As other people have commented, the room lacked artwork. A tasteful photo of the grounds or Whitby Abbey would have done the trick. I didn’t notice any local area info on the desk either. Was there any? The room lacked just a few homely touches that led it to have a slightly clinical feel. A pot of North Yorkshire Moor heather pot pourri by the bed perhaps? The pool needed a couple of palms to give it a tropical feel and some seating so you could get out and have a rest!😅
I think the room lacked a table. Maybe a coffee table or perhaps a breakfast table with two chairs. Also, perhaps some vintage photos of the Estate, or some paintings of the surrounding countryside/shore/moors for the walls.
I think what was missing in the room and pool area was some large artwork. Most places I've be to have something on the walls. I think it would have given it a cozier feel ❤
What i have learned from my own travels and now yours...that those who have a real gift of hospitality (not this one), make you feel good about being there.
Taking into account the facilities and the grounds, and the fact it is clearly an exclusive type of hotel, £200 for a double room would probably seem about right. Your room, whilst very nice, lacked atmosphere perhaps for being of a modern décor. It would have been interesting to have seen a room in the main building. Nonetheless, thanks for another very enjoyable video all of which are very much appreciated.
@@kjubajla it looks like a really nice hotel. £200 is ok I suppose if in the main building. It looked like Tim was shoved out the way. The so called balcony was really small and might as well not of bothered building it. As Tim said the room was missing something but he didn’t know what. Maybe character?
If you book in advance you get cheaper rates . Their usto be a reception in the keep we’re you stayed . The apartments you commented on are the dog friendly areas with two floors. I’ve stayed in all areas their and apartments and keep are my fav , I watch out for special offers , they make it really good deals . Whitby has become a expensive place to stay since covid sadly .
I have stayed at this hotel. It is nice but not exceptional. The trek to the annexe is a bit of a pain especially in poor weather. I think the room needs art on the walls and the pool needs a bit of greenery. Thanks for your vlogs.
It s a real pet peeve of mine, as an ex-venue operator, when places just laminate a piece of paper and stick it up with stickytak on a wall or door. You can get frames from dollar stores that can go up with 3m strips, or actually buy purpose made frames if you’re doing a whole place or need some spare for future information. It just looks so cheap to stick up a bit of paper like that!
Tim, Glad to see that they offered replacements for the feather pillows for cotton. Back in the 70s/80s I had major allergies as a kid & feather pillows were the pillows of choice in all the hotels of the time we stayed in 👀 Life is so much easier now 😂👍🏻
Ohhhh at last a nice hotel I wouldn't run away from😸😸 shame about the pillows and lack of cushions! Love the hotel. Carpet, that pool looked good, I think it was cosyness you were looking for☺️
We stayed in the main building for 3 nights 2 years ago and it was lovely I could not fault it. It was my first trip to Whitby and been back many times since.
I think its always sad when a hotel puts you in the annexe….its like staying at a romantic beachside hotel, then you get a room overlooking the kitchen and the bins..you’ve paid for what you think you are going to get then you end up with another situation..i stayed at a lovely period hotel in York once and ended up in a scruffy cheap annexe.. I think it needs a tunnel perhaps like at sainsburys in bude…to cosset your walk to the main house.
From outside, maybe the annexe is the best part of that hotel, the original hall with the castellated balcony , though ? But, it's away from the reception, restaurant and swimming pool though, yes. I don't think "thwaite" is Celtic, it's Norse. Everything is cream coloured furniture in the room. Tim is becoming a little famous in this part of Yorkshire.
I had that too, my partner booked a lovely manor house near London, the website showed pictures of it and I was really excited. There were not actual rooms in the House itself we were sent to a modern annexe next door, really disappointed
@@edenmoon8275 i had a lovely stay also at a beach side hotel in Dover…my room was above the traffic lights where all night semi’s were accelerating from a standstill..you dont get much sleep..these duff rooms should be cheaper than the others as they are clearly inferior…i think their most demanding guests get the good rooms..some sort of deal is brokered which most people are not privy to..

Very sorry but I could get 5 days in Highcliffe on Sea , Dorset with an accessible room for the same money at a Premier Inn. For £200 a night I'd be expecting a complimentary bottle (full size) of Scotch not bloody water 🤣 You said you felt there was something missing , for me it was a fridge needed for meds and at that price I would have expected one. Cheers for the vlog 👍
I really like this place. The gardens were lovely. I think staying in the out building was more private. The room lacked pictures on the walls and it needed a much bigger TV. But the whole stay was lovely to me.
Yea I see someone already commented about the lack of art in the room. That open space by door could had a coat rack or place for shoes if you had been in the garden.
I personally think £200 is a very decent price for a room that size with a balcony! It's a lovely hotel too. The only things I would change are to have artwork in the room and a wall length mirror and coat rack in that wasted space by the door. The facilities are incredible too so the price seems reasonable
Hi Tim Hope family all ok Hi to Gabby and Casper. I reckon working in hotels like I have worked when you asked what the hotel room lacking I say pictures just adds a little 😉
yeah I think is was abit souless, beautiful as it all was, definitely needed a wall hanging of some sort, even local ceramic/pottery to jazz the room up.,it didn’t flow, with reception way out of the way, would be awesome to go with group friends or get married there, ,I’d definitely stay there, yeah that bed looked soooo comfortable..so glad u got to experience it tim, thanks,😊
Lovely place but as many others have said - no soul or character. The “keep” that you stayed in was almost like a theme park example of architecture! The tiny tv in a different time zone to your bed was hilarious!
A lot of the advance rates for this hotel are cheaper and do include breakfast, I could find £144 including breakfast, the room you stayed in needed some artwork or colour to lift the room, having been in hotel management for many years I would not have any cushions in guest rooms, they are probably the most unhygienic item in the bedroom.
Stayed here twice in the last five years. First time was in the main building, which we preferred, and then in the separate part. I couldn't really fault it at the price, although that has increased considerably in the last couple of years.
We usually stay at Dunsley Hall which is in a beautiful, secluded setting. Surprisingly, they recieved a poor food hygiene rating this year so we tried Sneam Castle instead. The Castle used to be a convent and has recently been taken over by the people who owned The Stables at Crossbutts B&B. We had a very comfortable room and there are still reminders through the building of it's previous use as a convent. We had an evening meal and breakfast in the restaurant which were excellent. You should give it a go! I've looked at Raithwaites before but it seemed overpriced to me. We've spent much more than that on rooms in the past but they were much more luxurious than those rooms. They seem very basic for the price charged.
I feel the room is a little overpriced especially with it being an annexe. It's never quite the same when you have to trek over to the pool, I like to go straight down from my room in my robe 😂
The room definitely needed some pictures on the wall and the pool could have been better with some feature plants around the outside. I felt the balcony walls were to high as you couldn't enjoy the view. Needed a covered moving walkway to get to and from each building, lol.
You could have hired a clean transit van for £200.and spent the night on a pictureskue beach side road…that would have done the job also without getting a soaking..
Have stayed in one of the balcony rooms seen from the main building garden. Could not fault the hotel, room and the staff were extremely friendly. It was a treat at the time so not the kind of prices I would normally pay but there was the sense of something special.
A nice concise little video. See what you mean about the missing "something" Is it people, atmosphere, furnishings, decoration..? Still, it looked very nice, the grounds were lovely but £200 without breakfast seems a bit steep. Thanks for checking it out, Tim.
Yes as others have commented the room lacked pictures on walls & the colour was all very drab. A very off shaped room wasn’t cozy to me, id have asked to be moved. I didn’t like the tiny balcony i think it was the big wall! Looked like lots going on in hotel & i wonder what you got for the price for breakfast was it a full English with toast & jam Tim. Nice pool great to have it to yourself that would’ve been my big tick.
Looked at this a few times online and thought about going, but thought it was a bit pricey considering there's so many other great accommodation choices in Whitby for less money, which include breakfast at least. It's true the room and pool are lacking something, and I agree with others it needs some artwork to do the trick, which is easily rectified. Cushions on the bedroom sofa again would just give it a more luxury feel, but I've noticed when I've stayed away somewhere since covid, a lot of places have done away with bits like this, suppose it cuts down on extra washing. I've read on the website rooms are allocated either in the annexe or main hotel so maybe you missed that bit Tim. All in all I think I'd pick a place in Whitby itself which is more convenient for things, always thought it's a bit out on a lim where it's located, so thanks for the video to help me make up my mind!, having said that the gardens and communal parts of the hotel look lovely there's no denying that. Although maybe I'll still go for the experience, you have to try things once right?, and there's not many places with a pool in Whitby so that's a nice plus, I'd just wait for a special offer to come up, they do those sometimes!
We stayed in the "High Tor" recently and it was outstanding food excellent excellent hosts and overall v high standard good prices too have rebooked for this year too
You should go and stay the night at Kings Croft Hotel and restaurant in Pontefract. West Yorkshire. I used to work there, it's nice place. I would like to see your reaction to it.
The bed is two king singles it means that the room could also be sold as a twin. As others have said the room needs some artwork. I wouldn’t pay £200 pounds for it.
Great video Tim liked the hotel very nice and so it should be at that price £200 your room was nice but lacking pictures on the wall perhaps that would of been better the swimming pool was nice best time to go then in the evening thank you for showing us
Nice and cosy balcony. Bit odd there with a small tv when the room is big, very nice swimming pool, that is a very odd and strange looking shower there in the swimming pool.
This looks nice but I'd have to win the lottery lol..I managed to stay at a guest house for three nights in Whitby for £120, mind u that was last year 👍
Another great video. This hotel gave me a similar vibe to Stanton House Hotel just outside Swindon, on the edge of the Cotswolds. Great place if you get a chance to go ☺️
How posh for Whitby? Like the skylight, it must be great in the day and summer, 0:55. Is the card made from the forest, 2:15. Wow, look at all those plugs, 3:50. That area is missing a small table, information table, suitcase stand, coat stand, wall pictures, 6:05 one or two will be nice. The room is missing a table and two chairs to eat and drink at if you have room service or bring in your own food. Also, a table at the sofa will be nice, looks odd with the TV above the sofa, 7:45. Thank you Tim for the rating the hotel and tour.
Tim, firstly really enjoy, your reviews they are very balanced and objective re critiquing accommodation and resorts, honestly without undue negativity or harshness . How about a exploration of the best budget accommodation, with regard seasise resorts in the uk. Thanks in advance.
This was nice but the price 😬 I suppose having a lift and a private pool made up for it. I love your balcony segment I would defo have done the same. I wonder if pipes or something was behind the walls causing the odd shaped room 😮 Great video, thanks for sharing
Great vid yet again Mr Timble with the gimble, the coastal content king :) I hear u when u say about the room feeling slightly odd. I think it may be down to the fact that the sofa was facing away from the tv. I think thats a major feng shui faux pas. I would have turned it around and put it at the end of the bed. I think u would have done the same if you were there for a few days more lol. little things like that make a huge difference, im sure u agree. Looks like a lovely place though. Very tranquil. Awesome review though Tim. keep em coming Sir.
Ooh! Once I get monetised on TH-cam I might take me and my family here for the night, looks beautiful! 😮 my grandad would definitely enjoy the gardens and the nature there, I love these types of videos in Whitby by the way! ❤
What a lovely hotel. Have looked at the website too, which gives a good impression. Sadly the price is not ideal for many people. If they did some offers it might be worth a visit. Great vlog xx
the pool would look really lovely with a few indoor plants around it

Yes coffee table would be great
Hi Tim. Room and hotel plus gardens looked really lovely but the place could do with some nice paintings or pictures around the place.
agree Marie
8:30 are you blind ?!!
that place looks cozy AF. i love how eerily calm the hotel is.
The room looks like it could be used as a disabled room with the extra space by the door to help with wheelchair access or walking frame usage.
I think what was missing in the room and pool area was some large artwork. Most places I've be to have something on the walls. I think it would have given it a cozier feel ❤
A few of those tropical looking plants around the pool area would be good 😊
Tim, these vids are so chill. getting me through work. cheers pal.
Pool to yourself! Heaven! Considering the Pool, Spa and Sauna were included that is not bad value really.
What i have learned from my own travels and now yours...that those who have a real gift of hospitality (not this one), make you feel good about being there.
Thanks for sharing a great tour, looks beautiful. 😘
Love the swimming pool! 😃 But would give the place a miss, altogether not worth £200 a day.

Great vid yet again Mr Timble with the gimble, the coastal content king :)
I hear u when u say about the room feeling slightly odd. Awesome review though Tim. keep em coming Sir.
thanks very kind of you to say! I did try to watch the tv in bed but couldn't see it lol
@@WalkWithMeTim Lol. If i ever visit there Tim I will take some binoculars 😂 or maybe my projector 😅
Ooh! Once I get monetised on TH-cam I might take me and my family here for the night, looks beautiful! 😮 my grandad would definitely enjoy the gardens and the nature there, I love these types of videos in Whitby by the way! ❤
Thanks 😉
Needs pool underwater lighting..😊
Yes, something was definitely missing. Felt quite soulless 🤔
What a lovely hotel. Have looked at the website too, which gives a good impression. Sadly the price is not ideal for many people. If they did some offers it might be worth a visit. Great vlog xx
Yes bit overpriced
Overall the lighting is very subdued in the whole place giving that something's missing vibe
