enjoying your videos.stayed on the east crescent last week and called into the royal for a pint and noticed the bar served haddock etc ,saw it when served to a couple sitting nearby it looked enormous .would probably make a good review.
I make no apologies for my comment but any hotel that charges for parking for paying guests deserves to go bust, no excuse for milking money out of paying guests, it’s greed that’s all it is. Thankfully you can find free overnight parking.
We always stay at any of the local self catering cottages, never any of the hotels, love our own space. Our favourite is One Over Eight on Church St and we park up anywhere within walking distance that we can leave the car ( we barely use it when we’re in Whitby or Robin Hood’s Bay)
I’m from Middlesbrough, used to love Whitby many years back and have many friends live there. Tourism on a mass scale ruined it, I prefer to visit on a rainy or bad day in winter now. Avoid all the summer chavs
The hotel definitely looks better on the inside than the out . When we walked past it recently it looked like it needed a good freshen up on the outside .😁😁👍👍
Hi Simon. My name is Michael and I recently came across your channel. I absolutely love Whitby and I think your so lucky to be living there and I love your videos about different eating establishments because it shows us what the food in Whitby is really like. Last time I was in Whitby I ate at the Magpie Cafe and it was really delicious but a little crowded lol and felt like they shove as much as they can in a small space. There is a lovely little coffee house just near to where the red bridge is in the harbour I think it’s called bean social or bean something. I loved the video your wife did if your holiday cottage let and it looks amazing
I've stayed there a few times and my view is that it's a bit in need of a bit of TLC but then a lot of sea side hotels are a bit like that. If you are going to stay in Whitby I think it's fine as long as you are only there for breakfast, evening meal and a place to sleep. I've stayed in far worse. The Lyndene in Blackpool comes to mind. A hotel when the comfort and well being of the guests is more trouble than they can be bothered with. The fact that it's quiet is probably because it is used by coach holidays a lot and they all disappear about 9-9:30 and return about 1600-1700.
We've stayed at the Royal Hotel 48 times. Yes really. Only been back once since hospitality places reopened after the COVID shut down. Shearings used to own it but they went belly up and all the staff that we knew and loved dispersed when it was closed due to COVID. It used to be our sanctuary. We've had some great times there.
Thank you for a great and honest review, I was going to stay at the royal however changed my mind when you showed the views from the back . To get a sea view they wanted another £25.00 a night I don’t think so !.
Hi mate. We stayed at The Royal a few weeks ago (April 2024). Its in need of refurbishment but £65 a night for Whitby is cheap. Thought we might bump in to you in The Green Dragon or Esk Vaults but no such luck.
hiya again, stayed there last december. The room was ok! breakfast was nice. Dinner was not so good. Lovely bar staff. Waiters rude! all in all you get what you pay for. loved sitting out the front after a few too many beers just up from the revolving door.
How strange i should mention the Royal in my comment on another of your videos. Have stayed there many times and have some absolutely wonderful memories from different years. Sadly, it has gone down hill recently though. The food is not as good as it used to be and the portions are now very small indeed. A lot of the bedrooms are in need of immediate refurbishment too. I appreciate the costs of revamping a hotel of this size are extortionate but maybe if they kept on top of the maintenance it would not have got so bad. They are my own personal opinions though.
I would have to agree, have stayed here and there are numerous places in Whitby offering far better value. If they spent money they’d make money, simple as that.
I have stayed there in the past and I liked it for the money I paid remember the place was built in 1853 I think it was so you have got problems from the word go as it no doubt has a preservation order on it. If that place was brought up to the high standard it deserves you would be paying a lot more money to stay there so it just wouldn't be viable to run so just sit back and relax the staff work very hard to make everyone welcome and I would stay there again. The biggest problem I found was the dreaded sea gulls they just never shut up but then that's all part and parcels of staying at a sea side hotel.
Went to whitby on Sunday had to pay £7 parking up at the Abbey i think it would be good for Royal Hotel to include free parking to Hotel Guests thanks for the review 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍random question would you happen to know the date for the Christmas krampus many thanks👍👍👍
Oh Lovely , let have a look. Very beautiful hotel during Tinsle & Turkey. The first part there they had the mauled wine and mince pie's in there and you can sit on the comfy sofa's. I'll be sitting in the bar area that your in 5.38 on here. Oh it use to have sofa's in there so you can sit comfy. Any take a wonder round and your find me on a sofa. I'll keep an eye out for you. 9.00pm each evening 21st Aug till 24th evening.
Hey Simon The Royal Hotel, £6 a day parking. Both, not my cup of tea☕. I prefer staying at a guesthouse on the crescent, still have great views of the piers & the east cliff. Less fussy, more homely. Your drone footage, gives your Vlogs added depth. ❤ Your Whitby reviews, Your doing a grand job 😁👍
Only just seen this go-around of the Royal, I used to spend time in there, it is quite the most pleasant atmosphere of any Whitby hostelries to while away an evening with family or friends. With wondrous high-up views of the East side, and at least 12 miles out to sea, occasionally spotting a tanker or a merchantship, slowly passing bye. Unable to visit any longer, due to unforseen physical problemss it was good to see Simons vid showing that the entire ground floor had been re-furbished. Even the snooker table with all the stitching in the green cloth where over enthusiastic players had ripped it up, appeared to have been retired. I see many coaches pass my window, all heading for the Royal, some from as far away as Cornwall, and all points in between and right up into Scotland. So it must be a well-known place to stay, and I would recommend it myself as the most pleasant I have known. Simons video showed it to be quite empty, but it does get quite busy later in the year.!
It seems it I'd catering to the more modern times. Easier to clean, etc. One of my aunts used to work there many moons ago. Beautiful building. I have not seen it since 2001. We used to live on The Railway. I now live in America but Whitby is my favourite place anywhere in the world. Lived in any places but there is no place like home.
A very informative chap full of laughter and entertainment love watching his travels and adventures in whitby.

I love Whitby go every year love trenchers fish and chips 😊

We went weekend just gone. Wasn't really busy at all. Weather was abit groggy but if anything that added to the fisherman village charm.
When the Endeavour pub was turned into a trendy gin bar I fell out with Whitby, it’s completely up itself and blooming expensive!
We go in Whitby in October when quieter. Great base for visiting North York Moors.
The hotel definitely looks better on the inside than the out . When we walked past it recently it looked like it needed a good freshen up on the outside .😁😁👍👍
It looks gorgeous in there Simon, thanks for the tour 😊❤Xxx
Thanks Simon, your video's are great, thanks for info

That revolving door was a damn hazard at the end of the nigh after a few drinks lol

A hotel park charge?
NOPE!
Hi Simon, great video, do you mind me asking what drone you were using, impressed with the result.
Hello Mate....DJI Mini 3

I'm surprised they allow filming so freely about the place.

I've been a bit wary of revolving doors ever since I saw The Godfather. 😕
Mind you you have to pay £6 an hour in Edinburgh where we are 😂
I think it looks really lovely.
and how much is 24 hours parking on street infront of hotel????????????????????? MORE !!!!
What relationship did James Cook have with Whitby?
He lived here
The hotel looks like a beautiful building that has been furnished from a charity shop.

😂 Do you get your own nurse in there
Don't like the decor or lack of decor in that hotel. Looks cheap and tatty
