This is our first time hearing and watching these performances. We are re-experiencing classic rock music, an album at a time, with fresh perspectives and active ears, so that Dev can learn and appreciate this music more, and so that Mike can relive his childhood.

There will never be a band like rush again, how can three people make such amazing music and tell amazing stories
For 40 plus years I still watch in awe what these 3 could do on stage.
The Trees is Rush everything that makes Rush in 5 minutes, different time signatures, keys, from classical guitar to kicking rock all while delivering some of the most intelligent lyrics around. I always get a sniffle when I hear Neil's voice on the into to Xanadu.
Xanadu is one of the best songs ever written. A clinic for drummers
Thanks, guys, for including Broon’s Bane! I can’t believe this was never released on a studio album. So beautiful.
Camping with Alex…I am in! I have often suggested (begged) that he do a full album of solo acoustic material. His knowledge/use of chords and chord progressions is sublime! Such an emotive/intuitive player. The Master! He can do it all.
He certainly can! 🎸 And thank you for the donation! We shall acknowledge it in our next vid (Black Sabbath: Master of Reality, Pt 1)
Some of the things Peart was putting in there get by most people. The choke cymbals in Xanadu, the traditional grip in La Villa Strangiato as well as that double snare roll fill at the end. Wow!
Throwing sticks around...😅
Peace, thank you. ✌️
The "special effects" were just what was projected on the backdrop, at the concert. Just FYI.
Also, Geddy's double neck is a bass at the top and 12-string guitar below. 👍🏽
Always have a comment for Rush ! The greatest 3 pce. orchestra ever!! Been a fan since the beginning in '75 ,seen them a dozen times . Welcome to the family. Greetings from YYZ 🇨🇦
Easily your best RUSH video! You two were very much into this one. Thank You so much for the awesome production! Preserve this video, near the top of the Archive! RUSH for LIFE.
@MrBedZeppelin tis some of their best work so far and by that I mean🫵🏻Music for busy people and Rush(at the time)of this recording anyway. Cheers excellent job with the editing and segues.🥂👍🤘🖖✌️
I know Geddy loves the all around great sound and versatility of his Fender Jazz Bass but I sure missed😢 the sound and bark of the Rickenbacker ❤😊
Just imagine playing bass, keyboards, bass pedals, and singing. I can’t help but tear up every time I see this performance. Saw it live in 1981, and this just transports me right back to my 18 year old self. Neil’s passing absolutely crushed my soul.
Did you see it in Montreal or somewhere else ?
Actually, at the Brendan Byrne Arena in New Jersey @@paulcarfantan6688
I saw RUSH at least 25 times over the years. A great band who always put on a great show. Never get tired of listening to them.
The best thing about this version(ESL 1981)is to see how much they evolved in just 8 years to 1988’s A Show of Hands video. Neil still had ALL the real acoustic percussion pieces to play live and reproduce the songs as they were originally recorded. Alex and Geddy still using guitar cables vs wireless transmitters. The Taurus bass pedals and Mini Moog keyboards and synthesizers were soon replaced with MIDI software and samples of the prerecorded music to be triggered or called up in real time during the live performance.🤯🥇🥁🎸🎹🎤🤘
Proud to be a Canadian. Great reaction, thanks 👍🏻🇨🇦
Trees always makes me cry..so beautiful and prophetic
Alex's tone on his 12 string is almost bell-like in a lot of places on Xanadu. Amazing!
You see how fast he switches back to the 6-string at 15:44? Amazing!
@@matthewhoag2609I’ve played guitar for 40 years and I’m always amazed at how good they were at such a young age
Great finish. Love the Time Machine Tour improv's they did with La Villa Strangiato, and Working Man.
Dropping acid and going to see Rush was always a blast!
🤩
The first time I saw Rush was in 1981 on the Moving Pictures Tour when I was 17 and I'll never forget it...other than Zeppelin Rush is and has been my favorite band and I never got to see Zeppelin live
One of the greatest albums ever!.... fuck.. the best ever
Rush had great hair!
I am envious
It’s that Pert shampoo🤔 😂🤘
I've been to a handful of Rush shows back in the day. What great showmen. Their shows were very understated, great lighting, sound (for an arena) was always on point. They always put on a well crafted, entertaining show
Rush always sounded like a bigger band. Surprise! Just 3 talented guys!
The official music video for La Villa Strangiato is a live version with no audience. It's completely different than the album version. It was recorded how they wanted to initially record it in one take.
Absolutely the best band ever! I had never missed them on their musical journey for the whole 40 years of touring. Thank you Dirk,Lerxst and Pratt aka.The Professor who inspired me to become a drummer.
We were front row for the first time on the Time Machine Tour and this was the last time i was able to go see them, and 23rd Rush Concert for me. Amazing night.
Great reaction y’all! Keep the RUSH coming! Be well and God bless…. From Texas!!
Dev and Mike - If you liked the Trees/Xanadu from this concert, check out the Bytor and the SnowDog/ In the End/In the Mood and 2112 Grand Finale Medley from the same concert. It will blow your mind! Alex just kills it!!! It's like 3 minutes from these 4 songs and it is simply astounding!
Perfectly put. Feel the power, the energy and the precision. A farewell to kings, indeed.
I was at that Cleveland show in 2011! Check out the performance of Working Man from that concert... it's amazing!
23:48 Blink and you'll miss it. Neil switches the grip in his left hand in mid-air in-between strokes. If not unusual, at least it's pretty cool.
They still give me goosebumps.
If theres a better half hour of live music it was probably also done by Rush. These guys were incomparable, the best of the best. 😊
Oh, and btw, the Time Machine concert *started* with Alex dressed in coat and tie… very snazzy. 😉 The La Villa footage was towards the end, where he got more comfortable.
You guys put out high quality videos time after time- the editing in this video was fantastic. Keep up the good work. 👏👏👏
Dev and Mike
Last clip of this reaction: Time Machine tour, my friends and I were fortunate enough to see Rush live in concert when Professor Peart still living back in Oct of 2010. Both of you probably wondering why this concert recorded in Cleveland. Cleveland is when local rock station with Call Letters, WMMS 1st played Rush's songs on air. Prior to WMMS, Rush had a difficult time to break in USA music market. Rush has never forgotten about WMMS after band made it big.
Three of my favorite Rush tunes!
ANY Time I'm in a LOW or SAD Mood, "La Villa" ALWAYS Brightens My "Mood for a Day"!!!! Genius is Infectious!!!! The Coolest 4/3 Break Down!!!
You guys really put a lot of effort into your videos and it shows, great stuff.
I don't remember much at my age, but I do remember those massive lighting-system arms. And lasers. Lots of lasers.
Astonishing these two shows were 30 years apart (1981-2011). Amazing the skills of all three held up that well and their synch/chemistry did as well.
As complex as this band’s music is, what stands out to me is its restraint. All three are in the running for best ever at their instruments. None of these guys ever seems to step on the others.
I keep coming back to Alex here. Unlike many rock guitarists of his stature, he has no “diva.” Too nice, too much a team guy.
Within the team concept, Alex did have some “statement” solos. One was at the end of Xanadu, just after Geddy’s last vocal verse. Another was in La Villa Strangiato. The third was in “The Garden” which was essentially the band’s swan song.
Broon’s Bane 🔥🔥🔥
The intro is polka, a call back to the video intro to the concert where the " Time Machine" gives the band RASH different incarnations. Pretty entertaining in it's own right.
YAY!!! YAY!!! YAY!!! **Luvit** Ya ALL **ROCK** Weeeeee!
This was the first encore song, followed by Working Man, after a nearly 3 hour show.
It's like a magic show!
this version of Xanadu is my "stuck on a desert island with only one song", song.....ill never grow tired of it and still will hear little thinsg every now and then I havent picked up before....its musical perfection....ive listened to it since it came out (yes im old...lol)...wore out cassettes and VCR versions of this....I listen to it most ever day....
Fun Fact> "Perfecting" this song took More Time than the rest of the Album!! Thank God they Took their Time to Craft a MASTERPIECE of Genius!!!
The Trees is one of the most brilliantly penned songs ever for its lyrics. What a great way to illustrate what happens when "equality" is demanded to such an extent that the only way to satisfy it is with the destruction of all.
I was front row for this tour, last time of 23 times I was able to see them live, amazing night.
Soooo tight! I swear I have yet to see them make a mistake.
Camping with Alex. That would fantastic! Not only would you be listening to some incredibly beautiful music but you would also be killing yourself laughing as Alex is hilarious.
Another beautiful acoustic piece from Alex is Hope live in Holland.
Also, to see the guys having fun please check out Dinner with Rush where the wine and the jokes were flowing.
Cheers
Yes,Xanadu was a fan favorite . I recommend reading Geddy’s My Effin Life for insight on their change in fashion over the years
I have seen Rush five times from front row at the permanent waves tour to back row at the R40 tour. Amazing band amazing shows every time . But I have to tell you that I saw Primus in 2022 . Who were incredibly influenced by Rush Performing all their great stuff and then after the intermission.... the entirety of the farewell to Kings album.! They were playing the same guitars that you are seeing here that Rush gave them Amazing concert. And if you haven't reacted to Primus please do. LOL Keep up the great work thanks for listening.👍✌🖖🍻🇨🇦
You know, people hear the music they play and while many 'get it' many really never do.
There are so many key pieces of transitions that any slipped note or missed accent could trip the whole thing up and get them off track... Any little slip there'd be a completely different outcome... But there isn't.
Each one of them has to be so relied upon to hit their cues, and not for a 2-3 minute reel mind you, the whole outcome of each 5 to +10 minute songs. A broken guitar string, a broken drum head, broken stick, electronic glitches, anything could occur to disrupt most any piece these guys play and through it all they play through it whether live or during recordings. The articulation is beyond remarkable for most any regular musician; and these guys put it together at such a high rate it's near mesmerizing. And believe me, their road crew is on top of everything so they deserve just as much credit. No catch net!
From one player to the next the reliability factor is off the charts. Someone not 'feeling it' yet to know when to urge one another or lay off... It was really cool.
They loved it. Creativity at its finest. Like passing the torch from one another and just strapping in and launching it out there. Sweet!
This is on the higest level.
Great rewiev.
Thank you for this vid. I saw this concert live at Red Rocks from 3rd row (in front of Alex) - the best night of my life! The finale song of the Time Machine Tour is Working Man. After 3 hours, they had enough energy left to give the performance of a life time, Please check it out: Working Man Live in Cleveland (I promise I will sub).
Just soooooo awesome that’s all I can say geniuses at work !!!
RUSH is the best Rock band, ever.
I was at the Cleveland concert. Was SUPER!!
Neils Mom once asked him why he never smiles during Rush songs...he said "playing Rush songs is hard, Mom".....
Just like you rarely see a smiling jogger...and if you happen to, be wary!
Yes Alex is the perfect "camp fire guitarist" because he can literally play for hours without stopping... watch some backstage videos... he just plays and plays and plays anything and everything...
For your own enjoyment, you need to watch them perform La Villa Strangiato in Rio. Alex "singing" a solo and introducing his band mates to the crowd, shouldn't be missed.
Another performance that you might like to see for your own enjoyment is "Still No Guitar" from another show on the Time Machine Tour, where Alex turned some technical issues into another great comedic moment. Have a great evening, and Rush on!
🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐
Too good.
Just awesome
Okay cool I hope Broo nes bane is their cool
Hey Guys!!! If you Have Already SEEN This, "Original" LIVE Version, oh well, If NOT, this is Performed on a stage with NO Audience, as a "Music Video", BEFORE MTV!!! You get to Hear the RAW Sounds that were in their Heads, just after the "Hemispheres" album was released. (The Clothing Style Choices, are from the ERA, so be Kind!) th-cam.com/video/eK1hmDpa8bo/w-d-xo.html
Trees is my favorite Rush tune. I actually won a car because of Trees.
29:35 "at that concert they were becoming more mainstream, because they had a few big hits under their belt." lmao hahaha
thanks. was great . saw them live twice
Alex doesn't get near the credit he deserves.
The Peccusion Instraments not coconuts but Temple Blocks
😁👍👍
Just asking...was this before "in-ears"??? Was Rush solely depending on what their ears heard on stage? Thanks.
I would say the ESL concerts were before in-ear monitors.
@@MusicforBusyPeople cool...thank you
Curious, how does one listen in surround sound with two channel headphones and no subwoofer?
We didn't listen in surround sound. It is provided as an option for TV viewers who have a surround sound setup.
@@MusicforBusyPeople"we're going to watch in 4k and surround sound" implied you were. It would have been more clear perhaps if you had said this version is mixed in surround sound for those who own the DVD, or not mention it at all. There are a few headphones that attempt to simulate surround sound. Also, if someone who was listening to this with the surround track selected, but who only had two speakers, or headphones, would not hear all of the elements of the music. Geddy's voice, mixed mainly for the center channel, would mostly be missing. So, I wondered what you might be hearing. But you've cleared that up. Thanks for the Rush reactions.
Hatchet. Ax ,and Saw...so sad
The Trees.. isn't about trees...
The remastered version of the videos suck, they are too dark. The originals you can see a lot more of what the guys are doing. 🤘RUSH🤘😃s from 🇨🇦
