    Considering this came out in 1991, it was a spot on predictor of the growing population of elderly people. I think the problem here is that if you aren't Japanese, you wouldn't understand even half of what's actually going on in this movie.

  • @wedrownysowianin9387
    @wedrownysowianin9387 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    I work often with AI and there are two things I can tell you that make Roujin Z a bit more plausible on the technical front (though I agree with you somewhat in a couple other areas). Though far from perfect, an AI can determine from a picture the age and weight of a person and from that make an educated guess of their voice. The second is that those of us who write code for a living often reuse code in ways that can be very counterintuitive to people who have never written a line of any language in there life. The library of code that determines what is being excreted from an elderly man's undercarriage could also be used to determine whether a region is facing a chemical or physical attack. This and many other things make the military application of parts of an intelligent hospital bed more plausible.

      You forgot one very important thing ai is trained over multiple cycles so already has good enuf inventory of information or real data to work with and guess from. So the moment that ai was fed with the womans face it could match multiple items in it's inventory and try each time until the voice starts to come close to the original voice.

    What's interesting is that the comedy and satire elements of Roujin Z are well within Otomo's wheelhouse, but not in his work that's easily available in English. His early short manga, many of which were compiled in the single volume Memories (which includes the Magnetic Rose story adapted in the movie Memories) are often very funny, especially Hair, Chronicle of planet Tako and That's Incredible World.

    I like this movie, not perfect but abit silly fun to watch.
    "can the computer do a simulation of her voice?"
    ...... yeah that scene could been fixed by a line and scene with
    "I need a voice or audio sample first"
    and they got her voice from the oldman's home movies or something,
    that would make more sense.

      LOL Yeah but remember this was the early 90s when we thought computers (and, if you're into comics, chemicals) would be able to do literally anything. The way I remember it, this is something we would have thought computers would be capable of within the foreseeable future.

    Even if I grow old and can't move at all, I'd hate being constrained to a bed like the one in this film. I'be already lived a mostly sedentary lifestyle and have no plans on ever returning. That is, unless I could go out with a thick blanket covering my lower half, and have it modded to play games, act as a work computer/digital art studio so I could still work, and let me exercise myself. Point being I have no plan to retire, and my hopeful future publishers, kids, grandkids and great grandkids would have to force me to do so at gunpoint. I'll work til I'm dust.

    Putting your own life and career ahead of your ailing parents isn't assholish, it's common sense. I was a caregiver for my father and stepmother before they passed, but only when I could afford to do it and had time because if I don't keep _myself_ taken care of, I can't help anyone else. A good parent would understand this and make sure their kid takes care of _themself_ before worrying about Ma and Pa.

Though the first time i realized anime was a real thing was when TBS did their late night run WAAAYYY before cartoon network. The line up was Heavy Metal ( I know not anime but its what drew me to the night) followed by Vampire Hunter D (while desperately flawed I still love it) and Robot Carnival .... They ran this exact line up several times in the early to mid 90s

      Dead Stock Paradise What your saying would be true, if we were mindless sheep who were incapable of making our own opinions. Also if you really think so lowly of Sage then why are you even here?

    • @deadstockparadise5898
      @deadstockparadise5898 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because I think his TH-cam series is cancer. Weird obscure old-school anime is some of my favorite stuff and I respect the medium of animation hugely, so seeing him monopolize discussion on these forgotten classics and criticize them with the mental capacity of a 14 year old (despite being middle aged) is extremely obnoxious.
      I don't think he's even genuinely mentally ill like Mr. Enter; he's often feigning stupidity for the sake of pointing out nonexistent 'plot holes'. He's a manipulator.

    • @thealmightytom4309
      @thealmightytom4309 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh, I get it. So instead of ignoring his channel like you so easily could do, you decided to watch his videos just to waste your own time. Have fun! P. S. He monopolizes this? There are other people out there who review old anime titles so I wouldn't say he controls the entire discussion. Sure he's got quite a bit of popularity for someone who reviews an obscure subject, but like I said earlier we aren't sheep.

    • @deadstockparadise5898
      @deadstockparadise5898 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some people deserve to have their flaws pointed out when they monopolize online consensus on old anime like this

    • @thealmightytom4309
      @thealmightytom4309 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well I see that you still don't know the difference between a monopoly and modest popularity. If Sage monopolized the consensus of old anime, as you like put it. He would have exclusive power over it, which means no one would be able to post about old anime, no one could start a forum about it, and no one else could make a video about it. He doesn't have anywhere near that kind of power, he's just a guy that quite a few people enjoy watching.
