The Dynamic Superiors was a group that started performing at my father's night club called the Shelter Room i met Tony and the rest of the group Tony had no cut cards he had that voice and wasn't afraid to be who he was RIP TONY !!! And his brother George was also in the group, I'm so glad the group was recognized and being from DC
@Greg Normal just became a fan this year...I always loved Shoe shoe shine growing up didn't find out til this year...I learned Tony's story and now I admire him and his unique voice
My Dad was in the original group (road manager and sound man) I'm currently working on a documentary for The Dynamic Superiors - holla at me with your favorite story
This song was originally recorded by The Dynamic Superiors in 1974. The Dynamic Superiors were from Washington, D. C. and recorded on Motown Records label. The songs on their first two albums were mostly written by the husband-and-wife team Ashford & Simpson. They recorded with moderate success throughout the 1970s. One of their bestselling hits was "Shoe, Shoe Shine" in 1974. They were unique in that Tony Washington was openly gay, and sometimes dressed in drag onstage.
Oscar, you are spot on with your observations. Also, note how the lead singer on this version changed the line "Saying it is what it ain't" to "Saying it ain't what it is"? This switch changed the flow of the entire passage because the next rhyme line is "That a poor man cain't" . The way they did this made no sense. Plus, let's face it, the Dynamic Superiors singer had a crisper falsetto, and the DS choreography was flawless with every movement telling the story. This guys high note is flat!
@NigerianRocker THIS IS WHAT KILLS ME , THESE CATS ARE JUST TRYING TO KEEP THE MUSIC WE LOVE ALIVE AND CATS LIKE YOU , WANT TO KNOCK THE BROTHERS IN HEAD , IF THIS IS GARBAGE GIVE ME A BAG OF IT. ALSO THE ORIGINAL LEAD SINGER IS NO LONGER WITH US , THIS IS AN HONOR TO HIS MUSIC. IF YOU DON'T HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO SAY , SAY NOTHING AT ALL, THAT'S WHAT MAMA USED TO SAY. GROWN UP.
This is not the original group. The group you are referring to, was the Dynamic Superiors, which appeared on Sout Train in 1975 and recorded songs from 1974-1977. They were from Washington, D.C. and their lead singer Tony Wshington alledgedly died from AIDS. They broke up after 1977. The guys in this video are amateur "singers for hire" from Long Island, NY who sing everyone's songs i.e. (Temptations, Blue Notes, Dynamic Superiors, etc). They have no connections to the original group.
Some amateurs do get paid very well. My comments were not meant to be an attack. In fact, I spoke well of their other two videos. Still, if they are as good as you say they are; then this was not their best rendition. I'm afraid too many people that enjoy classic R&B will disagree they are better than the original artists singing the original recordings. Every promoter feels their singers are the best ever. Nevertheless, I wish you all much success.
@Oscar2098 YOU CALL THESE GUYS AMATEURS, BUT THEY GET PAID AND SING CIRCLE AROUND MOST OF THE OLD GROUPS, WATCH THEM IN PERSON IN CONCERT AND THEN TELL ME THESE ARE AMATEURS.
This was awight, but there is something missing the Dynamics superiors was the real deal though I want to hear the original. ain't nothing like the real thing....
He did ok , however he needs to sure his notes a little better ( he chops off the high parts) roll them / prolong them / high tone then smooth it off. Example : Instead of ending a word that ends with A , roll it to sing Aaaaaa 😎
Good, but don't have the same depth and soul as the Dramatic Superiors. Need more heart and soul in the song, it lacks something. Still pretty good though.
Question: "were are the old members?.They're worst than Berry Gordon. And I ask again"what happen to the song they did on Soul Train". Answer: Tony Washington is dead; the group broke up in 1977. The other two original videos for the song were removed due to a copyfight infringement complaint that was filed.

Of course, he can't top Tony Washington, but still pretty good.
You maybe right but there were other outstanding singers during that era 1975-1985 that could sing falsetto as good or better !
Beautiful❤️❤️

Great!
excellent
Not bad, but for now, I'll stick with the Dynamic Superiors' version.
Me too!
@Greg Normal I'm a 70's music lover. The group is not bad at all but I love the Dynamic Superiors original Shoe shoe shine. Have a blessed day.
Not bad Tony had a voice that's hard to duplicate
Is there a video anywhere of them back in the day?????
Who is Taste😮 sounds good though
He may not Tony, but he sounds better then the other groups that trys to pull it off horribly

@jgarrett5150 don't hate jgarrett5 150, I've seen these cats live and they sing most of the famous groups out the building.
🥰💔❤🖤🙏🏾
Respond to this video...
THE SINGING IS GOOD , WHAT HAVE YOU DONE LATELY, OH NOTHING. STOP HATEING

Most certainly not as good as the late great Tony Washington the original group, but they sounds pretty good
@lbouling
Does anyone have tapes of the livevshows The Superiors did in DC that you know of? Is there any way I could get a hold of a tape?
The original group has been re-posted under a different video.
Where are the original ones???????
@fresh1173 It ain't hatin'. It's observing. This group MAY be good. I can only go on what I see in this video. And what I see doesn't cut it.
@Oscar2098 YOU CALL THESE GUYS AMATEURS, BUT THEY GET PAID AND SING CIRCLE AROUND MOST OF THE OLD GROUPS, WATCH THEM IN PERSON IN CONCERT AND THEN TELL ME THESE ARE AMATEURS.

@lbouling PRETTY TONY , WE KNOW WHERE YOU ARE FROM.
Lol, Saying it ain't what it is, lol.... It should be "saying it is what it ain't"

Nice, but bro.. I know you know the words..sing the words,bro..
Copyright infringement. Even the video with just the album cover also got "the hook." These guys are okay, not great but they are trying.
The American story of Donald trump
I'll give him props on vocals. However I've never been a fan of covers. The original singers- Dynamic Superiors the truth
