They're in their late 30s and have been dating for 3 years but don't live together. With 4 kids between them, is she wrong for giving him a marriage ultimatum?

I think she feels this way now because it has been so long. She probably doesn’t want to waste more time if he doesn’t want to get married.
My family member and her now husband had a similar situation and came to a compromise although they didn’t have kids. She wanted to get married, he didn’t believe in marriage. Not being married was a dealbreaker for her. He said he wanted to live together for 5 years before they got married. She agreed but said by year 5 he had to a certain day to propose or she would leave. He proposed and they are now happily married with 2 kiddos!

Honestly, I feel like if I have to give you an ultimatum after we’ve discussed that we wanted to get married, I would have to walk away.

All I know is I don’t want to marry anyone who doesn’t want to marry me. So I’d struggle with giving an ultimatum but it can work out for some people really well.

In this particular scenario they discussed the end goal would marriage I can see why an ultimatum wood be something to consider

My husband and I always knew we were going towards marriage. I asked him one day why he hadn’t proposed yet and he told me he wanted to ask my dad… I got so mad! I don’t care what my dad thinks. My father even told me my boyfriend “wasn’t the one” because he was too NICE TO ME. Very happily married now and my fathers opinion still means nothing to me
