    I like the sound of the new muffler much better. It's pretty cool to see your take on a fuel injection system for the Corvair. It's coming right along. Nice job on figuring out all those angles and cuts on those pipes. Looks great. Looking forward to your next update! God bless you too. Happy (belated) Birthday to your Dad!

    I put a wideband on my '66 110hp PG Corvair, and was pleasantly surprised at how well the stock carbs were metering. I too am planning on converting to fuel injection (though with 140 heads converted to Weber-style individual intakes and injectors) and electronic ignition. I read that you get about 80% of the entire benefit of EFI/ignition by just doing the ignition side. The distributor ignition curve is a single line, whereas the microsquirt supports a 16X16 ignition map, meaning you have 256 individual points to set your timing. Thanks for your efforts, I'm learning a lot, and your skills are great!
    Oh, and Happy Birthday Dad!

    • @AutoAnatomy
      @AutoAnatomy  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree that ultimately fuel and ignition control is best, and that's what I'm working towards. For me it'll be a stepwise approach, with fuel only at first and then adding the spark control next. I'm ready to get this thing fired up, and just waiting on some parts to arrive. The waiting is the worst part!

    Excellent craftsmanship on the intake. I would think that when you go to the 140 heads, it would be easier to start with the center mount 4 barrel manifold. Mount your adapter and throttle body to that. Then you could just drill the 140 manifold for the individual injectors. Well that might be the easiest, but I have no idea how even the air flow is.
    Really am enjoying your build series. 😮

    I am looking forward to the results of this EFI build. This is not meant as criticism but I have always wondered (I have had a similar concept as yours in my head) if angling the injector with a bias aimed towards the two longer runs on the head/intake would help to balance fuel distribution. That or placing the injector higher in the intake tube an inch or so for fuel and air to have more time to blend together. These might be mote points of no consequence and frankly without the advanced ability to measure each exhaust output individually I don't know that anyone could tell other than the ancient art of reading plugs. But it is something that has always rattled loosely in my brain so I thought I would mention it. Happy Birthday Dad! Copied to the CCF also.

  • @Friedbrain11

    I would use a GM throttle body of a TBI and mod it a little. 1988 S10/15 2.5L throttle body would be about perfect. Why mount the throttle body backwards? It would have been better to have the throttle body towards the front I would think. I have had several intakes on Corvair engines besides the stock setup. Always wanted a Browns fuel injection system myself. Spark would be the v6 distributorless system from GM. It is proen and works great.

  • @markcollins457
    @markcollins457 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Fuel injection would have been the next thing installed on the Corvair if it was allowed to evolve past its demise in 1969.
    I realize after 1965 the Corvair really didn't evolve much but it was a milestone car that never was allowed to shadow the Corvette.
    The only problem I see with what you have done with you Corvair to date is the interest and prices on these old air bags is going up$.😅

    • @AutoAnatomy
      @AutoAnatomy  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I really wish GM had continued with the development of these cars, and I agree that fuel injection was the next logical step. Would have mad them much more tolerable on a daily basis.

    Hello, Thank you for the video, great job working on the Corviar and the EFI conversion. One question though. You are making a one-off intake for the Corvair, could you of used the Corvair turbo intake? I am asking as the Turbo intake is readily available and has an opening similar to the fox body throttle body.

    • @AutoAnatomy
      @AutoAnatomy  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I could have used the turbo intake, but didn't like how the air intake came in at a hard 90 degree angle to the crossover tubes. I've seen them used to make something similar to mine but wanted to create a freer-flowing version.

    When the pandemic mandatory "down time" started I wound up finding my very first car for sale on fb market, being sold by the son of the guy I sold it to when I left for the military. As is typical of many a teenager who think that just because youtube videos on any and everything exist, he thought that tearing into the engine for a cam swap would be easy peasy. Well he found out that easy was not on the menu, got frustrated and gave up, but not before buying a bunch of maybe not top shelf parts but more than good for me including but not limited to a set of aluminum heads that looked to be chinese copies of edelbrocks E-techs, Headman mid lengths with y pipe. So I bought it and towed it back to the crack shack aka my garage and yanked the engine out and after some detective work I found that he'd misplaced the TPI plenum rendering the efi kinda ungood. But he left the SLP runners id put on the car back in 06 which I then found out were worth like a grand now and sold them immediately. I wanted to stay with efi but I wanted to see if I could build a system, computer to injectors that would be as functional as the stand alone units from edelbrock, holley etc... megasquirt has gotten way too expensive even for their entry level stuff so after looking I found Speeduino. This is an open source efi platform that you can buy boards for and solder together or you can buy pre-assembled boards that will run sequential fuel and spark along with wide band o2 sensors and the whole shebang. So I found a guy who sells pre built boards (Detonationems.com) and the board I got does everything that the microsquirt does but comes with the ability to run a stepper motor for idle air, tuning g is done through tuner studios which is free with the option to upgrade to the $20 a year version and it's pretty idiot proof. I got hold of the reluctor 60-2 wheel from a 2015 Silverado 4.3 and im running wasted spark and as for fuel I'm running a TBI throttle body (the holley version at 670cfm) with AFI's injector pod wich allows use of ls3 style injectors and I was shocked at how much power this kludged together combo made on a dingle ball rebuilt 350
    289Hp
    317tq
    As measured on a mustang chassis dyno
    Ok bored rant over

  • @Kpar512
    @Kpar512 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hi Sean, another good one! I take note that, when I am trying to evaluate an exhaust system, I consider the tone of the exhaust, as well as the total noise level. Your new combination sounds pretty NICE! Another thing, when you are traveling at 60MPH, I am completely unsurprised that the total dB rating is not much different between the two mufflers- there is a lot of extraneous noise other than the output from the exhaust- wind noise, road noise, tire noise, etc. which more than covers exhaust. And your fabrication skills are truly impressive. KUDOS!
    Oh, one more question- does this fuel injection system you are using have a "knock sensor"? There are a few aftermarket ignition systems that fit Corvair and that can control ignition timing, but modern FI systems have such integrated.

    • @AutoAnatomy
      @AutoAnatomy  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Kirk,
      Thanks for the kind words on the fabrication. I've got a lot to learn but am having fun! Not planning on running a knock sensor as I think the Corvair engine might be too noisy.
