    Tuk tuk tour,that's the go for sure,nice informative tour. As mentioned,it's not a lot of money, ( food,tours,accommodation)for us Westerners,and more importantly,helps the people/businesses in these small places . Especially during/after the impact that Covid had .

    Walked to end of island where only the Mekong separates Lao from Cambodia. Took a boat into the river and got to see the dolphins. There was not supposed to be any left. What a sight

    Nice 1 Tod and Ne Ne,
    Not sure if you saw the remains of the old steam train the the water tower the French used for transportation across two Islands
    I charted a boat to cross into Cambodia to try and see the water fall on the other side. But unfortunately was unsuccessful as I got a puncture on the bicycle that I hired. I wanted to check out the Don salat waterfall.
    Love the vlogs and all the best to you both.

    So nice that you made it to the temple on the island. I love the dragons on the staircase and the art designs. I notice that all the little shrines are where the dead are buried, like the wall at the temple back home that Neenee won't walk next to. Thank you very much Todd for going to the temple and showing me and others what we find fascinating about Asian lands. Hope you and Neenee enjoyed the ride on the way over. Peace to you both and again, a great big thanks Todd. have a good day and see you next time around. 👌👍

    Excellent video, Todd. So laid back and soon many cool houses and buildings. Loved the perspective of the drone footage at the beginning. I noticed that the roofs of this area aren't as colorful or textured as up north,, but still cool to see like that. I think my fave house was the one with the super long sidewalk made of pavers. This area of the Mekong is super interesting,,16 k wide water drop! Unbelievable! Very beautiful. I swear man,,the driver has got to be a secret king of master,,just easy going,,mellow. Seemed like he could handle anything. I'd be interested to know if he was ex military. I mentioned it to Neenee when she showed a vid of the river walls,,that everything to do with logging and timber is interesting. My Uncles and grandfather were loggers from 1938 until about 1995. And even after that a couple of my cousins owned and drove logging truck. When I was 6 years old my Grandpa showed my Dad and I a stump from a tree him and his brother fell back in the 40s that was 10 feet thru in each direction. You could still see notches they had cut to put springboards in to stand on so they could cut the tree above the swell of the tree base. I'd go logging with them in summer from the time I was 8,,most riding on dozens or trucks,,1st time I operated a bulldozer by myself,,I was 10. Was very dangerous work. One of my Uncles was nearly killed when I was 13. He was in hospital over 2 months,,then over a year recovery,,but he returned to logging even crippled up. Sorry lol ,, tangent. In Oregon and Washington they did huge log rafts of huge logs,,but that was mostly even before my Grandpa 's time. Until Neenee's vid,,I'd never seen walls used to direct to logs. Very interesting. I loved this vid. Thanks brother. Ttyl,,,Marlon

    Hi Todd
    Help me out. I have always thought that houses on stilts had something to do with the fear of flooding. Is that a total misconception regarding Laos?
    I see the houses elevated 5, 6, 7 m at Tonle Sap in Cambodia and understanding why when going thers during the raining season. But in Laos??? 🤔🤔🤔🙃🙃💛🧡❤🤠

    • @NowinLao
      @NowinLao  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most definitely, flooding would be the number 1 reason to build high in Laos. It's always flooding somewhere in the wet season. There's many other benefits to building high as many others have commented. Take the Khmu homes for example. These people mostly live high in the mountains where flooding wouldn't bother them, but still their homes are up on stilts.
