I watched these episodes with a female friend and she frickin buried this storytelling, rolling her eyes and shaking her fist and everything. It was hilarious. But she also had stories to share about people she knows who really are like that, annoying and entitled. I think the writers are not trying to make She Hulk annoying per se; they genuinely believe it and/or that there is a massive market for this sort of stuff.
Always fun to watch your videos, Alteori!

This is a show made by single, entitled, upper-middle class career women in their late 30s ekth no self-awareness of the world around them, made for single, entitled, upper-middle class career women in their late 30s with no self awareness of the world around them. She-Hulk is basically just their self-insert/power fantasy. They don't know the charavter apart from random decontextualized references from the comics they were given to insert for meaningless fan service. The real Jen Walters is fun, well-rounded, sassy, but in a flirtatious way and not the "sarcastic" way, and kind, especially to her cousin Bruce, who she actively goes out of her way to help. She doesn't have Hulk's split personality problem because that is a product of Bruce's childhood trauma. She is much more well rounded, and because she knows her cousin and his problems, she treats him decently like a human being, understands the immense struggles and traumas of his history, and does what she can to be there for him. She doesn't bust his balls and talk trash about him, she's a sociable person who works well with teams, and she's not a high-strung, high-maintenance, perpetual victim like this show's Jen is. You can argue that it's bad that she's a tokenized character and not someone more original, but she is, when written well, anyway, a good and endearing character (at least until relatively recently when feminists took over the character like they did with the show). These people making this show (as well a lot of other MCU stuff these days) do not know, do not appreciate, and don't care to properly educate themselves about the main character or any of the characters of their show.

The fact that it is a rare thing for us women to do speaks volumes. I love my dad more than ANYTHING else in the world and I watched as my mother belittled him and the minute he spoke up to tell her how she was treating him OR us, she punished him. I've seen my peers do it to their SOs and the shit you hear females say behind closed doors... whew! They have a nerve to criticize locker room talk but I have heard MUCH WORSE things including "lighthearted jests at poisoning one of their boyfriends". Seriously, tf?
It's like some of these women forget they have fathers, brothers, uncles, and sons.

@@Alteori Dang, I'm sorry your dad went through that and you had to witness it. And I agree, many women now a days really take men for granted yet still preach about being the victim, while completely ignoring males who've been wronged or mistreated. I just recently watched some videos from justpearlythings, and seeing some of those women still disregard men's hardships with their twisted conflicting logic was baffling to say the least. Which makes it even more aggravating when our sources of entertainment and escapism continuously lecture us about how bad we are. It doesn't help when you hear this everywhere now a days and when people call it out, they are scolded and berated as "incels" or "anti-woke snowflakes". I just want a good story, likable characters, and not have to be reminded of woke or modern politics. Thank God there are a handful of good content out there like Primal, The Boys, and Invincible.
Either way, you're videos are great as always Alteori, keep up the good work! ;)

@@Alteori, just so you know this isn't the She-Hulk that the *real* fans wanted. She was actually a likeable character. She's She-Hulk in name only, Jenn was shy, timid, not confident, *before* she became She-Hulk. She had better control, she was weaker than Hulk though. She thought that being a superheroine was awesome and she loved it. She-Hulk is like the opposite of the Hulk. The Hulk is like Bruce 's inner self and it's the same with She-Hulk. I suggest if you have time to look up the actual character. Which is more than what the showrunners did, because they admittedly themselves that they barely used the source material and that they didn't like it. They said that used Ally McBeal and Legally Blonde as inspirations, and they changed the origin cause it was too hard or something. Bruce saves Jen and he gives her an emergency blood transfusion. Jenn was working a case that involved the mob in the comics and they put attempted to put a hit out on her. Bruce saved her, it's much more interesting. Read the *classic* comics, cartoons, video games, of She-Hulk to get a real feel for the character. This show had upset *real* fans of her character.

You know, there is something to be said when Men cannot even defend their own Sex without immediately being canceled or call misogynistic and with media constantly telling them that they are trash and treat women horribly and that they need to be taken down a peg by a strong woman.
That it takes a rational and kind hearted woman like Alteori to remind us that not all Men are like that. In fact a vast majority of Men are not like that. Men deal with so much and have to bottle up so much, because if they dont, anyone could use that to destroy their lives. I mean just look at Johnny Depp, all it took was one word from Amber Heard for him to be kicked out of several movie franchises immediately, whereas its only now, after how many court cases and mountains worth of evidence for people to finally get that Amber Heard is not a good person.
I am not saying that women dont have it rough. There are clearly Men who do horrible things to women and those kinds of Men are scum. But not every man is like that, yet most modern women will assume a man will be that way before they even know him.

9:32 Yeah... The problem is not that men have more anger to control, or testosterone makes men angry... rather, the issue is that she doesn't control her anger... at all... Wasn't she just trying to hulk out and kill several men just a scene ago JUST FOR HITTING ON HER!?! I don't know... Maybe she was in control... Maybe she wasn't angry... I don't know what her emotional state is when she murders random men outside bars, so she could have been ecstatically happy for all I know.

Apparently proper controlling of anger is only for men nowadays, I really hate how She Hulk has been degraded this way into being an entitled angst ridden feminism character just like all the others who complains and bitches about men so much.
She was so chill in older comics, her inner self was all about confidence and self empowerment it was already inspiring. Its kind of the one thing that she has over Bruce is that being a Hulk did nothing but help and make her life better.

From what I know, and take that as very anecdotal, from my man - I think men tend to react with 'anger' 'aggression' or 'confrontation' much more than females when confronted with a problem. We females tend to be more anxious and cautious, while men are more confrontational. One could argue, that higher testosterone suppresses or overrides anxiety and fear. Which makes sense for a creature that's supposed to be competitive with each other, protect the weaker members of its species and hunt for big, dangerous prey.

Comic book she hulk is still more awesome than the live action. Comic book she hulk didn't give a fuck, and is just a bad ass. In one comic after she had a one night stand with Hercules, people found Hercules wandering the street all delirious or something not really knowing where he was naked. And everyone was like "oh so you were with She-Hulk last night weren't you" and he was like "yeah..... Will she call back?" And they tell him pretty much the equivalent of "bro, she never calls back" it's just gold.
I will admit that as far as looks are concerned compared to the comics they actually look pretty similar and I'm genuinely surprised by that, good job studio for that casting. Now if only they could keep it non-political but this is a Hollywood movie/show now so that's almost impossible
Which is why I absolutely hate the "I control my anger infinitely more than you" scene.
Bruce banner got so low at some point he tried committing suicide. Was hated and hunted for most of his life his father was absolutely awful and the cause of why he is the hulk essentially. On top of the having to control his rage so he doesn't hulk out and hurt people around him stuff since then up until the point he became professor hulk... And people are applauding her for that because of the "oh but I'm a woman" thing... That's extremely disrespectful and honestly very insensitive of her. (But as I said earlier this is a Hollywood She-Hulk so she's going to be political to the point where it's absolute cringe and disrespectful and hypocritical)

When they were throwing rocks, bruce gets a point cause he throws a massive bouldèr into space.
She hulk is more flexible cause Hulk's body is massive and brute like.
The clap scene on the other hand, is that hulk can create a shock wave, which would make anything close to the shockwave fly, while she hulk can create... a sound wave? Idk the term, but basically her claps are painful to the ear, but doesn't have much knockback.

Especially with the mcu cause with the way that the writing and quality is going with their content it’s just not it anymore. Seriously wish they had just taken a break after endgame to actually plan their next saga. With Disney at the helm their forcing companies like marvel and Star Wars to pump out as many products as they can to maintain control over the entertainment industry. Because of that shows like she hulk end up just being mid and mediocre. Not saying anyone can’t enjoy it but that’s just what it is. The scene that rubs me (F28) the wrong way, and undermines genuine struggles people have gone through (at least that's how it comes off), is this scene where she's talking to Bruce about how angry she gets cos men catcall her or "mansplain" things to her. Complaining how the world is unfair and cruel to her ; saying all this to Bruce, who grew up enduring physical and emotional abuse from his father throughout his entire childhood.
Also her boiling like an erupting volcano pretty much telling Bruce (with FAR MORE experience with controlling his anger despite his horrific past, mind you) "I CONTROL MY ANGER INFINATELY MORE THAN YOU!" , I was just like "Yeaaaaaaah... If multiple men do it to her every day it wouldn't be far fetched to imagine she eventually builds resentment to it. The whole big baggy clothes no makeup thing wouldn't fly for her either, she is a professional in corporate world so she probably has to wear at least some makeup and office clothing. 11:05 I don't know about that article. Statistically, women are more likely to initiate physical violence with partners than men, so... Seems like an unfair assertion that men are more physically aggressive. Rather, it's just noticed and taken more seriously when men get violent, largely due to our size and strength among other issues. Rather, I'd say violent men feel safer committing violent acts due to their size, while violent women are 1) less likely to act on their urges due to fear of reprisals due to their smaller size, and 2) not noticed as much nor taken as seriously due to societal views on women, with these two factors leading to the illusion that men are more violent and leaving testosterone to take the blame. Again, this is further illustrated in domestic violence where women are both far more violent and far safer in being more violent as the partners they abuse are largely weakened in their ability to respond or seek help as they will be arrested regardless of the initiator, they will likely be mocked ("You got beat up by a girl? ROFL!", the women will be seen as justified ("What did you do to make her so mad?"), and society has trained them to never hit a woman even in self-defense, while in violent crime at random they lose their leverage and become far meeker.

He holds back his personal opinions, he holds back his anger, he even hold back his strength. I'm so glad there ARE women like you Alteori. Makes me feel like maybe there's hope.
I just wish you weren't such a rarity.
Believe me, I know how ironic and just plain weird it sounds, but being a "white" (hate that term, we're not some monocultural hivemind) and male today is not a fun experience.
If any group of people is being "oppressed" today, it's us. We're certainly discriminated against and have our issues ignored.
If we're lucky. A lot of the times we're ridiculed or blamed ourselves for every adversity we face.
And, to top it all off, we're told that we're sexist and oppressive for even pointing out the injustices we face.
At least I didn't have to grow up in this Orwellian shitshow. I can only imagine how rough it must be for the younger lads growing up in this.
No matter where you turn you're always being told that you're the villain, that everything's your fault, that you need to step aside and you're not allowed to have ambitions or want to achieve something. You're just supposed sit down, shut up and pay for everything.
It's especially galling when I know from experience, just like you Al, that women can be every bit as predatory and prone to violations as men.
More so, in a way, because when women do these things it's rarely taken seriously or it's just hand waved away with the usual "men do it more" excuse.
Even though that's just not how it really is. Women who do violence are more covert and socially manipulative about it.
Men who do violence are overt about it (and usually not that great at social manipulation unless they're a legitimate sociopath).
Oh, yeah, this was supposed to be about the show, right?
It's a poorly written/directed/acted/everything misandrist claptrap that is every bit as insulting to women as it is to men.
Even the CGI is subpar for the current year. It'd be okay 15 years ago.
It's a shame, because the source material is actually good.
In capable hands it could have been a really good show.

16:28-16:32 I wanted to see that, too!
18:24-18:44 This is basically, if Captain Marvel had only ONE episode of a tv show.
This is the problem with future writers of MARVEL: they HEAVILY INSIST that they will create characters that will never struggle against stronger experienced characters-- ones that have EARNED their struggles to get to where they are now-- and be relatable because they are flawless. But by doing that, the characters that are flawless without struggling will always be unrelatable.
You know what I wanna see? I wanna see characters that have EARNED their flawless skill. Like Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, Spider-Man. . . Whoever I'm missing!
22:31-22:41 NO! This is NOT how women should be portrayed in movies and tv shows! Oh! Actually, another thing I wanna see, is have a traumatic event happen that causes the main protagonist and/or title character to close themselves off from other people, having them appear as stoic people. Instead, we get none of that.

Late to the party and everything aside, the scene where the women dress her up as a "lady of the night" seriously makes me question that this was a series written by women. I went clubbing with friends regularly in my early-mid 20s and if a girl walked into the bathroom in the state that shehulk did....we would have been calling 911, NOT dressing her up as a hooker (seriously. There is something magical about the random friendships you make in club bathrooms). This seriously disgusts me that the writers assumed that other women do not have the wherewithall to read the fucking room and understand that she had clearly been through *something*...something that could not be fixed by a cheap $20 f21 faux fur jacket and a bit of a makeup.

Were women lack in physical aggression they make up for it via social aggression. Jordan peterson has broken it down quite well before.
Society doesnt view social aggression as a real threat. Thats why they are allowed to ruin men with little consequences.
A man slaps a woman back after she hits him. He goes to jail. A woman calls a man a rapist out of anger, he loses his job.

Am gonna leave here what the hulk has gone through.
Abusive father who beat him almost to a coma (making him build up alot of anger), his father killed his mother infront of him (giving Bruce a second personality made out of anger), got gamma radiation on his body (giving his second personality a body that it can control), had to leave Betty for her own safety (he was getting hunted by the military), Black widow died, cant smash because when he gets horny he turns into the hulk so.... pp too big and hulk too wild basically, got hunted by the military for 3 years, wanted to kill himself four times but the hulk saved him, wanda mind controled him and made the hulk destroy a city, thanos beat him up, got stuck as the hulk for two years (two years in earth, alot more for the planet saakar), the infinity gauntlet burned him, got called a monster for almost 8 years before profesor hulk in end game and had to listen to jen talk.

She-Hulk in name only, apparently the writers didn't know much about She-Hulk and didn't use much of the source material, and that they didn't really research law which isn't shocking.

This whole video sums up my though on both these ep. Me and my mom both looked confused when she was talking down to Bruce also with crash scene I would made it were for a split second Bruce trun back into the raging monster seeing how his device was failing. So he pops out the car injuring his cousin in the process and once he comes to he relazied what he done so he rushes to his lab and try to save her realizing she lost alot of blood on the way and losing time and feeling guilty Bruce give her his blood saying to himself "I already lose my family once I can't lose you too" something on those lines. And boom same out come but more a stake also it be a nod to the animated show which Bruce donate his blood to save her when she was dying.

Bruce genuinly comes off as such a good character in this show or atleast comparatively to the rest of the sexist charicature of men, yes man, straw man, mysoginistic charicature of a woman (she hulk) that the rest of the cast is. hes grounded, hes positive, hes in the position of a mentor, dudes has more PHD's and degrees and specialities in science than i have fingers to count em on so he is also a healthy authority figure in the show, hes funny and he actually talks and acts like a fucking person, hes trying to calm an animal like people managed to do with him while the hulk took over, he makes a smug i told you so face when he ticks her off with the slightest prodding and poking into how HIS ISSUE is affecting her now, he pushes his cousin off a cliff cause they are fucking hulks and he knows she will be alright and its genuinly a funny moment
compared to she hulk that lives up to every baselss mysoginistic assumption and strawman that you can even think of, of a woman. shes hysterical, shes over emotional, shes snarky, she blames everyone but herself, gaslight gatekeep girlbosses her way through life, shes bitchy and bossy, she has no selfawareness, shes entitled, shes apathetic comparing everyone elses struggle to hers and deminshes their struggle by claiming her struggle is oh so much worse in every way (despite Bruce Banner objectively by all fucking measures having had a harder life, for context he was abused as a child, his mother was beaten to death in front of him by hus abusive father and was bullied into not testifying against him, after escaping this abusive life with his fathers future arrest and imprisonment Bruce then later gained the parasytic personality of hulk that casued his life so much serious grief making him a target to the military and the rest of the world and at the end of the day Hulk wouldnt even let Bruce kill himself to escape the suffering and torment, this went on for a total of about 15 years in that time being brainwashed to murder civilians by scarlet witch pushing Bruce deeper into depression as none of it has ever been of his willingness hes just been forced to sit back in his own life while someone else took the wheel, his depression got so bad that he decided to submit himself to the endless cosmos rather than have his friends deal with him because he saw himself as that much of a burden, he was then whiplashed around in the Infinity war and End game timepsan having any and all feeling of utility in his hopeless existence be snuffed when the hulk got whipped into place by thanos and only really managed to let go when he and hulk managed to find some semblence of peace and become doctor hulk or whatever) now back to she hulk, shes back talking, oversharing others secrets and overly intrusive into others lives behind their backs, shes a blabbermouth and a tattletale. Like ffs she tried to kill 3 guys talking intrusively infront of the bar, they were talking, not whistling cat calling or anything, they were at most intrusively conversing and she was about to KILL THEM
There is an insanely good plot point in making her realise, shes just "good" at repressing her emotions not controlling and dealing with them. But naaaah the writers wont do that

I agree. The later Marvel movies and Disney+ shows have had worse CGI than ever before. I think its because Marvel is just trying to make a bunch of things at once so their CGI team isnt big enough to do all of the movies.

Thank you for keeping it Fair & Real, Alteori because you gave me more of a reason not to watch this show. I love Hulk & She-Hulk but this isn't the She-Hulk that I know of & Mark's Hipster Hulk (Professor Hulk executed poorly just to cater to Kids, my Young Cousin who is now 13 didn't even like "Professor Hulk" either when Endgame came out). Screw Mark Ruffalo because he is a Political Diverse Nutjob like the others in Hollywood. By the way I do own the She-Hulk Origin Comic where she is far more likeable & the Dynamic between herself and Bruce is being treated like Brother-n-Sister NOT what they're trying to do here! I'm gonna be watching I Am Groot since it won't insult me by diminishing my Most Favorite Marvel Characters. By the way I love Hulk 2008 & see it very underrated but luckily there is now a Cult Following I am seeing around TH-cam👍.

Apparently, there's two types of catcalls; the classic flirting/complimenting, and some sort of trollish thing that's just done to make women feel uncomfortable; and the people complaining about it don't bother recognizing that and just treat everything the same way...

The fact that you are so deliciously objective in this review is the reason i watch your channel with much pleasure. Also it make me happy when i noticed by accident you have 500k subscribers and i realised that last time i watched that number was around under 100k haha! Well deserved by any standard! Keep up the awesome work! Edit: I trully enjoyed Vampire diaries even though it wast a chick flick, it had a developing story and managed to surprise me constantly. Even watched the spin-off Originals. At Legacies i said no. Too much identity politics to swallow for a chick flick. I gave it a one episode chance to convince me and it "didn't" dissapoint with politics. But yeah TVD and Originals were good tv shows.

What I hated about this show is how they torpedoed the original reason how JW became She-Hulk. She was shot by the mob. That would've been awesome and you set up the first big bad. Underworld crime boss hiring people like Blonski or Titania or a slue of other super powered bad guys to fight her. This way you can stick with the original source material and make it new at the same time. Show her struggle fending off the threat while trying to protect friends, family, and the like. I swear HBO or Amazon Prime should do hero movies. Show people getting knocked off or knocked up on the reg like in the actual comics, but no PG Disney + has to get their sickingly sweet Mouse Mitts on this and well make it family friendly. Where are the days of Disney when you see Bambi's mom get shot. A "hulk" show with more dialog than show, in the words of Abomination in The Incredible Hulk ; "Give me a real fight."

Good breakdown overall but i will say that there are times where you conflate aggresion with anger and that is just flat out false. The 2 can lead to each other in certain circumstances, but they are absolutely not the same thing and the abstract you were reading was very specifically discussing aggresion and implicitly in a way that was seperate from anger going by the wording (referring to things like rough and tumble play, which is aggressive but is not angry). Men are more aggressive, at least more physically aggressive, but I don't see any evidence that they are more or less angry. Simply that their anger manifests in more aggressive ways.

Again, a female lead with no arc, much better than her male counterpart, no training necessary. And she's immediately liked instead of repudiated.

  • @thegreywanderer8427
    @thegreywanderer8427 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The writers were clearly pulling the debate between who's had it harder between Bruce & Jennifer from one of the comic books where Bruce is actually saying to Jennifer that she's had it much easier than him, and she tells him about her issues as a female superhero, especially about how her looks cause a lot of objectification and even sexual harassment, with a lot of the villains she's fought groping her and such, which Bruce never had to deal with.
The show failed at translating this discussion of valid female superhuman issues because in the comic book Jennifer has had a long career as a superhero and she's had years and years of such treatment, while in the show she's been She-Hulk just for a few days. This failed debate just made her look very bad and unlikable while in the comic book she's definitely got the reader's empathy.
And of course it doesn't help that the internet is blowing these single bad scenes out of all proportion, when the episodes do have good moments too. I for example appreciate it a lot that the humor is paced a lot better than it was in Thor 4, making the show much more watchable than that movie.

U my friend are pissing in the wind, Marvel and it's new found terrible characters, storytelling, and wokeness probably isn't going to generate too many more good movies and shows in the near future. The heroes journey isn't even being told correctly and there's a literal template for that shit 🤣 and the girl power movement in the genre hasn't once been told in such a way that normal humans can relate to. Also, How many more times can u watch the same thing before ur tired of it. It's like eating the same hamburger everyday for 10yrs now but u went from Ruth's Chris gourmet cheeseburgers to eating cold quarter pounders from McDonald's.
