You can also put the car into neutral, go onto the grass, and let the resistance slow you down, so it's not like there's only one way to stop a car with no brakes.

Never put the car in neutral when attempting to slow down. As long as your foot is entirely off the gas pedal, the engine in gear will impart more resistance to rolling than neutral will. If you need to slow down faster, keep shifting down until you get to first. Once you are traveling at idle speed, 2 to 3 mph, shut off the engine.

Its also been pointed out how ridiculous it is, that in Daredevil S1, the Kingpin has learned Chinese and Japanese in secret so he's able to listen to his business partners converse without them knowing how intelligent he is, but here, he hasn't learned sign language for his own adopted daughter?

    • @Alteori

Well by that logic that it is pretty stupid that he hasn't learned to sign. Guessing they wrote it that way so that he could seem more of a bad guy but that's weird writing because he did learn to sign, "I love you."

@@Alteori They did it to make him weaker because the Kingpin from Daredevil, loving her or not, would have killed Maya for shooting him. He would NEVER basically begged her to come back after what she did so they had to change and weaken him so the show even works. The Kingpin has loyalty but it has its limits and he is eternally practical when it comes to betrayal, he's also a beast on the level that has gone hand to hand with Captain America and would have killed him if Falcon did not show up.

3:07 In the drivers defense it's easy to forget things like emergency brakes in a stressful situation. I know a person that completely forgot how a fire extinguisher worked while their kitchen was on fire because they were too busy panicking .

    • @Alteori
      @Alteori  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

Natural selection I guess lol. My ex and I were in a situation where the brakes on his pickup failed and he pulled the handbrake and was a less experienced driver than me. If you cannot exercise a basic - in case of emergency - in a vehicle that can kill people, then you ought not to be driving it. She had copious amounts of time. Better writing would have been showing her pull he E-brake and the car still not stop.
Also lol I was in a situation where my OTHER exboyfriend's mother's house caught on fire. That ex was in a wheelchair so his younger brother came and got me and was freaking out. I watched him panic and use a TINY TINY bowl to run frantically back and forth with water for which 90% of it spilled out before reaching the blazing fire that was climbing up the curtains. Maybe it's bc I'm calm in those situations but I walked away into his little sister's room and looked around for material that was flammable and found one of his sister's parkas.
I used her jacket to beat the fire out from the couch and the curtains. HOLY SHIT THE SMOKE!!! IT FELT LIKE GLASS IN MY LUNGS and NOW i know why people die of smoke inhalation. I almost passed out and wanted to get out before I did. But I pushed through bc some of the animals were still in he house and I didn't want my bf and his family to lose their house.
I managed to put out the fire with that little pink coat, but the house was now inundated with black smoke. I quickly got the turtles out. I grabbed the two cats that were scratching at the windows. I felt so bad remembering that. They were terrified but they let me pick them up. Lol I had two cats under one arm and a bigass turtle in the other hand LOL. Lookng back at it now I can laugh. My bf had gone out bc his room was on the far side of the house with the ramp. His little brother had bounced a long time ago when he realized it was fruitless.
He fking left me in there 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 But RIGHT after I place the anmals in my bf bathroom which was the farthest from the smoke and fire. I went out the front door and the firemen were just pulling up.
They went inside and one asked if I was ok. I was coughing so much it was hard to talk. They asked if I put out the fire or something like that. The guy was impressed and jokingly asked if I wanted to be a fireman 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Then the cop that was asking questions after had a hard time believing I was dating my wheelchair bound bf. He looked at me and then him and shook his head lol. WOW. ANYWAYS..... all that to say I guess it depends on the person but then maybe it would benefit some people to have survival lessons. Same with what they do with little babies if they fall in a pool. They have classes to train babies to flip onto their back.
As grownups though, we must be ready when operating dangerous items esp to protect our families.

The fight with Daredevil really ruined any chance for me to like this show for me. It was ridiculous. I’m a double below knee amputee & I use prosthetic legs. There is absolutely no way she would have the mobility to fight like that. When you have no leg, ankle or muscles below your knee you cannot move like that. Echo's original powers was that she can copy stuff she sees. She's proficient at specific things cuz she watched someone else do them and copies it.
But they said that power is lame, even though, judging from the show, it's kinda questionable why there's any conflict when she has all these powers for any situation. Echo had limitations on what she could copy, like she can't copy superhuman abilities.
Not to mention her being deaf leaves her open to stuff she can't notice via hearing.

That power they called lame is the main power of a bunch of popular characters. It's like a default cool power for combat characters. It's op but creators usual remember to highlight the body can mimic moves but not strength so the character has to understand how to implement the skill to their advantage. These folks have no imagination and that's why they dismiss cool things as "lame".
A young Michelle Rodriguez would've killed a role like this. I know the ethnicity doesn't match up, but a actress with her innate badass vibe would've been so cool to watch.

In the comics, Echo can fight on par with daredevil because she had experience and powers equal yet opposite to daredevil. In the comics she is called Echo because if anyone comes within her range of eyesight, she can mimic any movement/action they do almost perfectly to an almost foresight degree. Daredevil is similar but with hearing. In the show however she's called Echo for a completely different reason that is not as compelling. Her amount of experience in the show is not at all like the comics and makes no sense how she can actually fight Daredevil.

I think what's more frustrating is that they are hiding behind the terrible writing for this series. They are only talking about the representation for Native Americans, Deaf people, and amputees. They are using representation as a shield and it's so stupid. Representation in media is important no doubt but if it's the only thing you are willing to talk about then don't even bother. There are plenty of movies that show good representation AND have a good story.
Prey (2022) is so freaking good! They even have a Comanche version where everyone speaks Comanche.
A Quiet Place has a deaf actress with sign language and subtitles for them. (This movie isn't perfect but it's better than Echo.)
We can't forget Bucky who needs no explanation.
Really, the main point is that you can have good representation in media but don't prioritize it over story because if you do, then eventually people will see through it and no longer support it.

Echo in the comics, her powers are similar to Taskmaster. In that she is able to mimic the skills and techniques of anyone she sees. No matter how advanced the combat or skill is, once she's seen it, she can mimic it. Thats how she's able to keep up with characters like Daredevil who have more experience than her.
That being said, her deafness is a weakness for her. She's like what Daredevil is with sight. Daredevil is blind, but his other senses are heightened to make up for it to superhuman levels. She's deaf and the same is for her. She doesn't even sign that much in the comics, she can carry a normal conversation due to her training to read lips, even through her peripheral vision and she has occasionally been shown to make out some words through a fabric mask like Spider-Mans. However, she cant understand people like Iron Man when his helmets down. And she's completely useless in a dark room where she cant see.
Her powers and her limits made her interesting. She had a physical limit, but she worked hard to overcome it and is able to live a semi normal life because of it. But course Disney/Marvel had to botch the entire thing and completely change her character and powers. Heck they even changed her tribe. They just completely changed her character to fit their narrative. No repeat for the source material or the fans that actually liked her character.

the flashbacks are such utter nonsense when you know anything about Choctaw culture : They're a matrillineal clan system. Women run the families and you belong to your mothers family line. Women are considered more important because they can give life, the most important thing to the clan. Men go to war because they are expendable, ultimately less important. They don't exercise power over the women because of this, there was no singular chief, it was a council of men and women who ran the affairs of the clan groups. Being a 'life giver' put you above the 'life takers'.
So every time one of her ancestor is girlbossing it up, she's disrespecting her own culture... but being authentically native american is only important up until it gets in the way of modern sociopolitical causes, i guess.

The fact that she even keyed dispatch twice without a response, says the writers don't know anything, or that dispatch is gone. Also I find it ironic how this show wants you to like this character (because she's indigenous, deaf and an amputee), but her ACTIONS completely contradict that. Basically the show tells us to like Echo, but her actions are very indicative of a villain rather than a hero. She's unlikable, selfish, doesn't learn her lesson and puts her family in danger. Based on this, each ancestor isn’t contributing with their experience, but somehow just suddenly using it to cheat in the moment, meaning the power is literally feeding off itself to grow. How does that make any sense?!

8:23 Actually Alteori, just to inform you it's not necessary to watch Netflix Daredevil but to understand that Echo is a Supporting Character for Daredevil from the Comics but of course Disney/MCU wants people to see a Diverse Main Lead than the one who is the supposed to be the Main Lead (lastly: Fan Service).

I think they said the Mother was also deaf, so Maya inherited it, can't heal what you were born with I think. Also, you keep saying experience, but we were shown that Maya trained to fight since she was a child, since Kingpin adopted her as his niece, even before her dad was killed. You see Kingpin go through a few different translators too, and she was working as one of his enforcers for many years.

Big bad guy responsible for killing main character's dad, then takes main character under their wing and trains them to be their personal enforcer. Then main character is convinced that their master has lied to them by an enemy on the job then they go back to exact revenge against their former boss. The mom refusing to heal her daughter’s deafness reminds me of a show that tackled a similar issue. a little show called House MD, where a mother with dwarfism was under the impression her daughter had it too, and she always told her daughter it’s not a disability, it makes you unique. but, in the episode, it’s discovered that she simply has a growth pushing against her pituitary gland, keeping her short, so the daughter has never been an actual dwarf. because of everything she’s been told by her mom, she believes that she doesn’t need to take the growth hormones after the tumor is removed, because she doesn’t need to be any taller, but House convinces her mother to convince her to get taller despite there being nothing wrong with having a disability. one would hope that, given the chance, they wouldn’t force themselves to overcome adversity, and that’s exactly the sentiment the dwarf mother relays. “a disability isn’t a problem that needs to be solved, but you, my daughter, have a chance to live a life I never could. Please take the growth hormones.” you’d think every mom would think this way but apparently not, because you can hire writers through Wish now

This makes me think they might have tried to copy arcane... And didn't understand anything about it.
But the idea that this was a non interactive video game makes more sense.
Cut scenes, random power ups, random cool down times and so much more...
For the arcane analog? That would have been Jinx. Misunderstood woman who turned to a path of evil lead by her adopted father figure who had (tried to) kill her father before it being revealed that Jinx was rather skilled, a genius, and so much more... Minus the tragic parts.
The difference of course being Jinx training, failing, working, crying, and that heart wrenching twist when you want her to reunite with her sister and become that lovely little kid Powder again, but the pain of knowing that it will end in fire and flames as her character is meant to end up as a villain.
A couple of similar notes hit... In the same way that someone with a toy piano who played twinkle twinkle little stars think they are just as good as Mozart because they both played a piano.
And that is being generous in how badly that made this garbage.
And if you compare her to her comic book abilities... The Disney formula for women is to let theme get handed success and be owed being successful.
No seriously. No training, no effort, and granted abilities by an extra source handing them powers and success as they then go off thinking they are owed whatever they think they are owed.
The male heroes train and must work to earn success. The females are granted success and complain about being owed more success.
Any wonder why most feel like villains or why people despise privileged brats being handed great power without needing to put any effort or training to earn, keep, or succeed at anything?
Almost like they are insulting women by claiming those not handed success are supposed to be worthless compared to everyone else.

Agree 100%. As a Native women myself, movies like this really get under my skin. WHY is it that EVERY native story MUST incorporate Native people seeing GHOSTS along with a MAGICAL cultural understanding?
Damn it. We aren't HOBBITS, unicorns or magical Beasts!! Why do this?
I don't know of ONE tribe who state that we actually carry on convos with DEAD people, where we see them and sit down and start shooting the shit. Don't let Hollywood warp the way you see Native people. It Doesn't exist.
Are there RARE people who claim to have this ability? Perhaps, but they aren't EVERY Indigenous person. This isn't Harry Potter where EVERYONE is given this magical ability just by being born on a Reservation or having a magical bloodline.
This was something that in the 90s was considered a HARMFUL STEREOTYPE! But hey it sells. And we're just glad to have acting roles, even if they are terrible.
However, this doesn't help the 98% of Non natives to actually UNDERSTAND indigenous people.
We are normal human beings, we respond emotionally. We have a RANGE of decernable emotions.
I literally hate 95% of what Hollywood has done with native narratives and characters, for the sake of checking off inclusion boxes.
Let's pretend that no one in America has ever come in contact with an Irish person. Your only interaction will be on screen for the entirety of your life. Would there be a need to include Leprechauns in every story line/movie script that includes an Irish person?
Does that sound right? Tolerant? Would that cause you to understand and connect to these magical people? Would it be harmful or positive?
Literally every Native centric storyline for the past 5 years has used this formula because they don't consider badly written native characters enough on their own. No, we need the supernatural, ghost or alien dues ex machina moment in every story to bail out the terrible writing.
