I agree that's why society is so messed up. Broken homes and parents who just don't care about there kids. It does start at home. Instead of trying to help improve the quality of the schools education and the important things shes trying to police the school.
The problem is that single parents view the school administration as their child(ren)'s other parent & they demand a lot w/out being willing to put in their part. 90% of the "learning" is done at home by the parents forcing the kids to behave & study. If they aren't willing to conform society at some point will do it for them in the form of the cops.
Whilst I agree that parents should be held accountable, you must look at wider society. Material deprivation in the home is one cause of kids looking towards gangs for an instant gratification. Another reason could be a lack of a fatherly figure in the household, thus they look towards gangs as it replicates a male dominated support system. Children within the schools also feel disenfranchised with the school system, as fatalism and gangs has been so ingrained into this subculture that it seems the only viable option. I suggest that the Americans adopt a new system, that concentrates on a supportive welfare state, that tries to better the lives of those living in these materially deprived areas, and give them actually hope. As opposed to pushing this 'myth of meritocracy' that only further marginalises the poor and minorities away from this 'American Dream'.

She is no longer their principal but they still continue to fight. The entire senior class of 2017 graduated like 50 something students. They also got accepted to college. Every single one of them. Keep pushing forward. Someone like her can come and fight for you, show they care, have some love for you...but none of it will work if you do not do the Work. The schools and the families. I am a proud graduate of Fenger class of 1970. Fenger had the reputation of one of the top schools in Chicago. We also had a huge sports tradition in FB and Baseball. That 1970 year we played in the city championship in 5 sports FB,Baseball,Swimming, Golf,and Wrestling. Winning 2, Baseball and Golf. I will always be proud of my school and am pulling for it to continue to get back to it`s glory days.

I am a proud graduate of Fenger class of 1970. Fenger had the reputation of one of the top schools in Chicago. We also had a huge sports tradition in FB and Baseball. That 1970 year we played in the city championship in 5 sports FB,Baseball,Swimming, Golf,and Wrestling. Winning 2, Baseball and Golf. I will always be proud of my school and am pulling for it to continue to get back to it`s glory days.
