      +Real Men Real Style Thank you for saying that it's not shallow to make assumptions based on the way people look. I wouldn't treat anyone badly because of the way they were dressed, but certainly dress can shift levels of respect. Not shallow at all.

      +Roberto LaCraveon I am an electrician and this is true. I was working in a mansion for a millionaire and he overpaid me by 40 bucks. If it were the average Joe, I'd tell them they paid way too much and offer their money back. This guy however was covered in money. The amount of detail in his house and the number of expensive trinkets that spanned every room was astonishing. Not to mention how well-dressed he was.

    I have never been taught how to dress sharp, I just started to care about the way I dressed and then the more you get in to it you realise how happy you are when you can walk up straight and be 100% confident and know that you are being respected because you care about yourself!

      Andreas Meier I think the way you dress is a expression of yourself, I dont dress nicely for others, I do it for myself. Just because I dress nicely does not mean Im respected less by my friends, my true friends respect me for who I am.
      When you meet new people first impression is strong (whether we like it or not). If I dont shower for weeks in a row people will judge me on my smell, if I wear nice clothes and look like I take care of myself peolpe will notice and have a different approach towards me. There is a reason you dont wear socks and sandals to a job interview.
      That being said I dont wear nice clothes to impress anyone or to be someone Im not. I dress nicely for myself and because it is who I am.

    • @RamzaBeoulves
      @RamzaBeoulves 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Andreas Meier You wear what you are. Clothing are a representation of your personality and are the first thing people are going to notice about you. They are talking for you before you even get a chance to talk.
      That's not being superficial, that's analysis, what humans excel at.

    Around three months ago was my second cousins wedding. I was home alone dressing for the occasion. I'm only 19 so I don't own a car of my own, so I took the public bus. As soon as the bus driver saw me in my suit, he greeted me warmly and respectingly. Even more than usual. When I left the bus another young man wearing a suit also left the bus. We both looked at each other and nodded with glee

    Its a real shame that wanting to look decent everyday is considered "out there" or overkill, im 24 and I have started to make the change, ive had a lot happen to me personally over the last 4 years, and i feel now i want to dress like a man rather than a boy. Everyone considers me as a gentleman so why not dress like one. So i am ditching the hoodies, tacky T shirts, horrible jeans and in come chinos, shirts, oxfords, knitwear, pea coats

      Pea coats are awesome. Especially the full length ones, in northern climes at at least. Warmer and classier than those ribbed, overstuffed things.

      Adam Purcell It is a shame, I'm only 17 and I've been dressing well for a year and a half and the amount of problems it causes with the "hard boys" is unbelievable, I suppose it's also because, like yourself, I'm considered a gentleman, and although most girls here in Spain are hard partiers and not really my ideal for a relationship it does get me a lot of attention. There's a lot of truth in your words, keep it up!

    I'd just add this: get in shape. All the best clothing in the world won't suffice if you're not feeling *confident* about yourself - the best way to do that is to get in shape. And I certainly don't mean bodybuilder physique: sharp clothes look best when you're slim (BMI between 21-23 and body fat percentage between 10-15%).

    I definitely get more"Sir" and common courtesy when I dress well. I worked at an arena in LA for 8 years where you needed an all access pass. I would not wear the pass, but I would dress sharp, walk tall as a well trained Marine should, and I would not get stopped. My boss did not dress as sharp, and would wear the pass. We where walking together through a tunnel with security. Security stopped him and not me. My boss asked why. Security said "he looks like he works here." Semper Fi!

    People associate bad habits with how you dress too.
    I was coming home from work in a business casual outfit with a nice pea coat. I was standing beside a guy who seemed like he was dressed down (baggy sweat pants and a very loose hoodie). Another guy was looking for a cigarette, he asked the man next to me and he said no because he didn't smoke, he quickly glanced at me and walked to another person.

    I'm 28 and my boss is forty. one day we were working and I was dressed sharp as usual while my boss wears casual clothes with flip flops. A customer came in, looked at both of us and went up to me and asked, "excuse me, you're the manager here, right?" I told the customer, "sorry, she's the manager." I can tell it bothered her, but I felt so awesome. Appearance means a lot.

    Antonio, in the past 2 years I've been trying to look better, size up my wardrobe and these are pretty much SPOT ON. I've gotten away with so many things by dressing sharp. A few things such as:
    1.Riding the public tram system the card checker skipped me, nodded, and said 'Don't worry, it's all right.' while having checked everyone in front of me.
    2.I walked in an electronics shop with my clothes I used to wear 3 years ago and I wanted to ask one of the personnel a question and he answered: 'iuno. don't ask me.'
    Walked in same day again with my go-to outfit and I had 2 people walk to me asking me if I needed help.
    3. When dressed well, I've always had employees at a supermarket race to open a checkout register even when there's another isle open and I'm the only one remaining. (yes granted they are most likely trained to do this, but when dressed entirely down, I end up waiting at the last isle that's still open)
    4. My girlfriend, the first thing she tells everybody about when we first met was 'I don't know, he was just dressed REALLY nice.'
    To anyone who is looking to dress well and up their wardrobe, remember that yes, it DOES take time to feel right and before you know it you have ditched your old wardrobe that not only makes you looked at in a better light, but also builds your character and therefore build connections you wouldn't have thought you could otherwise.
    Many thanks Antonio. I definitely learned a lot from you. :)

      As an old punker who then got tired of 30 years of that and West Coast casual, it's nice to be slipping into suits and jackets just because I like to, not because I have to. You're right. But even confident, polite, and respectful punks connect with people once you start speaking to 'em. Happens all the time. Face it: Cool is confidence, and a gentleman is polite regardless of how you're dressed. Banker or biker, it doesn't matter.

    One of my earliest books on style was 'The Power Look' by Egon von Furstenburg. I still have it. By following the suggestions contained therein, I was given preferential treatment on a flight where everyone was dressed 'casually'. Yet I was not overdressed. Shortly after, at a terminal in Florida,my friend who dressed on the cheap, although he had the means not to, was detained by Customs for no other reason than his clothing. I wasn't detained and took immense delight feigning annoyance at the delay. I have never forgotten those moments. Shallow thinking does not accept the reality in front of it.Most of our judgments are subconscious.

    I'm 16 years old and I love dressing sharply. I wonder if I am too young to dress sharply. At school, I have to wear white shirt and navy pants (every student in Vietnam). Other student would like wearing oversized sweaters/shirts, jeans, running shoes, but I prefer dressing sharply such as nice shirt tucking into a nice pants and leather shoes. When I dress like that, people judge me as old, not young. Sometimes, I feel weird to be stand out as I dress sharply like that. Do I need to care other people thoughts, judgements? Am I too young to dress like that daily? Should I wear a sport jacket/suit every day?

    Im 15 years old, I used to not care about how I dress. Never once has someone questioned my age. I was on public transport the other day in a vneck over a knit Oxford with some black jeans and grayish black vans. The bus driver thought I was over 18 and called me back to verify my age. I have noticed a change not only in the way people perceive me but in the way people treat me. I agree one hundred percent with everything he has said in this video.

I think if you're dressed poorly but assertive people think you're just being brash because it looks like you can't even get yourself together, so why should they listen to you?

    Your point about the restaurant experience is ABSOLUTELY correct in my experience! In fact, whenever I would go out with my family (mom/dad, siblings, etc) I am almost always assumed to be the one picking up the tab. I always get my food first, the waitress always refills my water first, and I almost never have a problem with my meal (only had two "bad" experiences with a meal in my entire life). I wear suits or business casual wear, always smiling, and my main goal when I talk to people is to make them feel better than they did before they met me.

    I once had spare tickets to a couple of classical concerts, as a friend I was to take was too ill to go, so I suggested that one of my teenage workshop assistants might like to come, instead. He was interested, and enjoyed the first performance, and so came to the second one a month or so later. On the second occasion, he wore a suit, shirt and tie. Afterwards, he remarked, "People treat you differently, don't they, when you wear a suit."
    Absolutely true! No-one is immune from being influenced by appearances, for better or for worse.

      Just want to add that when i stated "who cares" i wasn't trying to not validate your opinion. it's still good to share common knowledge and even educate, as long as it doesn't come off as pompous or condescending...just saying we could learn in many areas of all subjects and from anyone no matter what degree or level of education, there is a common understanding...put in simpler terms- we all can learn from each other and or we all have can share what me know, even if it's not proper, we can take it or leave it. But what you stated was educational, so it's cool 😏😉☺️

    I don't tend to dress to the nine's but one morning I was in a rush to get to an interview looking quite nice in a charcoal suit. I went into McDonald's for a quick SEC biscuit, I know McDonald's woah, but I had quite a few heads turn and even the nice young lady working the front had a slip of the tongue and said, "woah." And began blushing when she realized it wasn't just in her head. Now the key detail is, normally at this specific stop you could be left waiting a handful of time just to even get an order in and then a substantial wait to get your order. Not only was I seen immediately, my food came before the other folks waiting. There could of been a large number of factors in play but that, accompanied with me absolutely nailing the interview, honestly gave me the courage to look into dressing nice more often. Hence how I found your channel. So sometimes you just need to get out there and build up your confidence.

    Good advice as usual Antonio.
    A friend of mine worked out of his garage as a mechanic. He did pretty well. Was able to take care of his family in relative comfort. A mechanic can get pretty dirty by the end of the day. I visited him one day., As he was finishing up. We decided to run to the grocery store to get some steaks and beer and have a Barbecue.
    He showered and put on some decent clothes first. Nothing too fancy. Nicer pair of jeans and a semi dress shirt. I asked him about it. He listed a lot of good reasons. The one I remember most is that the world is full of potential customers. That if you don't take pride in your appearance, people are going to wonder if you take pride in your work.

Most of my wardrobe was tee shirts, the occasional hoodie, and jeans that I wore everywhere except school. When I saw your videos on how to act and dress myself above the rest, I went out and bought some nice leather boots that work great with just about anything business casual, some polos, a new pear of clean, nice fitting jeans that compliment my style, and some new jackets. When I put them all together, man I look so much better than before. I get compliments from adults about it. Antonio, great Tips. the one thing that comes to mind whether or is right or wrong "Perception is Reality"! my son is 17 years old and he wears Hagar Cool 18 dress pants, Black rounded dress shoes and a polo with embroidered school logo every day. He changes up the color of pants. His former Principal stopped my wife and me last week and said she saw him a couple days prior. He had walked directly towards her when they made eye contact. She said he shook my hand and asked how my school year was going and inquired about the rest of the staff. She told us most kids look down when they see her and avoid contact (usually Texting). She said the kids think he is student teacher when he is only a sophomore. She told us to be proud of how we raised such a great young man. She then repeated "he is not a boy anymore he is a young man"! I have instilled this into him for years. He is not an "Straight A student" but was unanimously voted by the staff as Student Ambassador for the Career Center he attends for Multimedia Marketing. #perceptionisreality

    One shouldn't judge a book until it's been read. However, the cover of the book conveys a lot of information. That cover could convey the message "Hey, you really should read this book. You'll like it." or "**** off, I don't want to be read." You are the book, your look is your cover. Neither message is wrong per say, but it is very important to understand what your cover is saying to others. Send the message you want to send.

    I won a contest a few years back and I got to have lunch with Dan Patrick. They didn't give us a dress code so I wore what a traditional southern gentlemen from South Carolina would wear to a casual event. That is a navy blazer, white button down, and khaki slacks. Everyone else was wearing t shirts, jeans, and sweat shirt. While dan was greeting everyone he told everyone "hi nice to meet you" when he got to me he said "you're overdressed" I said thanks! I love being from the South! Antonio I know you would have done the same!

      Never buy anything at full peice, always look for sales or clearence. Additionally, thrift stores can have great deals. Although it's not ideal wearing someone elses old clothing, I've found Burberry sport coats for

    • @the80386
      @the80386 8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      this theory don't hold up in practice. we live in a society, not an isolated island. everything we do and the gratification we have come from external sources whether we realize it or not. you will gain more self respect when you see other people consistently address you respectfully, but if they consistently push you over and talk over you? at least some self confidence and respect will be lost and doubts will start to seep in.

      if people dont know me and i dont have to work with them, i dont give a damn what they think of me. Everyone deserves a basic leverl of respect, from the hard working janitor to the embezeling banker. What really matters is what people think once they get to know you a few minutes. Maners and qualifications matter more than "sharp". Thats for con men and sales or other superficial people.
      But, yes, i often judge people a bit on their appearance, an overly sharp suit gets my alarm bells ringing. "Probably doesnt have much real qualifications and self confidence, so has to be flashy". Just dress well and neat, be kind and professional, people notice that.
      And often the most qualified people i met wore clothing that other would not get away with "Everyday is casual friday"
      If you need a really good prgrammer or engineer (jobs that are based on hard facts), would you choose the guy in the tuxedo or the one in jeans and nirvana shirt ?

    Hello Mr. Anthonio, i'll like to share one wonderful experience i had yesterday in a bank here in Nigeria capital (Abuja). I entered a bank (FCMB) to open a dollar account, i was wearing a corporate dry shirt with a tie, a cool corporate shoe and a nice trouser (pant), i was given a very special attention and the banker even offered to come to wherever i am to get the form and open the account for me. It doesn't happen like that here in this part of the world, but because i dressed like a successful man (even though i am not yet there), i was given a millionaire treatment. Thank Anthonio for all the videos you have shared with us to uplift our standard as real men with real style.

    I love the channel I just discovered it. I agree with all the things you said. I've noticed such a big difference in how I'm perceived and treated by all walks of people in society.
    People seem to trust me more, when I walk into a store before I would get followed like I was going to be stealing now they pull out the red carpet for me, show me everything behind the show case and tell me to try things on and treat me like I'm rich.
    People with low self esteem cannot even look me in the eye and bow their head when I walk past. Strangers who need help look around and choose to ask me. Many people who don't know my past just assume I'm successful. Mentally I'm preparing for my success.
    People in my school mistake me for a professor and professors mistake me for an important outsider visiting the college.
    Police officers and security guards great me with respect and don't look my way twice.
    I also love the wearing accessories and the double use they can have. My life has changed.

      I wear a gold nugget pinky ring with a diamond in the center as an accessory I'm curious if you think that it is too tacky? I'm curious about how men should wear jewelry if any at all. I stopped wearing earrings and gold chains, but I've been thinking about wearing a small stud again to match my tie clip and the pinky ring.
      One last thing. I've been thinking of using a walking stick. Would that be too much?
      Thanks for any feed back!

    • @SugaryCoyote
      @SugaryCoyote 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Kwasi Williams I think the pinky ring on its own absent of the other jewelry can be striking and not tacky. In my opinion the walking stick is a bit much though.

    • @RealMenRealStyle
      @RealMenRealStyle  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Kwasi Williams I'm glad that everything is working out great for you. As for jewelry, I personally just wear a wedding band as I like to keep it simple but I know a lot of people who can pull them off. This should help www.realmenrealstyle.com/ring-symbolism-infographic/ . As for the walking stick..let me think about it! :))

    • @kwasiwilliams5014
      @kwasiwilliams5014 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah everyone I ask about the walking stick says it's a bit much. I found only one gentleman who said I should if I like them, but he told me I must exude extreme levels of confidence in order to get away with it.
      So I practice with 2 very nice fancy cane umbrellas; if there's the slightest chance of rain I pull one out. Pretending they are walking sticks I did find it slightly awkward and inconvenient to be carrying around a stick everywhere. The funny thing is my confidence did build and now there's an extra pep in my step when I walk with the cane umbrella and I noticed when I'm stationary I have a cool lean into the umbrella.
      The last time it rained 3 very attractive girls and one mature lady from my school all complemented me on the umbrella and how it matched my outfit so perfectly. I found it weird because it's my favorite rain outfit and I've worn it many times to school already, then I realized the only difference is my confidence level.

    When I'm dressed well & somebody says the classic "you're shallow if you judge others how they look," I feel like they're just projecting & missing the point entirely. I am obese & stocky; when I'm in a suit, I'm doing it because it makes ME feel good, it actually fits me (due to proper tailoring), and is usually more comfortable than some cheap tshirt anyway. And more directly to their comment, I'm NOT judging anyone how they look, nor do I care how people see me. It's literally for comfort & makes me look slightly less fat. That's it. lol

    Incredible right. I worked in a building full of lawyers and they saluted me every morning while i was wearing my suit. But one day i decided to go in bike and change my clothes at the office. I left my bike in my parking place, entered in the elevator, still with the helmet in my head, and the same lawyers that i saluted every day, in that moment not even saluted me but they shutted their chat and avoid eyes contact with me (probably thinking that i was a poor messenger or something). It was very sad to find out that in fact they never saluted me but my suit.
    I also had a dog who barked me when I went to the backyard without changing my suit for the t-shirt and jeans. "Yeti cant recognize you. He is not used to see decent people", I heard from the kitchen. :)
