No Hard Drive to record to and pressing 'record' takes you to the APP doesn't actually record it just creates a playlist.

@@allthingstech it’s not even close to Sky Q. Zero recording options for BBC, ITV, C4 & C5. All content must be accessed via catch-up. Currently no C5 catch-up app. Not all content records to the cloud for other channels - whole manner of streaming rights restrictions but no prior warning to the customer - they find out when they can’t watch their programme. Poor peak brightness makes Sky’s HLG HDR sports look rather dull. Not a fan of his lack of mentioning screen flicker (admittedly this is potentially fixable with firmware upgrade) and the poor quality Pucks, which need about 10 reboots per day.

    • @mohammeddin277

I would get it if it could record programmes

    • @user-wj4xw6pb8h
      @user-wj4xw6pb8h 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

@@allthingstech another thing to mention is that the aerial is for backup only and will only work when the user disconnects the broadband from the TV. If the Sky TV services are cancelled, the user can’t even access a TV guide for Freeview channels as the only EPG is the Sky one… it essentially is just a glorified Sky box and should be steered clear of if you’re after a new TV. I would seriously only ever suggest this to somebody who was happy with the lower brightness, and never intended on cancelling Sky services.

  • @Iwaslemon87

It’s an odd proposition to buy really. There are some positives like the remote not having the sponsored Netflix button and actually having decent sound for once. (I appreciate the iMac reference since that’ll be my next computer upgrade for the exact same reasons)! However if your not going to get sky tv, then the entire interface seems pretty pointless. With sky packages (even with sky Q) being very expensive plus with things like charging extra for 4K (things that should be included as standard in 2021). It’s clearly a tactic to keep people in the sky ecosystem and prevent them from cancelling the service. The advantage of old sky was being able to record shows and then skip the ads, now sky want to charge you for that! From a tech standpoint. The lack of 120Hz, VRR etc just means that it’s a product that isn’t really an upgrade if you already have a 4K tv. You could probably find something better and cheaper if you shop around. For that, I just couldn’t recommend it to anyone

@@lukeyguyy You're confused. If you want the TV on finance then the finance agreement is at whatever period you ask for, but the sky contract itself is 1 month. If you so wanted to you could get the TV on finance today, cancel the sky contract after one month, and still be paying off the tv in 2 years time, which would be rather pointless as it's basically just a sky branded monitor with a sub par TPvision panel riddle with banding issues, software bugs, and hardware limitations the consumer shouldn't expect at this price point.

@@Yonner666 Can you explain how the content actually gets to the TV? This was missing from his review. Is this 5G or LTE? I've owned the LG 49in 4K Nanoncell LED TV for over a year. Where it excels is having the inbuilt apps of Apple TV+, Netflix, Now and Prime Video. Nice video. I watched the Sky Glass press launch and the concept sounded really cool. One thing I don’t like though is the playlist function instead of being able to record. I have been a Sky customer for 8 years now and currently have a Sky Q HDR box along with an LG sound bar and and LG OLED tv so I would be taking a big drop in picture quality if I decided to purchase Sky Glass. Me personally if you already have Sky Q and a decent TV then stick with it. Sky Glass sounds promising but at the moment strikes me as being a bit 'unfinished'.
The lack of any option to download and store content locally is a huge oversight in my opinion when they could easily have added an option to use the USB ports for external storage even if it isn't the most elegant solution for most casual viewers. The big issue though is that if anything goes wrong with the Sky part of the TV then the whole TV has to be replaced. All in one solutions sound like a good idea on paper - reduced cables and power leads - but do come with their own issues if they break down. Also, Sky really haven't given this TV much thought in terms of gaming support with its disappointing lack of VRR support and its 60 Hz display.
In my opinion, anyone interested in buying a Sky Glass TV would be best to wait 1-2 years before doing so as future models will undoubtedly be better and have more features. It's never good to be an early adopter, especially when its a manufacturer's first attempt at a new product.

Surely the biggest drawback to Sky Glass is the inability to record and store programs? We watch and record a lot of stuff, so we can view at convenient times, plus speed through the ads etc. With Glass , Sky is changing the experience of TV. Or am I missing something? In all the promotions by Sky for Glass, nowhere do I see this lack of recording and storage mentioned. The Glass in itself is very good TV but as a Sky subscriber I wonder where they are going. I’m holding off purchasing.

Cheers for the in-depth review, it's not a bad start from Sky BUT I can't believe that they haven't put a Hard Drive in it as well because that is a Major Part of having a Sky Box and one of the most used features, so we can set it up to record our favourite programs while we're out and always have something to watch !!
Making it a Streaming Only Device was the wrong way to go in my opinion, unless they're going to allow us to attach our own Hard Driives and give us back this feature, then that would be alright as it will obviously help them with manufacturing costs thus keeping the price down for the consumer !!
That's my thoughts on it anyway, although, everyone I've spoken to about this has agreed with me, Soo.....Hopefully Sky listens to the people and fixes it !?!?

Looks great and I was Initially intrested. However the lack of ability to record programs in my opinion is a massive missed opportunity and for me a deal breaker.
Due to my working hrs, I very very rarely watch live tv, but record any series and watch them weeks if not months later when I finally get a chance. Of course relying on streaming only, they quite often only have a program up for a week or two before it gets replaced, so isn’t practical for me at all.
Also not having 120hz certainly for modern gaming is another design flaw. If I’ve paid hundreds to get the latest 120hz gaming console, then why on Earth would I pair it with a tv that reduces its ability’s.
The idea in itself is great, and while this first release isn’t for me, due to the missing features above, I will be following the hardware closely and IF a time comes when they fix the issues, Wouldn’t take much to add a 2tb ssd drive into a tv that wide. Then it could well be a tv that gets a home in my house in the future.

TV cost £649 (43"), £849 (55") and £1049 (65"). Your paying an extra up to £80 p/m for Sky itself. Plus extra for the cast devices to other TV’s. Say an 18 month contract on top (£1440). Almost £3000 in total. If the TV breaks, your basically screwed. Can guarantee you’ll have to have Sky Broadband and talk in a years time. Better of with the 48” LG/Sony OLED TV or Sony 4K for £800 tbh. Personally, I’d like to see a 4K/OLED with Dolby atmos/vision and HDMI 2.1 non smart TV. Can plug in a chromecast for smart services. My thoughts:
    1. Not an option for those with low broadband speeds.
    2. Households will need at least 50-70 mbps for UHD programming streaming, assuming small to average household and not too many other devices hammering the internet
    3. If a subscriber leaves Sky with a Q box, all one loses is the Sky Q box. But after Sky Glass is paid off, does the interface still work for non-Sky apps? Probably not. Is there an EPG for terrestrial and digital TV or is the Glass now just junk?
    4. Sky will no doubt add an upgrade option to keep customers hooked and paying more. If not bought outright, one can upgrade to the latest and Sky recycle the old TV
    5. Sky could offer a Sky Glass+Q option in the future. So some content can be recorded but most of the programming that is watched can just be the playlist

We have just bought this for our Mom as she has dementia and struggles to remember how to use the TV so we can watch the screen on the CCTV camera and say Hello Sky play channel 101 for example through our Amazon Alexa Drop in service and the TV will switch over!!! Absolutely awesome we are so pleased so far.
