impeller can block the flow.
I watched the whole thing thinking i may use this on a small outboard until the end of the video 😆
If you put the muff on the way you did, the propeller would hit it when you started it I’m guessing
Sometimes they only fit on one way.
You do not need to put your boat in gear to flush it neutral is just fine but he did put it on backwards
2 burritos and a 6-pack usually does the trick! Lol
lol
Only problem I see if you put your engine in gear the the propeller will hit the Muffs. Because sometimes your propeller will turn.
Yeah I was quite worried about that when I used them the first time. I had my wife watch to make sure everything was ok.
@@WayneTheBoatGuy why not just flip it around and hit it from the back?
Wrong. They are called Mickey Mouse muffs. 😆 Thanks for the video! 👍
Don't turn the hose on full blast cause you'll lose more water than your motor is taking in an it will over heat
Bar goes the other way
haha
.
Wish there was a fast forward, guy loves himself too much.
If you weren’t so mean, I’d tell you how you CAN fast forward a video.
