    • @kathywilkowski725
      @kathywilkowski725 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      And a great song it is, music written by American film composer, the late Alex North. The lyricist was Hy Zaret. They worked together on the 1965 film, Ghost.

    • @kathywilkowski725
      @kathywilkowski725 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Correction: Unchained Melody was composed (by North & Zaret) for a film called Unchained, released in 1955. It was later used as the theme song for the 1965 film, Ghost.

      No doubt, Elvis could've been at 110% and he couldn't have come close to Bobby. The most impressive thing, in my opinion, was how easy he made this look. He has a 4 or 5 octive range and without any of the crap singers use today, it was just him, the mic and his talent... Fantastic song, and a gifted singer.

    When they first came out they sang with such pure heart and soul some people said they were black ! But, This is Bobbie Hatfield of the two and he his white with blue eyes. Bill Medley in a duet sings the deeper sounds. What I have to say is no matter what color you are, your skin, your eyes and hair; if you have "it" ! You have "it" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They both had beautiful voices and I was a teenager in the 60s when I first heard them on AM radio - they blew me away with the melodies and beautiful voices and still do today !!

    In 1955, three versions of the song (by Les Baxter, Al Hibbler, and Roy Hamilton) charted in the Billboard Top 10 in the United States,[5] and four versions (by Al Hibbler, Les Baxter, Jimmy Young, and Liberace) appeared in the Top 20 in the United Kingdom simultaneously, an unbeaten record for any song.[6][7] The song continued to chart in the 21st century, and it was the only song to reach number one with four different recordings in the UK until it was joined by Band Aid 30's "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in 2014.[8][9]
    Of the hundreds of recordings made, the Righteous Brothers' version in July 1965, with a solo by Bobby Hatfield, became the jukebox standard after its release. Hatfield changed the melody in the final verse and many subsequent covers of the song are based on his version. The Righteous Brothers recording achieved a second round of great popularity when featured in the film Ghost in 1990. In 2004, it was Number 27 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema.

      Not sure if this is true but , I heard that the way the righteous brothers got their name was , while they were singing a song , someone in the audience jumped up and said , wow , that’s righteous Brothers ,& that’s how they got that name . Even if it’s not true ( i’m not sure ) but it’s a good story anyway ,& could be true .

    Perhaps Millennials get it when we Boomers say modern music leaves us rather empty.

      I'm a millennial and I already knew modern pop music is trash. Most of it's written by the same few people, distributed to interchangeable performers, and modified heavily on a computer.
      So, now, when you listen to the radio, every few songs sound like the beginning of a really terrible album and then your heart sinks when it clicks that each song is by a different performer.
      It's truly a depressing feeling.
      Fortunately, good music still gets made. You've just gotta go find.
