@@asfanebi567 ermm I would say its okay but I experienced 3 times that the fan were loud and quite hot but not overheating as in like it shutdown. The last time which was this evening, that was when I flipped the Mac open and it showed up this colorful beach ball that just kept on going on and at last I just switch off my mba using (control+command and the Touch ID) and now its normal.

I recently bought the air 2020 i3 model after watching this video and I’m so glad I didn’t listen to all the negative reviews. I haven’t faced anything like heating or temperature issue and this is in India where it’s crazy hot! I had thought of buying the pro but couldn’t find it available anywhere so actually bought what was available. So glad that I saved money here. I’m an average user so finding the usage pretty smooth and effective. Love the new keyboard! I haven’t tried editing heavy duty videos yet so will update my review once I do that. But otherwise, highly recommend it!

Ferran Fusté Arjona Well if you wanted that much power with your computer why didn’t you go for the pro? The i7 on the air has weaker bench scores than the base i5 on the pro. Plus the pro is made for wanting that extra performance whereas the air isn’t. If you wanted to use all of that power than the air wouldn’t be a good choice. Remember this is a laptop for causal users. Also the pro has better cooking which would be able to withstand that higher processor.

I have had the 2020 MacBook Air for two weeks now and I've had absolutely no issues at all with overheating or high temperatures. I have done a few times where I had four or five videos running at one time in both Safari and chrome and the temperature never got near 100°C usually is around 70 to 80°. If you're using this for video editing in Final Cut Pro or premier you chose the wrong MacBook. As far as fans going on and making noise I have never heard the fans go on after the initial indexing of the computer at the first start up. I am very happy with this purchase. Keyboard kicks ass.

Watching 4K videos will burst the fan eventually on any machine. But the reason why we have overheating problems so quickly is a HW design issue. That is it. If Apple were put a bridge between fan and the heat sink then everything would be acceptable. This is the main reason why so many old macbook air users, like me, are shocked. Because the old one gets heated after 5-10 mins of heavy usage. This gets heated very very quickly. And it starts to burn your lap due to absence of bridge.
What I mean is that the problem is not 4K videos. The problem is independent from any software context (video, sound, source code compilation, etc.) heat should be managed properly. We all accept that it will overheat after heavy usage. But the proper HW design would postpone it.

@@vasundharak9536 I have been enjoying the MBA very much. I haven't experienced any overheating issues. Although I don't push it too hard either. I guess I never push a computer too hard, not even my work laptop. The Mac OS is different, but pretty user friendly. I've been a Chromebook user for the past seven years but it has a problem with loading thumbnails of pics that I use a lot. The MBA does not have that problem, nor does my Windows 10 desktop. I am still in the Google world with Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs and Google sheets. I haven't tried Mac Pages yet, I still use Google Docs. I have tried Mac Numbers(spreadsheet), but I doubt I will switch from Excel or Google sheets. The only thing that bugs me is that the "delete" key actually functions as a backspace key. They should label it as "backspace". Hitting the "fn" key with the "delete" key will make it function as a delete key, but I would rather have the "fn" and "delete" key function as a backspace key, and have the "delete" key truly function as a delete key. However the MBA is a very nice machine and the build quality fairly demands the price tag. :)

Your definition is wrong. If your laptops fan is always on and cpu has high temp/thermal throttles, it’s over heating, if your laptop turns itself off due to heat, that is very bad and you are severely shortening the life of your device. This is how some MacBook 12 are dying on its own. Heat causes the cpu die to de-solder from its base.

No need to regret, it's a very good machine. The thermal issues are from people doing outrageous tests on a device that wasn't designed to tackle them in the first place. I tried my best to replicate everything you said and (my tabs are simply stack overflow, I know they aren't that intensive to run) WITH a 1080p video running AND inside chrome you'll see the temperatures are relatively normal ~70. It will boost up when opening applications but drop. I will make a pinned comment of your test so people can get a real idea of what's going on.

How we choose to define "overheating" is important. IMO sitting at or near the thermal limits too often is "Too hot" if not "overheated". As a computer builder I never let my CPU set at or near the thermal maximums as what you are doing is shortening the life the CPU (and potentially every surrounding component). Apple consistently makes decisions on thermals that are head scratchers. Everything else can be overlooked but their attitude toward thermals is cavalier and ultimately just poor engineering.

I believe your sincerity but I'm truly experiencing disruptive fan noise on what I consider minor tasks.
I watched the Maxtech videos after purchasing and using the 2020 MBA i5 because I did a search to see if anyone else was having the fan noise issue. I first noticed the problem on a teleconference meeting on BlueJeans. The only other program that was open was Chrome (no high-res videos on). The fan noise got so loud that others on the call started asking where the "wind noise" was coming from. The fan was even louder than some of the meeting participants! I actually had to switch to my 2017 iPad (not Pro) which performed fine and it didn't seem to get hot. The same issue occurred with TeamLink. Sure I can toggle the mute, but sometimes it's not practical to have my computer muted during meetings. I just don't think the fan noise should happen on these tasks and I don't think we have to be "forced" to not use Chrome because it contributes to disruptive fan noise.

Initially I did not really agree with max tech and decided to buy the i5 16gb model. And honestly it’s a terrible laptop. I’ve had it for 5 days and I can’t stand it anymore. I have safari, Mac photos app, discord, Spotify and word. Just these apps, the laptop is 80 degrees plus. The fan is blaring at 6000-8000 rpm constantly. It chugs along so much sometimes. Also now with how we are using video conferencing apps or screensharing apps for work, the MacBook Air is abysmal. If you share your screen with some other apps open. It shoots up to 100 degrees and the whole computer runs at like 20fps. I was in a discord video call, the computer with just that and some apps like safari and Mac photos, pushes the cpu/integrated graphics so much already. The computer just slows to a crawl. Also these tests need to keep in mind ambient temperature too. Your results might be very different based where you are. Sometimes we get very different results from you tubers everywhere. The thing that’s unsettling is how when you’re just opening tabs and listening to music or opening the email app and you see the temperatures at 80-90 degrees. It just gets too hot for very menial tasks. That’s the issue I have with this laptop. The heat is already bad, combined with the fan blaring at high speeds. It’s just awful.

It can screenshare for the first 5 mins but after that the viewer watching my screen is watching it at like 5 - 10 fps. This is probably due to the clock speeds dropping due to high temps. I think for most people the i3 base model is totally fine for basic tasks. Additionally, I chose to return it for the rumoured mbp 13 coming in May. I think a 28W processor with 2 fans and a heatpipe would add to the longevity of the device and overall run the device alot cooler as the fan can cool it much better for basic tasks and still cool it well for slightly more intensive tasks. I came from a 2015, 15inch and that laptop lasted me 4 and a half years, its an amazing laptop. I think one of the reasons why its able to last that long is just the build quality and heat management, the temperatures for that laptop were always at 35 - 50 degrees idle and never above 70 - 80 degrees. So it is slightly worrying for me seeing the macbook air constantly above 70 and hitting 100 regularly. Anyways, thanks for the reply. I am definitely a macos user, for my laptops and just productivity, I really dislike windows. Great video btw and its good to hear other experiences with this new macbook air. Its quite a tricky device to recommend tbh.

I will be getting the new MBP for the channel cause I use my 2012 MBP but that thing is seriously on its last leg and it's almost unbearable using that so I have to use my desktop that I built. I'm the same that macOS is better for productivity, I just prefer the laptop. Real bummer to hear your experience with the Air, but glad you are returning it and getting a product that fits your needs.

Sorry, I have to disagree. I have the 2019 version Air which has the same cooling system as the new 2020 version. And I can tell you one thing - even without pushing the laptop to the max, it gets heat up easily and the fan spinning like crazy. I dont do video editing in final cut. Just a casual small file video editing using a basic filmora software, watching 1440p videos and the tempt gets to 100 and producing loud noise. Mind you I was not doing these 2 things at the same time! Oh by the way, you can never experience this if you are testing this laptop in a shop or just for a short time. You actually have to use it to experience it. People are saying this Air is not for this, not for that...hey, its a $1000++ machines! And the upper tier is a quad core version. What's the point of buyinga $1000 plus laptop just to do typing and watch netflix? You can buy an entry level Ipad for that.

    • @lijiashen7086
      @lijiashen7086 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi, but I would like to disagree with you. You are right, it does have the same cooling system. However, it has a completely different CPU. The newer version has a 10th generation intel CPU while the 2019 model has the 8th generation (I think). This, of course, means that the 2020 model will run faster. Hence, the laptop will not heat up as much in the first place as the newer CPU should be able to handle the load.

See the comparison between the 2019 vs 2020 version and you can see they both heat up and thermal throttled. It is because both fans are not connected to the heat sink. Your justification of the 2020 are based on it has the 10th gen that wouldn't heat up? Obviously you never used one of these laptops. The Intel's chip has nothing to do with the laptops get hot or not. Its the cooling system the reason of it.

I had to return my i5. Fan pretty lound and temps constantly at 85c or above running Zoom by itself. And yes, I checked the activity monitor. Add multitasking to that and temps got above 95. That maybe fine, but do you want to have temps of that level hitting close to threshold when doing that level of tasks. Why would the older MBA run cooler doing those same tasks? Yes, it is a retina screen, but come on. I do not consider that a pro user thing. The intel chips boost too high and thus use too much energy, which causes the MBA to run hotter based on the cooling design. The chess game that came with the computer had serious issues, which were software related I believe. That game alone could cause the fans to go above 8000 rpm and temps at constant 100 or near 100c on all 4 cores.

I agree that the Air is working well for its intended audience. But when people aren't able to max out their i7 on an Air because of thermal throttling but can on a Pro, you can quite rightly ask why (if it's just an email, browsing and word processing machine) did Apple try to upsell you on a performance boost in the first place? It's not the processor that provides the ceiling so much as the thermal performance, and that's frustrating if you've paid extra.
The fans on my Air were working like crazy and my Air began to slow down when using Sidecar, to the point it was kind of unusable, which was disappointing considering it's marketed as a feature to customers.

What happens after 15 minutes is that I have difficulty scrolling the list of participants, it slows down. Luckily they stay seeing me OK. The fans will be loud after a while, but when I am busy it is not annoying me. My work PC is a HP Pavilion i3 (2019), but that will also heat up extreme and also slows down, these fans are more loud than the Air. I think it is an issue with most notebooks.
