That's a special moment. Thanks for sharing! Very nice landings to be the first ones. You don't have to be as cotious about this quad as you have to be about the DJI FPV. Mostly it's just the props that has to be replaced but you will learn how to repair things when you start to really push it :)
You just got me re-excited about the journey. Watching you flip that thing up in the air and it just coast, gave me the motivation to keep going. Thank you Sir.
ELRS isn't as bad as people make it out. Just gotta download the firmware to your desktop then drag and drop it to the flash screen to flash the firmware. Many vids explaining it. The diversity is with the learning curve imo.
Omg I was very nervous, Ifly the Avata and the Potatoe but a real 5 inch is totally different without the pause/N/S buttons and the ability to move the cam take some getting used to
@@RandyCAstleMPM I remember the feeling well. I went from the simulator directly to 5 inch. I was fine once I was in the air but very nervous at takeoff and maybe even more nervous landing! There's still times when I'm running my camera angle a bit high that close landings unnerve me a bit. Enjoy the ride, looks like you've already got the skills...not many guys doing inverted yaws on their 2nd pack 🙂
@@UnlimitedVerticalThat's pretty brave, I couldn't imagine going from sim to carbon 😶🌫️ that's pretty awesome! But yea landing is the worst for me lol Thanks dude I appreciate you watching and your kind words. Vere encouraging! 🤘
you can adjust gimbal tension on the boxer with the little screws on the faceplate of the gimbals you only need to open the radio if you want to more resistance on the throttle you can charge the lipos to 4.2V per cell (25.2V total on 6s) just dont forget to use the balance lead so the cells are equalized you can fly the lipos down to ~3.5V per cell (21V)
Yeah mbps I think is your video link strength. Great rippin bro! Congrats on the first carbon quad! My first build is not far behind, bro! Thanks for sharing with us, Randy!
Thanks Joe!! I can't wait to see u rip some carbon, ur a beast!! It has the HD bars like the fpv drone and has Mbps. But theirs no RC bars. How do I tell when the quad is losing signal? 🤔
@RandyCAstleMPM should have focus mode. Turn that on. When losing signal, the edges will go fuzzy. Not sure honestly if the video link strength is adjustable or automatic. But I just ordered the avata so I'll have Integra goggles soon. Ill find out more with use.
Hell yeah bro, this was me a couple of years ago! The good thing about flyin FPV and building quads is that it never gets old, always fun af. I still fly simulators a few hours a week too, love it 💯💯
Thanks bro! I figured if I crashed it would get a lot of views 😁. Iv had the fpv drone for 1.5 yrs and the Avata for like 6 months so I'm pretty familiar with the controls but a 5incher is scary with no safety's to rely on and no landing assistance. I guess I can put it in Atty mode but I'm not that familiar with it yet. Thanks for the support!!
Awesome flying! I Started off on a 2.5 and fried it after about month. Now I've got an Avata 2 controller for the sim. I'm going to grab the Avata 2 in a few weeks and use that until the goggles get unlocked. Then build a 5 inch with an 03 unit eventually.
I started flying a few weeks ago with a 2 inch and posted my first flight on youtube myself lol. Im hooked and going to buy the Avata 2 myself in about a month or so. I have already grown tired of this analog video. Makes me very insecure flying cause of the cutting in and out.
@@Nunyali5lx If you are already well versed in flying an open prop the Avata 2 may feel like a downgrade. The video is excellent, But performance-wise it's definitely limited. Don't get me wrong it's great to learn on, But even after a week I know I'm going to hit its limits pretty quickly. My next step would be something like what you already have.
Haha I was looking at the Nazgoul for about 2 seconds. I wanted something I could easily fix lol. Nazgoul has to many bells n whistles but yea I hear bad things about iflight. Thanks dude!
Nice dude, that's some good flying. I'm about to start soldering on my first fpv quad, full send 5 inch 6s. I'm flowing alright in the simulator but nowhere near as good as you. I went easy route and am using a Vista with the DJI transmitter. Should have bought a Boxer and ELRS receiver, can always add later. Can't wait to start ripping
Thanks bro! Good luck man, I want to build one but time is hard to come by. Think I'ma build a 3.5 inch, maybe a Grinderino. But hell yeah stick with it, if you can fly in the sim you can def fly in real life! 👍👍, the only bad thing with the DJI link is if you lose video you lose RC as well. That's the only reason I went ELRS but I'm glad I did now I know how to set them up in ELRS config and betaflight.
Your boxer comes with an extra set of springs ones hard springs the other are soft springs. Wait till you build your first drone you'll appreciate it more and learn how to fix the issue when you crash. Try the Quadmula F5 split siren. You'll love that frame. You can run your batteries down to 19 or 20 or 3 volts per cell anything under that you'll kill your batteries. Good job flying. I just went to the boxer ELRS from the dji black remote it's a challenge but we all learn from each other.
5" and 7" drones have enough control surface with its spinning props to almost glide like an RC wing would. I've spent a lot of time in the simulator, but I don't have any big boi drones myself... all the 5"+ drones in velocidrone can go upwards of 80mph
Looks amazing! I got a 5" kit coming this week. My first build and first 5" quad. Been flying about a year now with 2.5" and i'm excited to rip it up with the 5" for the first time! I"ll be shaking
I was always told to keep the throttle up until your ready to take off. Treat it like a trigger on a gun. Can't tell you how many times I've tripped the arm switch and that saved my butt
Nice rip, bro! As far as landing, just get close to the ground as you can and disarm. I practiced a pack every time i went out flying on just taking off and landing, now im pretty decent at landing. Like all things in FPV, more stick time is the answer! Lol! Subbed.
Hot glue inject the antennas if you don't plan on doing super long range. Especially if you plan on flying over Concrete.... Never worry about breaking antennas ever. And like I said the coverage is basically the same. And vecro for the Batts/frame.
Fun flights. I had a service guy this week who noticed my quad stuff and was asking me about it. He has a DJI FPV but didn't know it had a mode other than Normal and Sport. And told me about his super long range flights and having flown it to something like 400 meters up. I kindly suggested he review the FAA rules on recreational flying. And start flying his FPV in manual mode (after he flies in the sim).
That's awesome, That's crazy he didn't know about M mode. It's like a whole other Drone in Manual 😆. And thanks for letting him know some rules, the more ppl that follow them the better imo. Keep that FAA off our asses 🙏👍
nice vid! regarding the boxer battery pack: it's better to have two sets of 18650 (one always charged in the backpack) rather than one big one anyway. it lasts so long that you don't think about charging it and then some day you end up at a spot with a dead remote.
Everything I have read says dont discharge your lipos below 3.5v per cell. So you should be fine flying no lower than 21v on your 6S. Great flying by the way!
The Mbps displayed in the goggles is for your video link from the air unit to the goggles. Also definitely charge your batteries all the way. You won't hurt them. As long as the charger recognizes you're charging a 6S pack, just let it go until it's complete. Great job on your first flight with a regular 5in!
So when i started in 2016 we didnt have sims to practice on but to just do it and clinch that butt hole real tight and say "It will be alright" 3 times in a row. My first hobby grade quad was the TBS Vendetta which still looks cool till this day. Yeah, it’s definitely fast and smoother because it’s basically a motherboard with propellers on it and a battery. The FPV has its purposes as do these little quad copters. What exactly did you have to do in Beta? Just curious cause I know nothing about it. I would like to get one of these that says bind and fly, but apparently you have to hook it up with beta flight

@@JustKeepLivingFPV Yes it is very nice especially for the price! im still getting used to it coming from the dji fpv rc 2. hope u get it soon the clear looks cool.
Congratulations on flying the 5 inch quad successfully the first time you took it off the ground. 1.) when you refer to the any fpv drone, just refer to it by referencing the size followed by quad. Ex.) “3 inch quad” because both aircraft, the one you just got and you are totally ripping, and the old quad are both fpv drones. Dude you’re pretty good at flying. The batteries also drain fast. Watch them whenever you takeoff and then do some punch outs. They’ll drain almost immediately and bounce back. You looked cool doing it man. 100%
Good job man! But just so you know they are all "fpv drones" so you may confuse people with that considering you are now flying a real fpv drone. Also ehat radio are you flying? All gimbals are adjustable how just depemds on what radio. But again good job! Im not hating at all just giving you a pre hater heads up.. P.s. im glad you kept your pants. 😅
Battery position will not really be an iossue with such a powerfull machine. Better is to make sure your battery-leads can not be cut by the props. Good maiden !
First time flying a 5-in carbon quad I have flown the potato and the avata but it's a whole different ball game without those safeties. Not my first time flying manual, I'm sure you could tell I probably should have specified that 🤷, I appreciate you watching brother!
I double strap my batteries, use one kevlar for strength and one RDQ strap for grip. The radiomaster batteries are terrible, your probably better with the vape shop batteries, or at least they was last year, maybe they started using better manufacturer since then, but i found them to be some of the worst batteries, i had bad cells in my zorro and the 5000mah 2s pack was garbage
Yea I got an extra strap I'ma prolly start using. Yea the vape batteries r awesome lol. Haven't tested the 2s pack yet. Just got it last week. Thanks bro!
Yeah I would have to agree I'm on a 3.5 kick right and if I had that at the start, I think I would have progressed faster as a newbie, but I got started in 2017 we didn't have anything close to this performance then, besides you really have to fly a 3.5 you can't cheat with weight and momentum like you can on a 5
So when you charge your battery's the charger will stop when there full ,very bad not to charge them all the way and when you aren't usei g them make sure u charge them to storage voltage ok BIG DEAL !!!!!
You're potato DJI drone will sit in the closet now trust me haha I did the same except i only used the potato for like a few weeks before i got a carbon drone , i realised right away i made the wrong/right choice by buying the potato... right choice cuz i got the goggles so i got a component and a way into the hobby.... but i wasted 800 bux on a drone that really is now just a recovery drone or to let kids have a go on normal mode.
Pants secured is very important
most definitely lol
I just take mine off right before the goggles go on.
As a brand new pilot myself, I can 100% confirm this is #3 on my check list.
Nice to see you being so humble. Doing great! Just practise!

21v is low, land at 21v / 3.5v cell
The mb is the signal from the air unit to your goggles
Have fun!!!
Bro I just went from an Avata to 5in GEPRC Mark 5. I was damn near shaking my first few flights. No safety net. I love it though.
That's awesome! I still love flying the Avata but the 5 inch is on another level 🤘
@@RandyCAstleMPM it truly is on another level. I charged up all 4 Avata batteries and both my LIPO's for the Mark 5 and also my Air 3 batteries. Tomorrow's weather is going to be great so I'm going to burn though some batteries and knock the dust off the Avata!!
Such an awesome hobby!!
@ryankerniskey836 That's awesome! Love it! You almost have the same setup I have. I got the Air3, Avata, Dji FPV, Skyline mk3 5inch 6s 🤘
Landing not an issue with a carbon framed quad - at least a reasonable non crash landing.
That was a beautiful landing.
What was that sound at 10:48? Did you hit something?
That was the sound of me taking the throttle to zero. Lol
Pack 2 or 2 pac?
Both!
OH SNAP!!!!! SEND IT!!!
You kept saying that this drone you are flying "is a big improvement over the FPV drone". What did you mean by that? 🤔
The Dji fpv drone aka the Potato
I ordered a clear case for my boxer through getfpv and its been 2 months no case.
I ordered my Boxer from Get FPV. It arrived in about a week. Did you try contacting customer service? What's the tracking say?
@RandyCAstleMPM yeah I too got my radio fast from getfpv, it's the clear shell I'm waiting on now. Boxer is a beast.
@@JustKeepLivingFPV Yes it is very nice especially for the price! im still getting used to it coming from the dji fpv rc 2. hope u get it soon the clear looks cool.
@RandyCAstleMPM I'm going to paint the inside red I think that would look cool.
This where the addiction starts.. 😅
Oh I'm hooked!! 😁
Lol… as long as you are I’m happy.. I been happy sense I started.. looking forward too more videos
gotcha lol, il have to look at that voltage next time, Thanks bro!!
Appreciate you watching and the tips 🤘 Thanks Dude!
Is this the 1st time ever flying a 5 inch or just this kwad ???
First time flying a 5-in carbon quad I have flown the potato and the avata but it's a whole different ball game without those safeties. Not my first time flying manual, I'm sure you could tell I probably should have specified that 🤷, I appreciate you watching brother!
Hey bro I fly the skyliner mk3 as well I found out 2 straps are better then 1 bro
It came with an extra strap, il have to try it out, Thanks man!
@RandyCAstleMPM no problem homie 👊
3 min flight time still seems mental to me, lol. 😮😢
I'm getting about 4.5 mins. Gotta be easy on the throttle tho. 4 mins of pure adrenaline lol 🤘
"i was tired of waiting so i went to the vape shop to get some 18650s" why the hell havent i thought of this. how are they holdin up?
😆, they worked well. I have since got ten the battery pack but I still have the 18650s for my vape lol 🤘
Thanks bro!
21 volts
show me your rate pls
Il have to check on in beta flight when I get home. Rotor Riot tuned it for me 😁
prob betaflight defaults if i had to guess
🤘🤘
Anyone who is new. 5in is all theater and marketing bs. Not worth the hype. 3.5 just as good and fun and don’t need to register it
Yeah I would have to agree I'm on a 3.5 kick right and if I had that at the start, I think I would have progressed faster as a newbie, but I got started in 2017 we didn't have anything close to this performance then, besides you really have to fly a 3.5 you can't cheat with weight and momentum like you can on a 5
Thats def gonna be my next quad! 3.5 is awesome no doubt!
So when you charge your battery's the charger will stop when there full ,very bad not to charge them all the way and when you aren't usei g them make sure u charge them to storage voltage ok BIG DEAL !!!!!
Thanks for reminding me that's a good point to store them at a correct voltage. 🙏
You're potato DJI drone will sit in the closet now trust me haha
I did the same except i only used the potato for like a few weeks before i got a carbon drone , i realised right away i made the wrong/right choice by buying the potato... right choice cuz i got the goggles so i got a component and a way into the hobby.... but i wasted 800 bux on a drone that really is now just a recovery drone or to let kids have a go on normal mode.
U keep saying this flys bettdr than a fpv drone ???😮 your flying one thats what that is a fpv drone
Myfault lol I was talking about the potato 😆
Congrats on your first real quad bro. Looks like a beast. Enjoy👍
