I want a wheel chair door on my bus in that exact spot. It would be cool to have a little garage in the back where I can store things like my tool box, and the lift would be perfect for getting heavy stuff in and out 😅
Damn that's a cute little bus, but with big wheels (duals even) and likely an engine to match. A little jealous, not going to lie. I could never do that myself.
i have no problem doing a roof raise on a schoolie, however, I am finding it very hard to get a clear answer about getting insurance! I'd rather not "be very creative"about it with my insurance provider because life experience has taught me that you shouldn't "be creative" about what you actually did with either your insurance co. or your lawyer. P.S. I'm not looking for full replacement type policy, just decent liability type stuff. Thanks for making all the long hours of unpaid work you put in to make it easier for all of us Chuck
Im right in the middle of trying to figure out the best way to frame the transition of my roof raise with wood. I used your method of the 2 inch wide 3/4 inch plywood everywhere else.
Chuck thanks for a ton of helpful info. I'm getting ready to start on my first bus build. I've built a couple enclosed offroad trailers. I'm curious as to why you don't insulate the floor from the bottom outside of the vehicle?
Classy. Also, the president chay youtuber uploaded another video where he does a full size bus conversion. I didn't watch it but it also looks like he did a roof raise interested to see your opinion on it if you make a video about it
Great looking bus. We never know what you will come up with. I do have a question that you and/or you subscribers may have ran into. Hello, I just ran into a strange problem and need some help. My thought was to get a retired box truck to convert into a DYI R/V. The problem is I contacted my insurance company to get a idea of the cost. I was told when I buy the box truck I would need commercial insurance for private use. This was a surprise and very expensive. The insurance company's hangup is that its weigh is over 10,000 pounds. Yet once the R/V conversion is done I can get private R/V insurance. It would seem that I could buy a massive class A and get R/V insurance right off the bat. My understanding is R/V insurance is the cheapest then Private insurance and Commercial the most expensive. What am I missing? Any ideas? Thank You,
nice job how can i send you picks of what i did .. my daughter is in a wheelchaie so we use the lift .. we did ohio to washington last year 6500 miles and we have another one in october from Winnipeg to new oreleans ,, at 6000 miles trip . i have found a trick for the bus windows ... wish i had found you long ago .. i would have changer some things . we are where we are now
Do you have more information or go into more depth about those sloped transitions? I'm in the midst of a roof raise and currently starting my paneling. I'm not sure what to do or how to approach the slope, but figured I'd figure it out when i go there. Also, I noticed your paneling doesn't go all the way up the sides and under the rood paneling...it looks like it stops short. Is there enough overlap up there to avoid water seepage or do you also use an autobody sealant?
Very nicely done I like how clean your work is. Have you ever done anything to remove or hide that flared gutter over each of the individual windows? Leaving those make it clear that it used to be a school bus once it has been painted with a consistent color
If you want to build a truly convenient, comfortable motorhome - a city/coach bus is the only option. School buses have disgustingly hard suspension, are hard to drive, and are essentially trucks with a doghouse. Do you remember even one comfortable school bus? The only reason people buy school buses is because they are cheap. You can find a school bus for $3,000 and even $1,000 in relatively good condition, while a city/coach bus will cost $10,000. That's why all these hippies love school buses so much and why all the normal people build motorhomes based on city/coach buses.
lol normal people? You can get school buses all day long with air ride suspension-if you want a bus under 30ft long, it’s gonna have to be a school bus
$400 per length? Per inch, foot, yard, bus length? Also are there any concerns with a missing lower window in the door? Even semi trucks have a lower window to see cars next to them in the bus.
@@ChuckCassadyYT is the process universal to most makes and models are so you have a certain type of bus you like to work with? I think I will schedule a consult soon if you have any availability. Love your work
CHARLIE - You HAVE to watch this build & comment. Fairly big "influencer" (President Chay, 835k subscribers) with a not-cheap build, roof raise (4 feet ?!) & more than a couple questionable decisions made (to my eye, from things I've learned from watching most of your videos) "I turned a SCHOOL BUS into a LUXURY tiny home" th-cam.com/video/N5SSWumNAp8/w-d-xo.html
I’m kinda bummed- I just discovered your channel a couple days ago, with some of your videos from 2+ years ago… Obviously, you’re still doing some cool bus stuff, but I’m having FOMO from not finding your channel a few years ago when your shop was cranking out builds. 🙂😕🤔
This channel is the “This Old House” of TH-cam.
This old bus.
Love the vibes of this bus already!
Happy to hear that!
The door closes very nicely, good job.
This short, stout bus has me feeling some kinda way. so handsome.
Same…👀

"Texas tig" is stick welding while feeding a second rod with the other hand

Very cool. I'm impressed. 32 years in manufacturing
Please drop the engine and tranny combo next time so i can lust after these buses more

nice project thanks Chuck .
Thanks 👍
Great information on a roof raised
The bus does look awesome with the sloped roof, would love a more in depth video tutorial for building that.
"RV or better windows..." What are better than RV windows? Great job, btw! Love your videos.
Thanks for sharing 🎉

Chuck, you’re so talented in building a bus.
I don’t know where you’re at here in WA.
We live in the mountains between Cashmere and Leavenworth.
good stance baby!
As usual Chuck, classy...
Thanks again!

Hi, Chuck do you have any advice or videos about the DT360? Thank you, love your videos!

I've wondered why not use that rust prevention stuff under the bus

6.44 - thats not wht a texas tig is, but that is good advice for welding thin materials
can you use 16 gauge vs 18 gauge skins? if so what would be the downside. I'm have a hard time finding 18 gauge galvaniel here in northern Illinois.

You can certainly cut those off, and some buses don’t have one that flares out for every window but is a continuous gutter
Hello Chuck, great content. Have you or do you intend to critique the skoolie bus builds of navigation nowhere? He has a YT channel. Thanks
You mentioned other windows to use besides RV windows. Such as?
Look up Arctic tern windows. Spendy but nice.
@@atomicsmitharen’t those RV windows as well?
You can use house windows, fixed pane automotive glass, plexiglass domes, etc
Exactly why I want to buy a Cassady bus
I've always wondered if the wheelchair lifts can be converted into a motorcycle lift. Ever tried?
How tall is okay for a bus?
What size are the large rv windows in the front?
I believe they were 48x22
Have you considered doing a city transit bus? like a gillig low floor?

is it possible to not remove the windows or wheelechair door?
Anyone who uses the bus windows regards it.
The stock doors and windows leak a lot. I know because I ride one of these. The stock windows are not insulated either.
Now I wish I didn't remove all the rivets above the windows. That was sp much freaking work.
Question: why must one flush the toilet with fresh water? Why can’t you flush with grey water from the shower?
Are your rivets stainless Or aluminum
They are zinc coated steel
Was this your Oregon bus? That You drove back to denver
Nope, this is a different bus but the same model, good eye!
Fuel mileage 🤔
Was this for a customer or is this bus for sale?
For a customer
what do you charge to do this?
I’m also interested. These guys are clearly pros at this.
Roof raise is about $400 per length of bus plus the cost of any add ons like the new door and wire cleanup etc
$400 per length? Per inch, foot, yard, bus length?
