I'm confused... I thought and heard that Ducati largely fixed the heat issue from the 959/1299 Panigale bikes with the V4- I heard they redesigned the fairings and it fixed the excessive heat issues is that not true??
As an owner everything that Adam said here I agree with.....my experience is very similar to his...although at a much lower rider skill level! I laughed when I saw him struggling to find the kickstand lever, this is VERY common on the V4 and one of my favorite mods is to install an extended kickstand "bar", makes it much easier to find. Also, he mentioned the HEAT this thing puts out. I just would not recommend this machine as a commuter or "one and only" motorcycle. It is a second motorcycle, particularly if you're going to track or just keep it as a weekender. Even at that if you've been riding a while and need to stop at a light or stop sign, your gonna cook. Neutral is very easy to find if you pop it in just as you're rolling up to a stop. A lot less easy to find when you are already stopped, my opinion. Great job Adam, good insights.
Had a '19 R1M, and the Ohlins shocks were amazing! Made this track beast livable with on the road, other than it got hot if you didn't ride her hard. Thes V4 Panigale look beautiful though. NOt sure that I like that he did a "street commuting" revie on track mode.... again, from my experience with the Ohlins supension on my Yammy, having that on Dynamic made potholes and bumps smooth. Also, From what I've been of Ducati's, Street and Sport mode have plenty of power, and they smooth out the throtle response... Again, wish he woudl have tried the rider modes and talk about the difference, Not all of us are Macho gusy who need to have 100% of a superbike on the road...
Dorian W. Right. When I first got my 959 the stock settings were garbage for my weight and riding. Did some tuning over the first month and the bike transformed. It’s now supple and and much more controllable
(I'm a no motocyclist noob) When you said ''throttle respons adjustment'' feature, I was thinking... why not have a digital equalizer panel so users can adjust anything to their wishes (at least as an optionality)? Maybe just rambling but I can imagine some like to tweak it on several levels and these ''modern'' fabric settings prohibit that free tweaking of the motorcycles.
Akuin CBR-1000-SP2 was my choice over this bike, i live in Miami and I didn’t make it 2- blocks and my legs/thighs were on fire, absolutely stupid amount of heat from this bike. Honda is a 100x better street bike !!!
I only make the suggestion because I bought my ‘17 s1000r as a very new rider, and its tractability and electronic aids let me grow in to it. The new RR is also tractable and better electronic aids. The v4S is a great bike and I am considering trading the s1000r on one, but the heat issue is significant (the s1000r gets hot but is tolerable).
First gen panis are "beautiful". Second gen (v4's) are "magnificent". BOTH are deserving of ultimate superlatives. I'm very glad the new generation retains the dna but takes the breed in a new direction. I still love the twins but really do appreciate the bullish v4's. And really, Ducati needed to evolve and this is a step in the right direction. Ducati has always had the stigma of unreliability and failure - real Ducatistis will deny this to their dying breath which is a large part of why such a premium brand has always been allowed to dish out substandard (although beautiful) products - and the v4 goes a way towards addressing this. Still a number of issues but, so far, good progress.
@@c138599 As an owner I can tell you that for the '18 model year there are something like 5-8 recalls that have been issued. It will be interesting to see if this number of recalls dwindles as the model line matures.
@@GareyCooperdude Hi Garey, I'm aware the recalls are fixed pre-delivery on the MY19 bikes. But there are other known issues that can arise - examples I know of: the extreme heat can cause the quick-shifter and the side-stand relay to fail, and I'm hearing the fuel tank still has another possible breather issue - and owners are still left to battle with these if and when they occur. I'm looking to order one late this year hoping that for the third year of production Ducati finally addresses all of the problems.
@@c138599 I've not heard of those particular issues, my own machine is pretty heavily modified in any case. However I am sure there are still some quirks (as people like to call them anyway) on these to be addressed.....and you would think that the 3rd year would be a good time to get into the Ducati V4 family. By the way there is a "naked" V4 coming that might be a good compromise for street/commute.
If the heat generated by the V4 Pani is worse than my 1299, it must be truly awful. I burned my leg through my jeans on the subframe on one of my first rides. As he mentioned though on cool mornings, the heat is actually quite nice down under 50F on the Interstate.
To my knowledge for my model year '18 there have been something like 8 recalls. Some are relatively serious but many are small tweaks. That IS a lot, granted. I don't want to make excuses for them but it was the first model year and I guess we can allow some new release issues. But, can't argue that 5-8 recalls is quite a lot.
Enjoy your in-depth knowledge on the bike your reviewing but also how the competition may or may not compete with it. I would love a SD 1290r review. Thx
It must be the desmodromic valves that create all the heat. Other manufacturers have v-engines and L-engines but ducatis are always so hot. I have watched dozens of ducati reviews and thats a constant theme. It has to be the valvetrain. But ducati will not abandon desmodromic valves no matter what. Personally i rather have a monster or streetfighter than this bike. In fact i plan on buying a monster this year. But if i was wealthy and did track days often i would buy this bike.
I got to about the 10:40 mark and realized you were complaining about the ride and certain features ... but are riding race mode. It does have a street mode...correct? and you said commute... you doing wheelies to work? I'm very confused at this point
@Motorcyclist I’m a little confused as to how the transmission rated... B-/C+ I didn’t hear anything in this review that would lead me to think the transmission would rate so poorly?!? Please share.?!?
Bike looks awesome and great power, no doubt but not great for hot weather areas. A friend of mine has one and we always laugh it's like riding an oven in the traffic... we call it the "COOKATI" hahahah.
@@ukcitizen1158 There are multiple settings on the electronic side and you can adjust the manual to be softer as well. On broken back roads here in San Diego the plush works quite well.....
I think you have to watch Michael Rutter on a plod round the TT to see what the bike is capable of. Not seen anyone push a bike to its limits like the TT Boys.
Pulling wheelies on a 200+bhp bike by dumping the clutch... You've got the guts, but you got scared as hell, didn't you? LOL Beautiful bike and excellent video! Thanks a lot!
I cannot comment on the earlier models as I did not ever go through those? But if they were worse, oh my! I find this model throws an insane amount of heat at the riders thighs in San Diego summer weather at stops.
Tim Bojones I test rode a 959 for 10 minutes and returned it, couldn't bare the heat but now I own a V4S, you are right, compared to the previous V2 this heat problem is very minimal.
Thanks for the review. I do like this new Duc v4 and considering a purchase very soon. One aspect of quality that confounds me: all of the v4's that I have seen have misaligned subframe on the left hand side. That is, the black subframe seems to be fractionally too wide where it meets the silver main frame. Why? The heat problem appears to cook the quickshifter and sidestand relays - 2 years and still not addressed by Ducati. And seems to be a consensus among track riders that front springs are too soft and the rear too hard. You didn't seem to find this for road use? Laughed when you hit the rough road mid commentary - "Jesus!". 😊
I had this out on a Demo last week and man that Suspension makes your bones judder in either mode. That was the deal breaker for me..... If I was looking to buy it for Track use, I would've gone for it, but my commute is 26 miles each way and I'd rather get there and back without having to worry about arthritis later on in life. Sexy machine though!
The areas you mentioned about the improved fit and finish was the brakes(made by brembo) and suspension(Ohlins) and rusty engine(Ducati). Lol. This is like supercars when they had their “quirks” couple of decades ago. Ducati is all looks kinda choice anyways.
A couple of suggestions on the Commute Reviews: We don't need to hear all the specifications, we can read that from written reviews or the manufacturers website. What I want to hear is more of how it feels to ride, how it compares to other bikes, how well the controls work, if you could ride it daily etc, things you can't really tell from a short demo ride. (and some bikes you cannot get a demo ride on). Also, 29 minutes is a long time to commit to a video, a little editing would make it more watchable and I would watch more of your videos.
It's a wierd thing - and I haven't seen it discussed anywhere - but Ducati made a lot of fuss about how their V4 sounds like a twin due to the firing order or phasing they have adopted. And yet compared to the Aprilia which literally "sings" the Ducati sound is flat. It's not good really. I'm more interested to know if Ducati has achieved performance gains through this initiative but I haven't heard anybody talk about what the unusual phasing contributes to the power and torque curves, or tractability perhaps. Surely it isn't just about preserving the "twin" sound to appease the twin-crazed Ducati purists (with respect)?

It is a second motorcycle, particularly if you're going to track or just keep it as a weekender. Even at that if you've been riding a while and need to stop at a light or stop sign, your gonna cook.
Neutral is very easy to find if you pop it in just as you're rolling up to a stop. A lot less easy to find when you are already stopped, my opinion.
Great job Adam, good insights.
Loved the review! Such a rad bike. Keep up the awesome work! 🤘
When you have it in race mode the rear abs is turned off and she backs it in just fine 🙂
The acceleration of that bike is insane
This or RSV 1100 ? just wich is most fun for adrealin kicks
Best review yet, Adam. Well articulated, good info delivery and organization; all while focused on riding safely to work. Great job!
Should you put a bag of ice 🧊 on the sit when you get off the bike and get back on?
How does this V4 from Ducati compare to the RSV4RR? Would love to see you do a commute on the base RSV4 some day!
Fascinating ! This is a bike
Adjust the suspension to street settings, the bike actually rides amazing.
Dorian W. Right. When I first got my 959 the stock settings were garbage for my weight and riding. Did some tuning over the first month and the bike transformed. It’s now supple and and much more controllable
(I'm a no motocyclist noob)
When you said ''throttle respons adjustment'' feature, I was thinking... why not have a digital equalizer panel so users can adjust anything to their wishes (at least as an optionality)? Maybe just rambling but I can imagine some like to tweak it on several levels and these ''modern'' fabric settings prohibit that free tweaking of the motorcycles.
Adam, for my first liter bike which would you suggest 19 CBR1000RR SP or this Ducati? I really love the way you review moto's :)
This ducati, if u have the money u will be so much happier on the ducati, Ducati is a family, u will love it
S1000r
@@brianglendenning1632 one day :)
That's uh, not corrosion.
🤣😂😅😃
The first generation Panigales are still better looking.
What kind of gloves are those please? I like them.
Should I add a remote starter and ground effect lights to Ducati v4s? Is that good or bad for the bike?
Who bike is best in riding quality bmw s1000rr and v4s.
This video sold me on the new S1000RR, now let´s wait for the next generation of Japanese bikes next year, oh wait, I also need the money.
Any discussion on the dozens of recalls over the last year?
To my knowledge for my model year '18 there have been something like 8 recalls. Some are relatively serious but many are small tweaks. That IS a lot, granted. I don't want to make excuses for them but it was the first model year and I guess we can allow some new release issues. But, can't argue that 5-8 recalls is quite a lot.
Enjoy your in-depth knowledge on the bike your reviewing but also how the competition may or may not compete with it. I would love a SD 1290r review. Thx
Most interesting was the sound this thing was making at idle as the motor warmed up. Almost gutteral.
Ducati Diavel 1260s, please
At the speed you are going, why do you disable traction control? I see this in all your videos, curious if thats just a personal pet peeve :-)
I got to about the 10:40 mark and realized you were complaining about the ride and certain features ... but are riding race mode. It does have a street mode...correct? and you said commute... you doing wheelies to work? I'm very confused at this point
Definitely my dream bike
Nice video and sick bike.
Good luck and drive safe.
@Motorcyclist
I’m a little confused as to how the transmission rated... B-/C+
I didn’t hear anything in this review that would lead me to think the transmission would rate so poorly?!? Please share.?!?
Bike looks awesome and great power, no doubt but not great for hot weather areas. A friend of mine has one and we always laugh it's like riding an oven in the traffic... we call it the "COOKATI" hahahah.
That's funny! "Cookati" I'm going to use that!
Amazing motorcycle, great review Adam!
Why not use the soft plush suspension setting for the slow bumpy street ride?!
There is no such setting on the Bike.
@@ukcitizen1158 - I have a V4S Corse and it for sure has a very soft setting
@@ukcitizen1158 There are multiple settings on the electronic side and you can adjust the manual to be softer as well. On broken back roads here in San Diego the plush works quite well.....
I think that sideway at 15:32 should have been addressed, was it something on the road, bike or rider error!!
Good to know about this dream scream machine thanks. Is it normal to not feel rear tire slide?
I'm doing it I'm getting one
Does this thing really put out unbearable heat? I’ve ridden Harleys my whole life so I’m curious how it compares.
I think you have to watch Michael Rutter on a plod round the TT to see what the bike is capable of. Not seen anyone push a bike to its limits like the TT Boys.
Adam it looks like the commute on the R1 was better than the Duc. How do you feel which is better when comparing the 2 for street riding? Thanks
Please reply. My r1 was lost in the accident. Thinking about v4s
Alright, I have serious wood for this bike.
I'll never be able to afford one but I can dream.
Is there a good piece of road out there?
Pulling wheelies on a 200+bhp bike by dumping the clutch... You've got the guts, but you got scared as hell, didn't you? LOL Beautiful bike and excellent video! Thanks a lot!
trust me - in comparison to the V2 1199/1299 there is absolutely no heat problem with the V4!
Which neighborhood he rides in?
Great honest review
I got to get a ride on one of these I’d be so hyped the whole time it’d be hilarious 😆
Has ducati modified their red over the years or is it the same color?
I had this out on a Demo last week and man that Suspension makes your bones judder in either mode.
That was the deal breaker for me.....
If I was looking to buy it for Track use, I would've gone for it, but my commute is 26 miles each way and I'd rather get there and back without having to worry about arthritis later on in life.
Sexy machine though!
Don't know what you did buy but totally agree it's not a commuter machine. It is truly a second motorcycle for some one who can afford the luxury.
I still love my 1299S over the V4S....and yes I did consider buying the V4S and even test rode one.
FirebladePilot why?
That construction on University sucks. I do that reverse commute every morning.
Thanks for the info, dad
You're welcome son.
"Its a bike that's going to turn a lot of wrench's"
The areas you mentioned about the improved fit and finish was the brakes(made by brembo) and suspension(Ohlins) and rusty engine(Ducati). Lol. This is like supercars when they had their “quirks” couple of decades ago. Ducati is all looks kinda choice anyways.
You mentioned top of the line and the pinnacle of what Ducati has to offer, but then where does the V4R stand?
CVI.LaNell_ if I am correct, V4R is under 1000cc and is not street legal
That power quote is right if you got 187 or what ever to the wheel...
Looks good Boss !!
+1. Also try not ramble so much where u keep going back to stuff you already discussed.
But it sounds like a single with the stock exauste
Damn, the panigale is so pretty. She is beautiful and I love her so much, just like my R3.
