    What kinds of creative uses have you tried with masking in video projects?

    Hey thanx for the tips .. i really thought rotoscoping was going to be harder then what you explained .. ive wanted to learn to do this to better mask certain things in the videos i make .. every episode we compete in, we hold punishments for the loser and it mostly consists of injecting ourselves in shows and movie scenes that dont end well for that person 😂 ... up untill this point ive been using screenshot stills and rectangular masks but that always would leave small awkward little unmasked corners that i couldnt get due to the shape of the rec .. it still satified the message and i made it works decently, but im a perfectionist at times and those little areas always make me uneasy lol .. now that i finally sat down to learn how to rotoscope (thanx to this video) ill be able to make more precise masks which will lead to better quality content .. thank you for your effort and time .. awesome job 👍🏿🔥.. feel free to check out some of our videos to see what i mean 😃

    This tool crashes the program for me. (rotoscoping) Same happens with curves, if I try to use them too much. :/

    How can I put and object behind a mask ?

    • @Photolearningism
      @Photolearningism  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Felipe Sepulveda! Thank you so much for checking out this video! In #KDEnlive, presuming that the Rotoscoping effect is set to "subtract", all that should be needed is to stack the timeline video tracks so that the desired object to be "behind" a mask is in a video track underneath. If needed, more tracks can be added and the videos dragged up to make room. Hope that helps!

      Hi Aveem Ashfaq! Thank you for the request! I will see if there is a way to do this - There may be some possibilities in using motion tracking, but will need to try out some ideas.

      If your subject is not moving, and you take a second video without the stick, it's possible to rotoscope a patch from the 2nd video and position it over the stick. This works best with fairly smooth or consistent surfaces, for example beach sand. It's also possible to remove people from a busy street but all the shots would need to be taken from a camera on a tripod. These are some of the same techniques I use in Photoshop on a still image.

    You also have to get an empty shot to place underneath the main shot, don't you?

      Hi Hj Fjgv! Thank you so much for watching! In the case of the example demonstrated, that's correct! Once a mask is applied, it makes that marked space transparent, needing a background layer to fill that space. Hope that helps!

    Yes, you'll grow a beard while you're doing frame-by-frame rotoscope😂!

    Thanks a ton for sharing this. I believe I started out with a corrupt installation of kdenlive on my Ubuntu Studio, it wouldn't give me the option to draw on the screen when adding the rotoscopy effect. I had to delete the cache file from my home directory and reinstall, after that it worked. Like you I found the lighting to be critical. I actually did the recording at night with just a few lamps I have at home and was still not satisfied with the result. I also found that the number of dots drawn for the selection might change throughout the transformation (duh), so I did not set the first keyframe at the beginning but somewhere in the middle and worked my way backwards and forwards from there. You can check out the result here: th-cam.com/video/JzSFlgTZj_Q/w-d-xo.html
    Thanks again for sharing!
