Before becoming a musician Greg taught English at the University of Cal, Berkeley. He later went on to marry singer Freda Payne who had a big hit called Band Of Gold back in 1970. Greg’s mother pushed him to be a musician at a young age teaching him how to sing and play piano. After teaching he followed his dream and co wrote and song Shake You Down. I met Greg back in 1985 before this song was released he would frequent my restaurant on Staten Island by the SI Ferry. He live on SI because it was cheaper and easy to take the ferry to his Manhattan studio. I would continue seeing and talking to Greg for about 6 months before this song was released. He did tell me he signed with Columbia records and was about to release and album featuring Shake You Down. Once the album was released the song became an instant hit and I never saw or heard from him again!

If you listen to the old record you can hear where the background instrumental which was a continuous loop ended and started again. It barely perceptible but on the old recording you can hear it. I love all the little imperfections in the old stuff. I miss this smooth sound too.

In fact I think I ended up playing on a recording in a home studio in Long Island, NY where Abbott did his tracks for that song.
