  • Short line railroad switching on the Ohio short line railroad Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET. I filmed them switching customers in Batavia, Ohio on the Norfolk Southern Peavine Line. Check out the 3 classic older locomotives in this video! Seen crossing a huge trestle and an overhead view of the train going under me. This is one of the longest trains that you will see on this line today. They were pulling cars out of storage and picking up quite a few cars from several customers and taking them to the NS interchange at Clare Yard. 2 of the locomotives are General Electric B36-7s and the other one is an EMD MP15DC. It is rare to see 3 locomotives on one CCET train so this is an awesome video! First we see them passing through Mount Orab, Ohio. Then we see train backing into the Mount Carmel Group and Huhtamaki compound for switching. Before getting to Huhtamaki the train had switched Afton Yard and left 2 of the locomotives there along with most of the train. After we see them switching, we see the train reversing back to Afton Yard to put the train back together and head to the NS interchange. I filmed them going under Old SR 32 in Batavia and going over the huge trestle in downtown Batavia that goes over SR132 and the East Fork Of The Little Miami River. I tried to explain what is going on in this video so let me know if it is confusing. Don't miss the slide show at the ending. The artwork at the ending was done by my grand daughter Aubrey and the carton picture was done by my grand daughter Lillia. 3 of my 4 dogs are seen at the beginning. I let them run free on my farm since there are no close neighbors. Filmed October 30, 2020 ( AD ). Thanks for watching!
    Please thumbs up and watch another JawTooth video to help my channel. Every view helps and I enjoy doing this fulltime as a job. The views help pay the costs of gas, motels, airfare and rental cars.
    Check out my steam train playlist for some really cool videos including the Big Boy! I also have other railroad videos of all types including short lines, street runners and cabooses in action. Please watch another video to help support my channel:

    The switching sequences would be much better if a drone was employed to catch it when the train disappears around the curve. At the 18 and 21 mark, dangerous moves. The conductor should've stopped the train before the crossing, dismounted, and then stood in the middle of the crossing to insure no oncoming vehicles. Shoving unprotected at the 21 mark is also an extremely dangerous move. At the very least, the conductor should've been riding the lead boxcar. I guess railroading has changed.

    What was that string of LPG tankers doing in Huhtamaki/Mt Carmel? Do they store cars there, too? (Or did I misread the hazmat code? They look like LPG tanks and the code seemed to be 1075, which is LPG.)
    Edit: answering my own question, I guess they must have been in storage. Only the first car had the hazmat placard, and cars are supposed to be purged of residue when in storage, at which point they should have the placards removed.

    • @JawTooth
      @JawTooth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, they were just there in temporary storage since most of the sidings were full. Right now they have a bunch of them out near the end of the active track past Plum Run

    • @beeble2003
      @beeble2003 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The railroads do very little about it because they can't guard their cars 24/7. They'll issue trespassing tickets to anyone they catch but, realistically, what more can they do than that?

    I wish they would fix that air compressor over-pressure blow-off valve that is making that cht-cht-cht-cht noise. Seems like it could use changing. I hear it all the time on your videos. I think it's the same locomotive 5895. I'll keep an eye on it in other videos to see if it's the same engine.

    • @beeble2003
      @beeble2003 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not an over-pressure blow-off. It's the spitter valve that removes water from the air lines. Compressing the air to 90+psi causes the water vapour in it to condense, especially on humid days. The water pools in the low-points of the brake system, and the spitter valves periodically blow it out.

      Isn't that normal? The locomotive could be running in either direction and you need sand on the rails before the wheels roll over it, so you need sand at the front and rear of each truck.

    What does Mt. Carmel group import or export?
    Do they take the flatcars or the tank cars featured in the video?
    Good video

    • @beeble2003
      @beeble2003 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mount Carmel are a soil stabilization company. They prepare the ground before construction works so that, e.g., roads are built on firm ground and embankments are stable. I think their main traffic is hoppers full of lime, which they mix with the soil to help bind it. One of the tank cars was placarded as being for LPG, so I think they were just in storage on the Huhtamaki/Mt Carmel site. Not sure what the flat cars were for, but I don't think they're related to Mr Carmel.
