This is one of my favorite films. This song especially always begins to play in my head when ever I think of adventure.

This movie, Red Cliff part I and II together, is fantastic in its breadth and scale. It provides an almost perfect balance between characterization, exposition, romance, suspense, comic relief, conflict and battle scenes. It is very well filmed and uses special effects as a spice adding to the spectacle. Not a replacement. It is a true model of the genre, a masterpiece. *The* John Woo movie to see if you ever watch one.
I had to buy several DVDs of this movie for myself and family members. It is such a famous historical tale from Ancient China. I love the music and the actors, too!
When I play Dynasty Warriors, I mute the in-game background music and play this (and a couple other soundtracks) instead. Epic movie, beautiful music. Thanks for posting!
This piece is so beautiful. It deserves to be more famous than it is, but sadly, it was composed for an Oriental film which didn't garner much attention in Western countries. I think it's one of the best historical-themed pieces out there, though.
First time I saw Red Cliff I was thinking LOTR was 1 of the best long movies I have seen. Red Cliff all changed that. 1 of my favorite movies. Good acting, nice special effects, good plot.
LOTR is fantasy. The Three Kingdom's great battle at Red Cliff, China is REAL. Cao Cao's name went down in Chinese history as the only commander-in-chief who lost 800,000 soldiers in one night in the Great Battle Of Red Cliff. By the way, Red Cliff is now a tourist attraction. Every year, thousands of Three Kingdom followers went there to check out the battlefield locations ... the piers, the valleys and the naval base.
@@ftd7435 I mean, he didn't _actually_ lose 800,000 soldiers lol. the numbers recorded in history are _massively_ inflated. there's no way he even commanded 800,000 soldiers, let alone lost that many in one night. china's population was much smaller then. china itself was geographically much smaller then. and cao cao only controlled a third of it. even modern China only has an army of about 2 million active duty servicemen, and that includes non-combatants. the idea that the three kingdoms fielded more men in 208 than modern China does in 2023 is preposterous. its population is at least 20 times larger now than it was then. a modern estimate of the total casualties for the entire battle (for the entire winter-long conflict) is 100,000. and not all of those could have been cao cao's losses.
The song appeared many times in the film, it fits so well. I love the song it’s like a introduction to a massive adventure from warriors to general, lords to politicians
One of the greatest movies of our time. Has absolutely every facet about humanity in it and shows the rich history of China. Watched it a dozen times and will a dozen more in my lifetime. Every great movie needs a great music score and this movie has it in spades.
The Battle fo Red Cliff is a monumental DVD that I bought, and watch over and over again, if you love reading The Art of War, you'll see this movie depicted in this book and all of its theories! You have to love it! The music is wonderful, too!
This could very well be my favorite film of the 200X's (sans maybe Fellowship of the Ring), as it was smart, cathartic, featured some genuinely great battle sequences, and combined them with some great cinematography, sound design and music! True, the fact that The Three Kingdoms is almost certainly my favorite Historical era doesn't hurt.
It was a decisive battle fought at the end of the Han dynasty, about twelve years prior to the beginning of the Three Kingdoms period in Chinese history.
this is one of the many Chines movies that's just insanely good. topped only by the likes of Infernal Affairs I-III and the Revenge series. Asian directors know what's up. Last life of the Universe, Bittersweet Life, Nobody knows, the list goes on and on.
@Intranetusa The semi mythical nature of the stories in ROTK included themselves some clearly magical bits. The maze formation also reminded my a bit of the quasi-magical battles in the Indian epic the Mahabharata. And the 100k arrow bit was Zhuge Liang as seen in this film.
Yes!, I have respect for him, Taro Iwashiro, and everyone else who collaborated with John Woo to pull this epic movie off. John Woo didn't get any award from the USA for this entire movie, that includes musical score, actors and actresses, costumes, sets, Director, etc. Be happy for everyone, the total picture is wonderful!
thank you for sharing , it becomes one of my favorite collections! magnificent soundtracks, astonished talented compositor! The film itself is also a great job.
Abhinay Limbu same here mate :D i love kingdom manga series too Although its about the chinese waring states period way way back before the three kingdoms around 200 BC or so cmiiw, it still have great stories. I wish Chinese Warring States Period got some recognition around the world. Well the three kingdoms is great, but other chinese history period are also great too like the warring states period.
This movie, soundtrack and crew are nothing shorter then Amazing. I fell in love with this movie :) P.S. Allways when im done seeing this movie i find it fitting to play the old Dynasty warrior games :)
@GoodWill181111 Red Cliff is based on one of the battles that was part of the Three Kingdoms Era as told by Luo Guanzhong. There are many games based on the conflicts. SHAOLINPHEONIX already listed a few. Of course, you can change the timeline in the game. For example in one of the tactics games, instead of Zhuge Liang historically dying in the Wuzhang Plains, he helps restore the Han dynasty.
Hey, looking for more "heroic" / "war" themed music from taro iwashiro brought me here and if you guys liked these ones you might want to check the Soundtrack he made for the Blade & Soul game. I don't like the game but god is the music awesome; also there are loadz more music there. Enjoy :)
I should add that I feel this was one of the best movies I saw in the last five years, but then again I might be biased because I love chinese films and chinese culture.
There is still a lot of unreleased music from the movie... 😞 e.g. 1:02:20 of part 1 when Cao Cao is sailing through the Yangtze River. 1:25:59 during the banquet 1:39:00 the scene with the bagua formation
The Great Battle of Cepi ( Red Cliff ) where Cao Cao loz his 800,000 strong navy, calvary and infantry in one night due to military genius Zhuge Liang's strategem is now a tourist landmark.

It's been 15 years, I am still listening this OST (:
the movie and it's OST are severely underrated. it's john woo's best "atmospheric" film - you get transported to the three kingdoms just watching it.
@@JT-gl5ou Agreed, the Three Kingdoms era itself underappreciated by most History buffs
This is my go to when I feel happy 😁
Still listening to it

THE best movie I've ever seen after LOTR. Grand scale, awescome graphics and acting. It was such an eye candy watching the battle scenes.
Check out Waterloo (1970) - phenomenal battle scenes - unrivalled to this day IMO.

I fell in love with the movie just from this song in the very beginning. Thank you so much for uploading this.
Red Cliff... possibly one of my favorite epics ever. Three Kingdoms is an awesome story.
When I play Dynasty Warriors, I mute the in-game background music and play this (and a couple other soundtracks) instead.

Wonderful movies (part A and B) and outstanding music. From the West, greetings and thanks to China for such a wonderful historical film.

Your boy Kongming did a really good job there at the Red Cliff eighteen hundreds years ago--until he met Eiko❤️
I should add that I feel this was one of the best movies I saw in the last five years, but then again I might be biased because I love chinese films and chinese culture.
