Apple TV 4K | Why Match Content with 4K SDR is important

- This video will explain to you Apple TV 4K users , as to why ? 4K SDR format should be selected with Match Content on .In short the idea is , not to Force HDR format all the time .I also use The Matrix Film to showcase this, & why some of you. The part about match content is correct, but you do not have to set the video setting to 4k SDR. The video setting only seems to affect the setting used in the Apple TV menus. I have an LG OLED that supports Dolby Vision, and Dolby Vision content from Netflix or iTunes plays fine in Dolby Vision regardless of the Apple TV video setting (as long as Match Content is enabled).
Thomas Shaddox I’m having a different experience. My LED Samsung TV displays streaming content much better when 4K SDR is set (or HDR is not enforced)

Switch my settings, the guy you spoke with is right... I really am getting the most know. My Samsung KS9000 is forcing HDR when a HDR title is playing. And I gotta say it’s fascinating

Ok, I’m confused on why Apple TV gives you the option for 4K HDR? I think you posted a video recommend that you set it to HDR instead of SDR but I could be wrong. When I first got my Apple 4K TV I tried to get the best video quality. Also I thought if you have your match content set both to “on” it didn’t matter because it was going to match the if the video was in SDR or HDR. Thanks for your help my friend.

When I put both options of Match Content On.. every time I have something in Dolby.. it looks great but when I back out to the menu... it will go dark for 2 seconds and come back to normal.. that every time. It was annoying.

-Belkin "Dolby Vision" HDMI cable into the sound bar w/ Audioquest Cinnamon for (Arc).
Dolby Atmos works great. The problem lies in video compatibility.
-4K SDR
-YCbCr
-4:2:0 "ONLY" 4:4:4 (will not work)
-Match Content "On"×2
-Samsung UHD-Off
With these settings everything in Netflix is "Ultra HD 4k" and the pic is very poor. No more "HDR" logos.
Whereas if I turn on Q8-UHD....then the 4k Apple TV automatically
switches to (Format 4K-HDR) in Apple TV settings.
Is there anything that I'm doing incorrect? Is it okay to leave the 4k Apple TV in 4K HDR? Is 4K SDR a personal preference? It sounds like in your videos that it's imperative. I don't want to hurt my TV, soundbar, or the Apple TV.
Please advise... any help would be grateful.

Great job explaining the settings👍🏼 from what I found out from watching HDTV test is that when you watch a Dolby vision movie and don’t have a tv to display in its native format then Apple server has to decompress In HDR another thing is if a movie is mastered at 4,000 nits then Apple restricts it to 1,000 no matter what, that’s not the case when you watch it in its native format. The reason behind that is because the disc actually has a dual layer one for HDR and one for DV. You can watch hdtvtest Apple 4k vs 4k blu Ray for more info.
Why can I not get chroma 4:2:2 on my tv I can enable hdr but the ui looks so dim I have bought a very good HDMI could it be my tv Samsung 4k
I have both apple4k tv and firestick hooked up to sony 4k projector. Im using 4k hdmi cable w hdmi extenders and cat 6 cable. I played 200 hrs on each player firestick no problems but the apple tv has issues. green glitches black screen, i would say its the extender but since the firestick has no issues I think the apple tv is just a below average player for 4x the price

Great channel dude. I have an issue when I select match content Range and Frame Rate. I have the Apple 4K and the TCL 55p, when I select those features and a Dolby vision movie (resume) starts my screen goes pink. I have the Belkin HDMI I got at the Apple store.

I take issue with the recommendation to change to 4k sdr. Changing it may cause voice sync issues as it did with mine.

You need a tv that can use DV not HDR like the samsung your using.
So getting a TCL tv is getting best of both worlds. for the Dolby vision/ HDR.

Dolby or HDR it will be a little annoying because the Apple TV will keep trying to convert every thing to HDR or SDR and that cause something like flickering effect (only once when you change the contents). 50 or 60Hz depends on your country region. Hey man I have a Samsung TV as well, when u go to the inputs how are u able to lable and use the icons for your HDMI inputs, for example you have the apple logo for the apple TV mine does not do that

I have a Panasonic that after update was able to pick up icons for my atv and ps4 nothing for my xfinity box tho

I just found out that my Samsung Q60T supports both HDR10 with HDR10+ will my Apple switch between those 2
It depends on your TV capabilities , check with manufacture and model number for more info on that .

Dolby Vision is also a form of HDR. Leave the setting on SDR with Match Content on.

I do the exact opposite; I enable 4k Dolby Vision 60hz and disable match content and frame rate. Also disable motion smoothing.

From what I've read, the Apple TV will override any TV settings you have. If a movie already has HDR and you set the setting to 4K HDR or Dolby Vision, it will overdo the HDR. I had a problem where The Matrix (purchased through iTunes) looked TERRIBLE at certain moments because the Apple TV 4K was overdoing it. I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I set the TV to 4K SDR and it fixed it. Even with Match Content on though, I'm having issues with the first Matrix film. This is just what I've read and experienced. May be wrong, but it was definitely what was affecting my picture quality. Didn't have the issue with a Fire Stick 4K or the TV's smart features.

On a side note. I can’t stand that the previews of movies don’t show the quality that they can be seen.
Bobby Hz you can actually remove that, just hold the menu button for a few seconds & it will take you to a Poster Film.
All these expensive cables are BS, a $5 will do the same as a $200 cable of its not going to exceed long lengths, this is one of the biggest cons people fall for.
You don't seem to understand the tech very well, which is fine for your subs who just want to figure out how to get the "best picture" without understanding all the tech specs and what they mean.

Arnold Nathan I Do. I find with Match Frame Rate on it looks too smooth, almost like the Soap Opera Effect. That said, I’m using a 1080p SDR display, so perhaps none of this applies to me.
