That being said, I wouldn't even know what to look for when opening the hood of that thing so it's good that william knows which of the parts are bad and need work?

First mistake was asking, just buy one and she will eventually get over it. I can 10000% guarantee a skid steer is a way better investment then marriage
I'm no expert at all, just a guy who works with old diesel equipment, but for what it's worth - I've seen worse. I was expecting the engine bay to be one big brown-red dustball, but it doesn't look rusty at all, it actually looks pretty clean. Not that that's a final indicator of condition but it tells me that it'll be in better shape than one of similar vintage used in rough conditions. I'm guessing this piece was used for construction work? $14k might have been a bit high but you did manage to score a Bobcat - if you're gonna overpay for a piece of used machinery I don't know if you can do much better than a Bobcat, they handle superbly. Pins and bushings are a pretty common thing to have to replace after a significant amount of use, so that might be worth looking at.
I’ve been a commenter for 112 years and I have never seen someone use a spade so incorrectly. It’s common sense that a spade is used for gravel and a shovel is used for dirt. You need to do better.
